This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Specifically: Probably needs a cleanup.

The Mega Drive Rockman X3 is a bootleg port based on the PS1, Saturn and Windows versions. Despite being glitchy and missing a number of things from the original game - including the armor upgrades (you already have them from the start), Zero, two levels, some bosses, and even the ending - it's pretty faithful, especially by bootleg standards.

Options Menu

Rockman X3 Option.png

There's an unused option menu that can be enabled with the Action Replay code FF0032:0003. It seems that Gamtec had initially planned to use 6-button controller for the game, but it was removed for unknown reason.

Also presenting among the title screen graphics are unused font tiles, possibly means "Option Mode".

Omega Race and Super Ping-Pong

Rockman X3 Leftover.png

Present from 0DB600-0EF5FF are various graphics from Omega Race and Super Ping-Pong, a pair of homebrew games by Pure-Byte. The complete games are also entirely present, save for reset addresses and ROM headers; each checksum routines were also patched.

Crash Debugger

Rockman X3 Crashhandler.png

Rockman X3 features a debugger which prints error information if the game performs an illegal operation, such as trying to load a level that doesn't exist. A and C on Controller 1 cycle through different pages of memory, while Start closes the memory viewer (though doing so doesn't resume the game).

Anti-Piracy

Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Someone in BootlegGames Discord triggered the "Decode Error" message while editing the game's music. It's possible that a checksum routine was implemented to prevent the ROM being modified.

When trying to run the raw dump on an emulator, a "Decode Error" message will appear on-screen. The error can be bypassed by using the Game Genie master code AABA-AGAE.

Version Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
Take a deep look at both versions.

There's an alternate version of the game that has slight differences, mainly the stage music.

Oddities

Selecting Dr. Doppler's stage brings you to a modified version of Volt Catfish's stage. It's unknown if Doppler's stage was intended to be included in this port.
