Gameplay Oddities
Zombie Carlos' Name Oddity
To do: Is this in other versions? |
If Zombie Carlos were to called as a homie, and then attacked or used as a human shield by the player, the game will call him as just "Zombie" when disbanded.
Filename Oddities
Earlier Names
- Many of the instances of the Trail Blazing Activity, icon, and even the gameplay itself is referred to as "Human Torch". In some earlier gameplay footage, the Activity was different; the fire-infused player had to spread the fire to other pedestrians rather than ride a Toad. The graffiti graphic of the torched person used in the results screen even points to that.
- The name of Apollo's in the shop_names.xbtl folder is referred to as "Hot Coffee", which may have been an earlier name. The menu of the Apollo's Branch in the Rounds Square Shopping Center does say that though.
- The map icon for the Septic Avenger Activity is internally called "Clean Sweep", which is likely an earlier name for it.
- The cutscenes.xbtl file refer to the Heli Assault cutscenes as "Heli_For_Hire".
- The subtitle files refer to the Ultor Corporation missions as TSSE, likely standing for "Third Street Saints Epilogue", implying that the mission format was supposed to be classified as the Third Street Saints. Though, the markers containing the wiretap conversations in Revelation do use the Third Street Saints mission markers.
Removed Data
The following g.peg and peg files have content removed, leaving a single desc. file in some instances;
- tag_canadian_geom and tag_canadianpride are supposed additional Graffiti Tags to go with the Third Street Saints Tags.
- ui_act_gambling are related to the minigames at Poseidon's Palace, but are marked as button actions, suggesting that not all games were done via separate menus.
- ui_act_policeb is possibly related to the FUZZ Activity, but a blank 512x512 graphic remains in the files.
Miscellaneous Oddities
- Found within the graphics for postcards of Neighborhoods, there are three skipped entries which are ui_c_hood_bh03, ui_c_hood_ss04 and ui_c_hood_ss10.
Text Oddities
Translated Foreign-Language Dialogue
In all other languages except for the Polish, Czech, Russian, Chinese and Korean localizations of the game, the subtitles for the Ronin's spoken Japanese language during missions and cutscenes were oddly translated, unlike the previous game. Some of them don't seem accurate to what is actually spoken, suggesting they were likely translated from earlier takes or just errors. Strangely, some of the Swedish and Danish lines have quotation marks next to them, generally used in media to differentiate between subtitled languages.
Oddly, this doesn't apply to the Protagonist's Female 3 Spanish-language lines and Mr. Wong's Chinese-language lines during missions and cutscenes respectively, even in their respective versions!
On another note, the Japanese version of the game leaves the text entries blank, likely to make it easier to tell between spoken English dialogue.

Audio Oddites
Leaders of Progression?
One of the caller requests for Everybody Wants to Rule the Word by Tears for Fears on The Mix 107.77 mentions being part of the Leaders of Progression. Though might not seem interesting as of first, a gang with the same name was planned for the game. Whether this is to do actually appearing in the game, or as an obscure callback with is unknown.

Texture Oddities
To do: There's quite a bit more. |
Easel Texture
The texture for the "easel" found in Quinbecca (painting01_d.tga_0) contains a prerelease image of the original Saints Row. Though it hasn't been surfaced yet.
Newspaper Texture
Among the newspaper clippings found only in Brass Knuckles (sr2_intmubrassknuck and sr2_intdtshpbrsknckls), this particular texture (newsstack05.tga_0) contains the early protagonist design from the Bling Bling: Jackass video.
Scrapped Map Icons in Road Signs
The textures for the road signs (sr2_destsigns01.tga_0, found within sr2_alwaysload_user) contain some...peculiar textures that are likely scrapped Map Icons, as the unused shirt icon from the previous game is present in this texture sheet. The icons in particular are that of an airplane and the Ultor symbol, where the suggested use would be for the airfield at Stilwater International Airport and the Phillips building, respectively.
Album Covers
The Album Cover textures (cs_aishacd) seen in the "Music Lovers" cutscene of "Airbourne Assault" are sorta hard to make out, but they have unseen back covers with gibberish writing. The Aisha CD is in 512x512 resolution while the other CDs are in 256px, which is rather high despite being seen from a distance.
Earlier Phone Menu
The cutscene model texture found in cs_cellphone_03 for the mobile phone contains a slightly earlier menu graphic, with a different wallpaper, the time written in lowercase and the called number being positioned differently. The outlines even show a brief part of the near-final pause menu.
Texture | Menu |
---|---|
Bad Trip Newspaper Clipping
The Newspaper Clipping graphic of the Sons of Samedi mission Bad Trip contains a HUD, with an earlier minimap design.
Newspaper Graphic | Final Image |
---|---|
Early Rounds Square Exterior
The billboard for the Rounds Square Shopping Center found in the Ultor Dome (bboardtour04) uses a slightly earlier layout, lacking the Viral logo on the second floor.
Surfboard Graphic
One of the surfboards near the northern beach use an early texture of the Stilwater map from development of Saints Row.
Flight Manifest
The flight manifest that is seen at the cutscene at the beginning of Orange Threat Level is mostly seen, but there's some hidden text at the bottom-left corner:
THE CREW SR Air takes greate pride in its flight crew Rated some of the highest in history for greatness and non-greatness. All flight attendants are to be groped/harrassed at least once every flight. Failure to comply will result in immediate tossing out of the plane. Thank you foryour cooperation and we hope you have a safe flight. SR AIR CEO. Ksy Poozak
Unlockable Newspaper Clipping Text
Many of the unlockable graphics in the game comes with a hard-to-read but humorous description of the reward;
With completion of this mission. Offer valid while supplies last or until I say so. If you have a problem, oh well then tough shit! One coupon per customer, gangsta, thug or any other lowlife. Not valid with any other offer, combo, or discount. You should be lucky you got this!
The first sentence is only available in select rewards.
