Version 2.12.1

On 3 March 2023 at 04:30 UTC, Nintendo took the online servers for this game alongside Mario Kart 8 offline for emergency maintenance upon discovering that they were vulnerable to a critical exploit known as ENLBufferPwn, which enables hackers to take full, remote control of users' (unmodified) systems during online multiplayer sessions. The maintenance spanned for five months, being the longest ever server maintenance in the history of Nintendo online gaming.

This version was released as an end-of-life bug fix on 3 August 2023, patching the said exploit for online play. It was the last update to the game, as online play services for Nintendo Network have been discontinued on 8 April 2024 at 23:00 UTC.

Adjustments and fixes

  • Fixed vulnerability relating to online battles.
