This is a sub-page of Spyro: A Hero's Tail (GameCube, Xbox, PlayStation 2).

Hmmm...
To do:
Add more screenshots for the unused maps

By changing the address for Dragon Village at 2050C2E0 (on the PS2 PAL version) to any of the ones in the table below, you can access some maps used for testing purposes or maps that are just simply unfinished. In some cases, it's necessary to use an alternative Action Replay code (shown below) to access a map, in which case the value will be prefixed with an asterisk (*).

Alternative map replacement code (PAL PS2):
2050C2E0 0050FA00
2050FAE4 ????????
Replace ???????? with map value.
Map replacement code (NTSC-U, GameCube):
021FD712 0000????
Replace ???? with Map ID. Must start a new game at Dragon Village to use.

More codes and other notes can be found in LXShadow's research folder for this game here.

Value (GC) Value (PS2) Map name Descriptions Screenshots Videos
002B 0050FA00 Map_Test_beach A beach map with some testing props. It also contains an unused shark enemy which jumps out from below the water if Spyro goes too far out sea, as well as some unused flying critter enemies outside the map which were meant to be used in Cloudy Domain (according to the design documents). They are evidently unfinished, as they cannot hurt the player.

000A 0050F790 Map_Test_sj A Tiny room with even tinier hallways strewn about, which Spyro cannot fit through. It has floating platforms and a ramp in the middle. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testsj.png
0007 0050F530 Map_Test_nb An early version of an area from Dragon Village, which doesn't have the dragon egg room or the secret passage to the professor's lab. It has a few enemies in and out of bounds, and a dark shard looking object which moves in and out of the ground. Right next to this area, a giant chunk of an early version of Molten Mount can be found, with barely any objects and lava that acts like water. Further out, a testing area similar to the map "testbed" can be found with a gem thief (only seen in a Sgt. Byrd minigame in the final game), and an egg thief. Another testing area similar to "test_nb2" can be found with tons of gem containers, enemies and collectibles. And lastly, an early version of the light gem cave from the secret area of Dragonfly Falls can be found, with nothing noteworthy other than an absolute ton of bat enemies. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testnb.png

0009 0050F400 Map_Test_ka Large rooms separate from each other, with tons of interesting objects. Some of these include an intangible mammoth using an idle animation, a slippery ice platform, and an area that triggers the intro cutscene for the game, with rather glitchy results. The same unused test room can be found 13 times in Harry Potter Chamber of secret made by the same team Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testka2.png Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testka1.png
001E 0050F2D0 Map_Test_js Small map with some floating scenery. Has a few graphical issues.
001B 0050E800 Map_Test_PB A very large space with platforms and obstacles meant for Blink. It has a Moneybags hologram which repeats the same line over and over, along with an intangible Sparx sign. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testpb.png
001D 0050E6D0 Map_Test_TL A large map with an area dedicated to square caves meant for Blink. This area contains tons of enemies and objects to interact with. Outside this area, a vast amount of testing environment can be found, mostly non-solid. An object-stripped copy of the map Map_PlayRoom can also be found here. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testtl.png Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testtl2.png
0074 0050E5A0 Map_ModelViewer A very early version of the central area from Dragon Village. It has many of the game's models placed in it - some of which have early designs. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-ModelViewerMap.png Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-ModelViewerMap2.png
000E 0050E470 Map_PlayRoom Small room with a few gems littered around. A model of Hunter (from Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly) and a very early version of Spyro's model can be seen.
0043 0050DBE0 Map_MorphEnv A small area using assets from Dragon Village with a sunset scheme. There's a giant box near one end of the map. Everything is non-solid.
0058 0050DAB0 Map_Test_DP The same as Map_MorphEnv, except without the box, with actually solid surfaces and with the addition of ball-shaped object that has a rotating 3D model applied to its texture. Spryo-A-Heros-Tail-Unused-testdp.png
0008 0050D980 Map_Example A giant map of Hogwarts from Harry Potter. This map originates from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, also developed by Eurocom. A giant barrel and cauldron can be found around Hagrid's house at one end of the map.
0002 *01000002 maptest A completely non-solid map featuring a wrestling arena. The arena has the Worldwide Fund for Nature logo on it. A reference of The WWE (At the time WWF) VS. Worldwide Fund for Nature lawsuit over the rights of the name in 2002.
0014 *01000014 test_md A large platform featuring several collectibles, a very high thermal, a boiler, some grassy ground with dark slime on it, a completely unused bouncy wicker basket, several gadget pads glowing various colors (final game only has green, orange and blue), a couple containers and a Sgt. Byrd portal.
0016 *01000016 test_jp A very small map with a giant reinforced door and a few test props.
0019 *01000019 test_hn A small half-pipe shaped area using assets from Crocovile Swamp.
001A *0100001A test_mf Likely an extremely early version of Dragonfly Falls. It has a few animated textures but is otherwise completely lifeless and non-solid.
001F *0100001F test_sj2 Same thing as test_js, but with no gems or skybox, and with a floating, bouncing... round thing.
002C *0100002C testbed Testing environment with coordinate markers and staircases. It has a few cannons, enemies, gem containers and swing poles.
003D 0050ECD0 Map_Shop Same as Map_Test_sj, but without the platforms, and with gems strewn about.
007C *0100007C test_ab An early version of Blink's third minigame map. It has spinny spikey things which are never used in the final map. Perhaps the most interesting part is the entirely cut area after the monkeybar section, featuring unused moving ice blocks and some inactive snowballs.
007F *0100007F r1linkbc A very unfinished version of the first Ball Gadget level. The map name itself is interesting, as it suggests that it's a link map between Crocovile Swamp and Dragonfly falls, and no such thing exists in the final game. The visuals become less and less detailed towards the end, and the part with the Dragonfly Falls entrance is not modelled yet. Instead of a hole in the ground, the ball gadget entrance is a pipe in the wall. Out of bounds some floating grass and rock props can be found.
0130 *01000130 test_mt Similar to Map_Test_ka, but with completely different objects, and it spawns you as Blink. There are spiders with an unused attack, they spit acid instead of spiderwebs. These acid projectiles stay on the ground and can hurt the player if touched. Next to these spiders, a completely unused red worm enemy can be found, which rolls and jabs at the player instead of spitting acid. After blowing it up with a bomb, it turns into a normal blue worm. In the next room over, a gigantic hoard of all 80 of the dragon eggs can be found, which officially makes this test map the easiest method of obtaining all the unlockables.
0159 *01000159 startup Very small grass plane with nothing notable.
015D *0100015D Map_Test_nb2 Very large empty area. Being on one half of the map triggers a snowfall effect.
