I just registered here to add something to this game's page. Is there a particular format that's preferred for posting patch codes here? Raw codes (memory addresses + bytes)? PCSX2 pnach files? Something else? The "Pan Drop" roulette technique from the Japanese release wasn't really removed from the NTSC U/C and PAL releases, it's still there and fully functional and has even been translated to "Dead Pan". Four patch codes will enable it when the game is not running in Japanese mode.

I say mode because there is one variable that controls the region and language setting of the game, which normally is user adjustable only in the PAL release (from 2 for English to 6 for Spanish) but is always set to 1 in the American release. If the variable is forced to 0 in the American release on game startup, it seems to turn into a fully functional Japanese version. It even starts using the Japanese release's memory card directory/file names for game saves. If it's changed to 0 while the game is already running, most of the text will be glitchy (but Dead Pan appears in the roulette and it starts using the Japanese menu graphics, with "God Reel").

PAL release hangs in the language selection menu if the var is forced to 0 (and acts glitchy if forced to 1) so if someone wants to test that one further, the menu has to be skipped or fixed. I don't have the Japanese release handy right now, but would be interesting to see if it contains a fully functional English translation that can be accessed if the var is forced to 1...

Anyway, here's a pnach file for PCSX2 that will enable Dead Pan:

gametitle=God Hand
comment=God Hand patchcodes

// enable Dead Pan roulette tech in non-Japanese mode
patch=1,EE,201250A8,extended,00001021
patch=1,EE,201251CC,extended,00001021
patch=1,EE,20125264,extended,00002021
patch=1,EE,20125338,extended,00001821

The same codes will work for both the NTSC U/C and PAL releases. Filename is 6FB69282.pnach for NTSC U/C and DE9722A5.pnach for PAL. (What the patches do is change 4 register loads from the address that contains the region/language setting in some code that seems to be called when bringing up the roulette wheel, to always zero out the register instead)

If you want to make the NTSC U/C release run in Japanese (you'll not need the Dead Pan codes then), use this:

patch=1,EE,00747A0C,byte,00

For PAL release, the region/language setting is at 0074CD8C, but like I said you can't force it to 0 or 1 or the language selection menu doesn't work properly.

Here are the codes converted to CodeBreaker v7 and ARMax format (not tested):

I don't think there's any set policy. Broadly speaking, I think these kinds of technical details are best left to a Notes page. On the main page you would provide prose about what's different along with screenshots or videos as appropriate. Then on the Notes page, you can dig into various ways other people can actually do this for themselves. Exceptions are if it's just a short game genie code or memory tweak, where a whole Notes page would be hard to justify for e.g. just a single GG code. But at the end of the day, use your best judgment. ColdPie (talk) 10:53, 24 June 2016 (EDT)
