Cheat code details

The cheat code attempts to work as stated, and this is probably how it was given out/intended, but it's actually not coded exactly that way. 0x6c3, 0x6c4 and 0x6c5 hold button presses for A, B, Right. Once you go past the given value for a button, the other buttons in order will not change. A can always be changed. The code is considered entered if all 3 values combined with "OR" equals 0x1c. Also worth noting is the values do not reset when returning to the title screen after the demo. Other combinations work, such as:

  • Press A 28 times.
  • Press A 24 times, press B 4 times.
  • press A 8 times, press B 28 times, press A 20 times.

Assuming the second letter is a vowel (as is common for 4 letter words) we can shift the letters to try likely combinations: DA76 HEBA LIFE <----- ROLK XURQ

Presumably it is an unused "LIFE OVER" screen. They probably moved the letters around and later fixed all the "OVER" but didn't change this. I'm guessing a "LIFE OVER" screen would have been shown every time you die.
