Launch Octopus

I recall someone discovering that Launch Octopus' stage has some unused beta background tiles. - SGR

GoldS might know something about that, he's the one who pretty much found everything in this section so far. -- Rick 15:01, 9 June 2010 (EDT)

Copy Protection?

I don't know too much about this as I've simply experienced the symptoms on the ZSNES, but if you use the Blaster on any enemy and the shot is blocked, the game will immediately show the password screen and send you to the intro stage. Every time this occurs, it removes all acquired parts. It doesn't declare any stages that were beaten as unbeaten, so it should be possible to beat the game under these circumstances. I would greatly appreciate it if someone skilled in investigating these types of things can detect the exact cause of this and document any other possible effects. ZebraJCH 14:12, 27 March 2012 (EDT)

The game does have copy protection based on ROM mirroring, but I don't know most of the details. byuu's messageboard has more information buried somewhere. --BMF54123 14:21, 27 March 2012 (EDT)

Hadouken on Wolf Sigma?

> Metalman (Talk | contribs)‎ . . (9,342 bytes) (+1,526)‎ . . (Also, heard that it is possible to defeat Sigma's 2nd form with Hadouken in a version?)

Metalman, you may have heard that from me or someone like me. However, after playing around with that section of the code on all five known versions, I am less confident that my childhood memories here are correct.
Nonetheless, if hypothetically you do come across someone who still possesses a cart that exhibits such behavior, that would be immensely valuable. You can find some ongoing discussion regarding this at http://megaman.wikia.com/wiki/Talk:Sigma#Wolf_Sigma_and_the_Hadouken

Prerelease Stuff

http://kobun20.interordi.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/gamepro50.jpg

The "X" in the Life Bar was a "P".

Although it may be because it is an old photo, the opening stage seems a bit darker, with enemies with a little change in their colors.

Also it can be seen an "unused stage" which looks like a city with many white buildings, then in another photo, you can see the ship that appears in the end of the opening stage in the final version, which can means that the opening stage was intended to be divided in two sections, day and night, also it was going to be larger, OR, Vile wasn't planned to appear in the opening stage, nor the ship.

There is an unused enemy that throws fire.

Also there is a conceptual armor of X, not sure if that was the original armor or if it just was an image created by the magazine.

The day and night thing can be seen here too, so i'm not sure: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JiRJcyEB7q4/T3X0hIUo4hI/AAAAAAAAHss/zm4-hELN9yg/s1600/mmx01.jpg

The enemy that appears in the Light Capsule of Sting Chameleon stage appears here, also look the Charged Shot (it's in the center, due the bright of the background you can't see it clearly): https://i.imgur.com/lsV4L6R.jpg

A better look to the ship in what seems to be the Stage with white buildings or the Opening Stage at morning, looks different, also X have the Life Bar bigger than you normal have in the Opening Stage: https://i.imgur.com/3j3RZSo.jpg

To make it more confusing, the exact same ship appears again, but this time in that appears to be the opening stage at night. Also the background of this stage looks very different to the used in the final version: http://static.squarespace.com/static/5227cd84e4b02515a5badc7f/522e7089e4b0ae98001e1da2/522e70a7e4b0ae98001e2857/1271808305000/lostmegamanx.jpg

Can anyone see this and confirm if its ok? Also, if you can, make a Prerelease page and put all this info. I don't really know how to do that. Thanks. -- FTS 13:15, 26 April 2018 (EST)

For the most part, we don't document color or brightness differences in magazine screenshots because they always vary wildly from what you'd see on an actual TV or monitor. Even differences between shots in the same magazine are suspect, because they may have come from different sources (e.g. slides vs. photographs, or even a differently-calibrated screen). Most everything else you mentioned is valid, though. --BMF54123 (talk) 19:27, 26 April 2018 (EDT)
That's definitely Inafune's art. Can't find it online, but it's probably in the Complete Works art book. --Rabidabid (talk) 21:26, 26 April 2018 (EDT)
How you know it's Inafune's art? I don't think it's in the Complete Works, i have seen all the pages but didn't find that. FTS 20:46, 26 April 2018 (EST)

Rockman X Trailer from the Legacy Collection

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiH35lzjXTc

Many differences, slightly edited background, unused enemies, unused effect from destroying an enemy, color changes. An incomplete way to get 1 Heart Tank. Also a bunch of unused sprites, like the 1-Up, and the charged shot looking smaller and of a different color. The preceding unsigned comment was added by FTS (talk • contribs)

W Gauge

A "W" icon is present (overlayed?) in the gauges from the first three games? --Metalman (talk) 18:55, 10 August 2018 (EDT)

Yes, you can make the icon appear in the status bar in X3 by forcing an invalid weapon slot with cheat codes.Theclaw (talk) 20:40, 10 August 2018 (EDT)

Bugs Page

I have added a bugs page to this game using the table in the version differences section of the main page. I will flesh it out some more when I get the time. The preceding unsigned comment was added by SimLola661 (talk • contribs)

Back in the 1990s when I was a kid (using SNES, cartridge, no game genie), I was able to land a hadouken on Wolf Sigma's head once and damage him. This is supposed to be impossible, so I have always assumed it was a glitch. I do not know the steps needed to trigger it, I have tried hundreds upon hundreds of times since over the years to repeat it. My recollection is that only *half* Wolf Sigma's life bar was taken, rather than the full bar. I would like to confirm this observation but I do not know how to repeat the glitch. Is anyone able to recode the "block damage" flags with a PAR to test whether half damage holds true? If it does, I'll know I wasn't just seeing things and it can lead the community to find ways to trigger it reliably. Or if not, at least I'll be able to put this idea to rest. More copy protection?

On some emulators, I'm getting an issue where if something reflects a bullet, when the "dink!" sound plays, the stage is beaten and i'm sent back to the introductory stage. Is this just an emulation issue or a real protection measure? ParzivalWolfram (talk) 21:42, 23 July 2020 (UTC)

I believe that is a real protection measure. I know you can trigger the copy protection when you use ZSNES. Chibiace (talk) 03:56, 3 August 2020 (UTC)

A password that spawns after Chill Penguin stage capsule

I remember as a kid trying a random password and somehow spawning after the capsule in Chill Penguin, in an US cart on real SNES hardware; I don't remember if it was immediately or after picking Chill Penguin's stage, nor if it had the boots: Are other passwords that makes spawn at a checkpoint? Are there hardcoded passwords or bits in a decoded password that makes spawn at a checkpoint? --ViLXDRYAD (talk) 13:01, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
