Thank you so much for this! Honestly by this point I was worried I dreamt the whole thing :P . The one thing is that I recall this being in a box like the dialog boxes, as opposed to popping up in its own window, but it's been so long I don't trust myself to have all the details right. (It might also have something to do with Wine, I dunno.)
Incidentally, how did you find out about it? I'd love to know if you just stumbled across it as well or if the info was available somewhere. ShimmerFairy (talk) 16:04, 27 December 2016 (EST)
I stumbled upon it today actually, while I was looking through the small Nancy Drew subreddit. Someone mentioned a streamer discovering it, and put the command in the comments. After reading it (and trying it) I was curious about the engine, so I started poking around and discovered this site had some ND pages. I saw your mention of it, and put two and two together.
I just now noticed you created the ND pages. How do you actually open up and poke through the files? It seems really interesting to me. --AstraLee (talk) 16:19, 27 December 2016 (EST)
For the files I had to figure out their formats myself and then code converters for them. There's for example this Jul thread I made when I was stuck on the games' AVF video format. The old, old code I wrote is available here, but I really need to get to rewriting it. I've also started writing up info on the file formats in shiny web page form, in case that's more up your alley.
Note that the work I did on Blackmoor Manor was before I figured out any of this (I took screenshots of some of this game's AVF files by using symlinks to trick the game into loading them, thank you Linux), so it's not nearly as in-depth as the others. I'm currently going through the games in order, and have been really lazy about finishing my article on the third game :P .
So, to summarize, I poke through the files by figuring them out and coding little things for them, since nobody did that before me. (Well, maybe the games themselves, but you know what I mean.) If you've got more questions, I'd of course be happy to answer them! ShimmerFairy (talk) 16:41, 27 December 2016 (EST)
