BIOS Question
Are all the BIOSes the same as far as code/appearance and unused content go? If so you don't need a separate page for each. Sega Channel is different because we know from screenshots the Japanese one is completely different (and we have no idea about other regions) - Andlabs 18:45, 16 January 2013 (EST)
Startup image or model
So I wonder, is the startup image a 3D model or a flat, prerendered image? --Janjtv (talk) 06:30, 4 December 2016 (EST)
- Yeah, if you were to corrupt it, then it will turn out to be a 3D-model. The Sony Computer logo before that is probably pre-rendered/not 3D, but is from seperate images stored in the BIOS. UI Differences
Not sure if this is redundant, but there are different UIs depending on what region or model it is (US/JAP/Later EU models have a blue background with balls while the EU/PSOne Slim has tiles). Sammyrms1 (talk) 18:29, 28 April 2017 (EDT)
- I'd say that's at least noteworthy here. As for the UI, I can't find much on the PSone Slim/early EU menu. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 18:38, 28 April 2017 (EDT)
SCPH-1000 region "bug"
One interesting thing I've noticed about the original SCPH-1000 BIOS is that it completely skips the PlayStation logo animation if you run an NTSC-U/C or PAL game on it (whether by mod-chip or swap trick). That might be worth documenting somewhere. --MrLavisherMoot (talk) 17:02, 15 November 2017 (EST)
Secret savefile-undelete function?
Anyone have any idea if this is real? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aFIUAbL2cg --RavenWorks (talk) 23:44, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, that's legit, I remember doing testing after hearing things about that some years back. Though I recalled that function working differently. --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT. (talk) 22:29, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Mouse usage
Since the PS1 menu system supports mouse usage, is the icon on screen any different between those? --PSXDRIVERPLAYER OUT. (talk) 09:32, 11 December 2020 (UTC)
Random findings
BIOS version 4.0j is the only version to use kernel version CEX-7000, all later revisions use CEX-3000/100x kernel version - Martin Korth's spec page, Martin claims only CEX-7000 uses decompressing boot code, even though every version after SCPH-1000 uses decompressing boot code document SCPH-5903 video cd (model with 1024k rom)

VideoCD support
The SCPH-5903 console (which is exclusively sold in Asia) is the only version of the console to have built-in VideoCD support. KaiPixelleap7800 (talk) 01:00, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
