Akira on the Genesis was one of the many planned adaptations from THQ that ultimately never surfaced. It did make an appearance at Summer CES 1994, but the only available prototype predates the version shown there.
Pictured here is the climactic showdown between Tetsuo and Kaneda. The prototype normally freezes soon after entering the level, but it can be accessed using Action Replay codes. With this code, two players can battle it out with each other. If Tetsuo loses enough health, he mutates and cycles through some animation. If the projectiles hit Kaneda, he reverts back to normal.
