Hmmm...
To do:
  • Rip and summarise a LOT more of the music
  • Document the updated AGA version of the game

The Chaos Engine invites you to get Steamy with those Punks the Bitmap Brothers.

Unused Music

The game has a huge amount of unused music. Famously the game used a pioneering dynamic music system that switches between different variations of a theme on the fly depending on what is happening in the game, and it turns out there is a large amount of unused bars of each song still present in the game files, with only around 60-70% of each song on disk actually used in the game.

Menu Music

Track Description/Notes Play File
3 Alternative end of level introduction fanfare with descending rather than ascending notes
7 Alternate/early shop theme
8 Version of the end of level tune with the melody of the intro/title screen music played by a crude chip instrument in parts. At the 45 second mark changes into a new part not used in the final song. This particular version of the tune is repeated throughout the file
10 Abrupt jingle
11 Another very different version of the end of level tune, also used at the end of track 8
12 Celebratory jingle. Perhaps originally intended for the completion of a level?

The last few tracks of this file also include the end sequence music, but the instruments used for the speech are missing in the intended instrument pack so this part is corrupted. They are present and complete in the end game songs files below.

End Game Music

The first 15 tracks are identical to the Menu music file

Track Description/Notes Play File
18 Fast paced boss fight style track
