And you were just a scroll away from being fired too...
Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.
Such as: Gore/Nudity
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Confirm this stuff
  • upload .oggs, find changes, document, etc et al.
  • Find a way to play unused audio in-game, should be as simple as combing through the game's values using the audio IDs to find the address responsible for playing current track.
  • Some of these songs i'm digging out of the PC Engine version, are they even used?

Snatcher (Sega CD)-title.png (just to keep it from being deleted.)

Unused Audio

Test Tone

File:Snatcher Sega CD Test.ogg
Track ID: 30
A quick sustained note.

Theme of Katrina(Alternate)

Track ID: 14
Given it's placement(ID of the used song is 15), coupled with the fact that there is no music in that area normally, this was most likely supposed to play when entering Gillian's apartment while searching for Katrina.

Eternal Promise(Part 1)

File:Snatcher SCD Eternal Promise pt1.ogg
Track ID: 0C
Partially unused, only a little less than 25 seconds of this song can be heard in-game as it only plays in a single cutscene at the very end, but the whole track is much longer.

Regional Differences

While Snatcher for the SEGA CD was created solely for the western market, it is based off of Snatcher CDROMantic for the PC Engine CD/Turbo Duo. A localization of which was oddly announced for a US release mere months before the Turbo Duo died in North America. However, even accounting for a number of minor changes based on the hardware(i.e. the PC Engine having a superior color palette), it is still not a 1:1 port job.

Soundtrack

Much of the game's soundtrack was replaced or outright removed between versions, with many of the replaced tracks being remixes of songs from the original MSX release. While the Genesis FM audio sound chip may have been a part of it, that still doesn't explain why the CD Audio was also altered.

Track 20

MSX PC Engine Sega CD

(Track 20 in both CDs versions, may also be called warning.) The PC Engine version appears to be a remix of Theme of Snatcher.

Track 23

File:Snatcher PCE T23.ogg
This track, along with the CD Player warning all Turbo CD games had was removed.

PC Engine Sega CD

This unique track was replaced with 2 new songs, an FM rendition of "Good Bye Harry", and the original track Cure.

Home Sweet Home

MSX PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher MSX Home Sweet Home.ogg

Track 52 in the PC engine ver. Replaced with an original composition.

Gillian's Apartment

The music in the apartment was changed from a rather festive tune to muzak.

Theme of Jamie

Theme of Isabella

Theme of Junker

4D in PC Engine Removed entirely from the Sega CD version. It's only ever used in quite a few short scenes, for example, when you're finished interrogating the Drug Addict, or when Shun Chu Oh ambushes you in the taxi.

Blow Up Tricycle

MSX PC Engine Sega CD

Doesn't appear to be in the PC Engine sound test... Track ID: 29 in Sega CD. Replaced with an original composition.

Peace of Mind

PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE Peace of Mind.ogg

Replaced with Good Bye Harry.

Eternal Promise(Part 1)

Completely redone, now has no connection to Part 2(which was just a chip version of part 1)

General

  • Many scenes had extra shading and detail added in the Sega CD version.
  • As a result of the hardware change, certain scenes had colors changed.

Opening

PC Engine Sega CD
Hmmm...
To do:
Add the comic from the manual
* The second newspaper had a translation of the former paper added to it.
* Likely to distance itself from Terminator, the eyes of the Snatcher are recolored from red to green.
* A scene highlighting the location the game takes place in was added to the SEGA CD version.
* The opening song was altered. The first verse of the track was repeated to make room for the new scene that was added.
** The second verse, however, only differs ever so slightly. The only difference between the two appear to be an extra guitar riff.
* After the knife fight, the location changes to the top of a building in the Sega cd version, likely to tie into the next change.
* A scene was added to the Sega CD release, which was taken verbatim from a comic in the manual.
<pre>Gilian: How was work? Everything okay?
Jamie: Mmm. Gilian, what is it? What's wrong?
Gilian: Jamie, i've become a Junker.
Jamie: A Junker... Gilian, but why?
Gilian: Jamie, you know why. It's the only way we can regain our lost memories.
Snatcher is the only word that keeps coming back every time we try to remember our pasts.
I have to face them to find out why.
Jamie: Yes but i can sense that there is something terrible hidden in our past, and if we remember it, it will destroy us!
Gilian: Jamie!
[Unintelligible robotic voice] 205 [Unintelligble] WE WILL NOW PROCEED DIRECTLY TO JUNKER HEADQUARTERS
Gillian: I'm... Going now
Jamie!
Jamie: What? I can't hear you!
  • Newspaper

Rather than simply translate the newspaper that was already in the intro, a new one is added.

ACT 1 SNATCH

  • Marilyn Monroe
PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE marilyn.png Snatcher Sega CD marilyn.png

A portrait of what appears to be famous actor Marilyn Monroe was altered.

  • Room before Jean's Body
PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE Blaster.png Snatcher Sega CD Blaster.png

Jean's blaster appears to have been removed.

  • Jean Jacques' Body
PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE Jean.png Snatcher Sega CD Jean.png

The original PC engine version looks as if Jean's head was brutally twisted off from the body. Strangely, the SEGA CD redraws the whole scene to give the corpse a more posed appearance, as if the snatcher arranged the body before taking off.

  • Little John
PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE Gilian.png Snatcher Sega CD Gilian.png

Gillian's portrait was redrawn to look far less cartoonish when discovering the Time Bomb.

  • Insectors
PC Engine Sega CD

The intro to the song was altered. The sound effects used are also of higher quality thanks to the Sega CD's PCM chip.

  • Gillian's Apartment
PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE Gillian Apartment.png Snatcher Sega CD Gillian Apartment.png

A new graphic is added of the front of the apartment. While the original graphic from the PC engine version is still present, the game quickly cuts away from it .

  • Katrina

Katrina was aged up to 18 for the US version, with an older sounding voice to match. In addition, instead of her measurements, she now asks you questions related to a birthmark on her inner thigh.

PC Engine Sega CD
Snatcher PCE Katrina.png Snatcher Sega CD Katrina.png

She's also wearing more professional attire.

  • Napolean

The music that plays when calling Napolean was changed from Decadence Beat to Theme of Isabella, despite the Sega CD having both tracks.

[Plato's Cavern]

  • Outside Outer Heaven
PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE cokeless.png Snatcher Sega CD Coke.png

It's a very small detail, but the outside of the Outer Heaven building had one of the billboards changed to something that resembles the coca-cola logo.

The costumes in the Japanese version appear to be based off of horror movie characters, such as the Xenomorph. The Western version changes it to Konami characters.

[Drug Junkie]

  • Lisa
PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE Lisa.png File:Snatcher Sega CD Lisa.png

The breasts were covered up for the Sega CD version.

ACT 2 CURE

Hmmm...
To do:
There's a scene in the Sega CD version before leaving the apartment where Katrina gets weirdly flirty("Maybe if your timing had been a little better..."). Surely that HAD to have been added in right?
  • Ramen shop

The portrait of the Ramen Shop owner is slightly different. Keeping his eyes closed most of the time in the Sega CD version, save for the occasional blink, but opening them in the original.

  • Alice
PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE Alice.mp4 YouTube: bad video ID! {{{right}}}

The PC Engine version of this scene features a fully animated eviscerated dog. Complete with a pool of blood, death twitch and pulsating guts.

  • Apartment Building
PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE Alice.mp4 YouTube: bad video ID! {{{right}}}

The scene of the apartment lighting up was also redrawn.

  • Shower

Katrina's bra was removed.

The shower scene was redrawn to something less risqué.

However, despite this, it seems the breasts were then redrawn to add definition in the following scene.

  • Queens Hospital

The Japanese version forces you to type the answer in Katakana, despite it clearly being in English.

  • B E N S O N

The answer, once again, has to be inputted using Katakana, despite it still being English.

  • Face to Face

The memo you find in Harry's lab was oddly redrawn. Changing from a memo on a post-it note to a scrap of paper.

  • Sabotaged Turbocycle

The scene after the Turbocycle plummets to the ground was completely changed from Gilian comically running on the freeway to awkwardly holding onto the bike. Despite this, the voice acting appears to be the same, with Metal Gear saying "...and you could probably use the exercise anyway".

  • Basement of Queens Hospital

Once again the Snatchers were made to look less like an naked Terminator, however this time the change appears to be more intricate than before.

After killing it, a small scene was added of Random congratulating the player.

  • Airducts

Another comedic scene is removed. When Metal Gear turns on the light, Gilian is in a goofier position in the PC Engine.

  • Bathroom

A graphic was removed next to the ladder.

  • Wounded Mika

Mika's eyes were animated in the Sega CD version. Additionally the room transition sound effect was changed.

  • Harry's body

When the emergency lighting has been activated, the hallway where you find harry's body had it's palette altered to match the rest of HQ.

  • Showdown with Benson

The handcuffs on mika were redrawn. Metal Gear has also been redone. Benson's tie was also changed. When the scene transitions to Mika mourning over Harry's body, the palette has one again been changed to account for the emergency lighting.

ACT 3 JUNK

Hmmm...
To do:
The Sega CD version warns you that saving is impossible, despite this part of the game being impossible to lose in the PC Engine version...
  • Opening

Since AD 2042 isn't in the game, an entirely new track was composed called Cure (Track ID: 04). When Metal tells Gillian he's been missing for 40 years, another new track is used in place of Theme of Random, called Amnesia (Track ID:13)

  • Heading to Church

Because Theme of Junker was removed, part of the scene simply doesn't play any music.

  • Inside Church

Interestingly, instead of using Criminal Omen, a new track was composed for this part of the game, simply titled "Church" (Track ID:26).

Additionally, the portrait on the high wall in the back was drastically changed. From an asian looking person to a more regal looking version of Random.

The most baffling change of all happens when Gillian asks Metal Gear to delay the summit. The music is changed from Eternal Promise(Part 2) to this ill fitting smooth jazz-esque song, which changes the scene completely.

  • Insectors

320px 320px Before the final room, 2 new shooting levels were added to the Sega CD version. The first features a new enemy similar in design to the insectors but much larger, colored green and can fake out the player, the second is another round with Snatchers.

  • Final room

Finally, the final room adds a very short shooting section, intended to fake out the player.

  • Modnar's speech

Multiple new shots were added to the Sega CD version:

An angle shot of Modnar was added

another of Gilian and Jamie from Modnar's perspective was added.

  • Metal Gear
PC Engine Sega CD
File:Snatcher PCE Metal Gear.png File:Snatcher Sega CD Metal Gear.png

Naturally, it was changed from the original Turbo Duo model to a Sega CD.
