From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Help:Contents/Editing Help.

Hmmm...
To do:
add descriptions where needed and elaborate on the less detailed ones.

You can add a variety of tags to articles in order to alert readers about things that need to be done.

Modifying Tags

Adding Text

To add text to any tag, add |xxx after the tag name, replacing xxx with the text you wish to write.

Code: {{todo|Write text here.}}
Hmmm...
To do:
Write text here.

Adding Links

To add a link to tag text, add |1=xxx after the tag name, replacing xxx with the link(s) you wish to add. (You can learn how to format links at the appropriate Help section.)

Example: {{todo|1=[http://www.example.com This is an outside link.] [http://tcrf.net This is another outside link.] [[:The_Cutting_Room_Floor|This is an internal link.]]}}
Hmmm...
To do:
This is an outside link. This is another outside link. This is an internal link.

Choosing Tags

Add Audio

code: {{needsaudio}}
...
This page or section needs more audio.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough audio. Please fix this.

Add Images

Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words. Use this tag to mark articles that could benefit from a few visual aids here and there (e.g. pictures of unused content).

Code: {{needsimages}}
Careful, you'll lose an eye.
This page or section needs more images.
There's a whole lotta words here, but not enough pictures. Please fix this.

Add Videos

code: {{needsvideo}}
BZZZRRRRRRTTTT
This page or section needs more videos.
There's a whole lotta words or pictures here, but not enough videos. Please fix this.

Defunct Game

Used for the games that time forgot.

code: {{Defunct Game}}
See, this is why game preservation is important.
This game is defunct.
Do note the game no longer works at all without modifications. This is most likely due to the game's servers being shut down. As a result, further official developments with the game are unlikely to happen.

Defunct Online

Used for the servers that time forgot.

code: {{Defunct Online}}
See, this is why server preservation is important.
This game/console's online features are no longer supported.
While this game/console's online features were once accessible, they are no longer officially supported and online-exclusive features may be documented as now-unseen content.

Delete

Used to mark unneeded articles and files for deletion.

  • Do not apply this to spam pages! If you find one that our administrators missed, send them a message via their Talk page (or better yet, the IRC channel).
Code: {{delete|Describe why you think this article or file should be deleted.}}
Cacti removal is best done with gloves. Very thick gloves.
This page or file is awaiting consideration for deletion.
Please make sure it is not linked anywhere before deleting it!
Reason for deletion request: Describe why you think this article should be deleted.

Elaborate

Here at TCRF, we're suckers for detail. Slapping "use [code] to activate the game's debug menu" in an article just ain't gonna cut the mustard. How do you navigate the menu? What do the options do? Elaborate!

Code: {{elaborate|Describe what needs elaboration.}}
Acactussayswhat?
Please elaborate.
Having more detail is always a good thing.
Specifically: Describe what needs elaboration.

Epilepsy Warning

This is used to hide content that may induce seizures.

Expansions

code: {{expansions}}
Spend $40, get newer experience!
This game is receiving new content, by way of Expansion Packs and/or Downloadable Content.
Be aware that any unused content you find may become used in the future. If this does happen, please specify as such!

Improve

Use with caution! This should only be applied to really embarrassing, badly-written articles that show no signs of improving. It should not be considered a replacement for {{stub}} or {{start}}.

Code: {{sucks|Describe why it sucks.}}
SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH
This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Specifically: Describe why it sucks.

Investigate

Used to identify things that are quite obviously present in a game, but need a little more coaxing before they'll reveal their secrets. For example, if you've found text and code for a complete debug menu, but can't figure out how to actually make it appear in-game, put this tag in the game's article along with your findings.

Code: {{investigate|Describe what needs to be investigated.}}
Elementary, my dear Cactus.
This needs some investigation.
Discuss ideas and findings on the talk page.
Specifically: Describe what needs to be investigated.

Leak

Used for pages that discuss leaked content.

code: {{leak}}
How about a nice leek in this trying time?
This page or section details content from a leak.

Long

Code: {{long}}
Hmmm...
This page is loooong...
Consider grouping related content into additional subpages to ease readability.

New Article

Code: {{start}}
Cactus 2.0!
This article has just been started and needs the article basics added.
Help us out and add them.

NSFW

On TCRF, anything that goes unused in a game can be posted here and we do mean ANYTHING. If you wouldn't want to be caught looking at a particular article at work or in a public setting for fear of embarrassment, add this tag to a page to warn others.

  • It is not necessary to add this tag to articles that contain bad language, unless it is of a HIGHLY vulgar or offensive nature.
Code: {{nsfw|Describe what makes this article NSFW.}}
And you were just a scroll away from being fired too...
Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.
Such as: Describe what makes this article NSFW.

NSFL

This tag is used for EXTREMELY vulgar, offensive, or psychologically-damaging content. Use this for things that are more disturbing than what NSFW can cover.

Code: {{nsfl|Describe what makes this article NSFL.}}
And you were just a scroll away from scaring everyone shitless, being fired, and possibly being arrested too...
Oh wow. Sometimes, you have no idea how morbid the things in these pages can be.
This page contains content that is not safe for life, whether it be you or anyone in proximity to you.
Such as: Describe what makes this article NSFL.

Proofread

Just what it says on the tin. If you've got some translated text that needs to be proofread, use this tag.

Code: {{needsproofread}}
Cacti may speak Japanese, but do they speak it well?
...But does it make sense?
The translations on this page need to be proofread. If you are fluent enough in this language, please make any corrections necessary!

Rename File

Code: {{renamefile}}
Mushroom.png...?
This file does not follow the file naming guidelines and needs to be renamed.
Links will need to be adjusted.

Replace File

Code: {{replacefile}}
A low-quality cactus is a sad cactus.
This file needs to be replaced.
Please read the guidelines for more information.

Replace Image

Code: {{replaceimage}}
A low-quality cactus is a sad cactus.
This image needs to be replaced.
Please read the image guidelines for more information.

Start

Exactly what it says. Use this tag for articles that have been recently been started and need the bare minimum added.

code: {{start}}
Cactus 2.0!
This article has just been started and needs the article basics added.
Help us out and add them.

Stub

Code: {{stub}}
So very stubbly.
This page is rather stubbly and could use some expansion.
Are you a bad enough dude to rescue this article?

To Do

Code: {{todo|Describe what needs to be done.}}
Hmmm...
To do:
Describe what needs to be done.

Translate

Just what it says on the tin. If you've got some unused text that needs to be translated into English, use this tag.

Code: {{needstranslation}}
Cacti speak Japanese.
...But what does it mean?
This game has text or audio that needs to be translated. If you are fluent with this language, please read our translation guidelines and then submit a translation!

Under Active Development

code: {{Game in development}}
<Sanky> please suggest an unused sprite with a clock or something
This game is still under active development.
Be aware that any unused content you find may become used or removed in the future. Please only add things to the article that are unlikely to ever be used, or went unused for some time. If they do get used, please remove them from the page and specify in the edit summary!

Unreleased

For games that never saw the light of Gamestop.

code: {{unreleased}}
This game was stuffed away in a cardboard box and found 30 years later in a garage
This game was never completed and/or given a public release.
As a result of this, keep in mind that the developers might have used or deleted some of the content featured here, had the game actually been released.

Update

Used to mark old articles that were created before many of the current rules and guidelines were put in place. These articles may be oddly formatted, use inconsistent/outdated terminology, or contain media (e.g. images) that doesn't meet our strict quality guidelines.

Code: {{needsupdate}}
It's an old cactus!
This page is showing its age.
Please update this page to fit our current standards!

Work in Progress

This tag shows that someone is still actively working on an article. However, it does not prevent others from contributing. Anyone is free to edit articles on TCRF, even if they are still under construction.

Code: {{WIP}}
This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.

YouTube Video Gone

This tag is used when a YouTube video has been deleted or can no longer be viewed, asking for a replacement video to be added instead.

Code: {{YTVideoGone}}
Remember when YT had a little indifferent face when a video went down? TCRF remembers.
This page or section has one or more broken YouTube links.
Please find an archived version of the video(s) or a suitable replacement.
