Alright poindexters see how it's done:

This is crap for the Digital_Devil_Story:_Megami_Tensei_II page.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • there is a possibly unused Save Point, but there is no way to tell where it is used (if anywhere)
  • rare monster spawns
  • monster drops
  • mapping all the flags
  • other unused "event" monster anims like Lucifer
  • insignificant crap like the small unused filler areas in the various allocated maze spaces
  • various odds and ends I still need to do

Unused Enemies

Unused Overworld Tile Effects

The effect can be seen by entering the Game Genie code NYEIKUAE (walk through walls on all overworld scenes) and from a Makai Town, walk to a Tokyo prefecture and into a center tile on a skyscraper. You'll be transported to an illegal overworld, which is necessary to see this tile effect. When walking some of your party members will eventually fall asleep; this coding appears incomplete as it will always report the status of the last monster on the character list (enabled or not) falling asleep, regardless of who actually falls asleep.

The effect was probably going to be used for the field of flowers in the "Forest of Confusion" area in Makai, which has flowers that put your group to sleep in a cutscene.

Text Translation
アクマは ねむってしまった (Demon) fell asleep.

Unused Events

Unused Astaroth Bridge Event

holy shit i can see it!

Normally you cannot actually even reach the bridge leading to Astaroth's castle without encountering the event that puts the party to sleep. At which point, the bridge is extended to the castle and you may enter. However, entering the Game Genie code NYEIKUAE and walking directly on the bridge reveals that this bridge has it's own set of pre-sleep dialogue!

The dialogue reads as follows: "That is Astaroth's Crystal Palace."

USED if either human character is dead when you reach this point, the sleep scene will fail and you can continue to the bridge.

Other Unused Events

  • There is a duplicate of the used "Bar Lupin" sign. In a maze, freeze RAM address 0402 to 05; value 0A is the used one.
  • Values 2E and 38 for maze events appear surrounded by legitimate events, but they themselves do nothing and don't appear to check any game flags.

Unused Graphics

Being the first "proper" game in the overarching MegaTen franchise, the game has a large amount of unused graphics.

Disregard this unused graphic section because this entire fucking thing is years old and I don't even remember how wrong half of it is and I'm still working on it shut up

Unused Font Tiles

I'll probably be yelled at if I try to add this. TODO: should probably re-investigate anyway

Mystery graphic

[[file:dds2_unknown1.png|this is an arm, drawn by nobody. it is worth nothing.]]

Then there's this thing and considering it's an 8x8 sprite and sometimes parts of other sprites inexplicably end up in other banks I probably won't be using this thing in the final article.

Mesian Woman's Wall Decor

hail messiah Appearing with the aforementioned Mesian woman is this odd wall graphic. Probably won't use this, either because listing it twice is pointless.

USED: part of moura Weird ripple graphics??? (not sure what this sentence even means anymore, it dates back to prehistoric drafts of this page from 2012 or so; Moura cutscene graphics are in another unrelated bank, and Moura overworld sprites are in another unrelated bank, and none of them have anything to do with the unused Tokyo town overworld sprites)

Explosion

[[file:dds2_explosion.png|kablammo]] This is possibly used? Appears in data associated with minigames. There are actually no animated explosions in the final game. USED this is the explosion graphic used when the Royal Castle is revealed at Ground Zero.

Unused Duplicate Sprite Data

Uninteresting stuff:

  • There is a duplicate of the star of david used in Ueno in the sprite set used for the player, alongside the (used) icon used to depict the pillar area in the big crater.
  • There is a duplicate of the Devil Busters up stair in the Makai overworld battle tileset.
