Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 survival horror game where you either work with other survivors to power a number of randomly located generators, or play as a deadly killer to hunt down and pick off a group of terrified survivors. Just think of it like a more lethal version of hide and seek, where the prize for winning is keeping your life! Or taking a few...
You can play as some familiar horror movie characters, such as Michael Myers, Laurie Strode, Freddy Krueger, Detective David Tapp, Leatherface, and more. Even Bill from Left 4 Dead makes a surprise appearance.

Contents
Unused Characters
Characters that were either referenced in the code, or scrapped during development.
The Smasher
An early killer prototype that would have had the ability to destroy obstacles within a level, hence its name. Was scrapped early in development due to the difficulty that would have come from trying to balance a character who could effectively "delete" all stage elements.
The Teacher
Following the addition of several files and items into the game themed around schooling, speculation of a killer based off of a teacher arose. Nothing is known about how the Teacher would have played, aside from the killer most likely having a power named "Detention", most likely using a ruler with a blade attached to it as their weapon, and having a perk named "Underperform".
It is thought that the Teacher's existence was possibly a hoax created by developers to fool dataminers and fuel community speculation, and that the Teacher may never have existed in the first place.
Unused Killer Power
A killer power named "Detention" that would have most likely belonged to the Teacher killer. It's unknown what its abilities are.
Unused Mode
A mode named "Quickplay" was previously available for play in the game. In Quickplay, players would either join or create a ranked lobby as either a survivor or a killer respectively, based on whichever option was faster. Due to unpopularity with players and general disuse, it was removed from the game.
Unused Maps
Some realms have maps that are listed in the game files, but are unused.
MacMillan Estate
- Mini
- Seb's Dream
Crotus Penn Asylum
- Infinite Gym
Backwater Swamp
- Dead Lake
- Grim Gully
Unused Unlockables
Unlockables that would have been earned through the in-game bloodweb.
Unused Perks
Perks that are found in the game files, but remain unused.
Unused Items
Items that are found in the game files, but remain unused.
Unused Add-ons
Add-ons that are either unused or were replaced in an update and became unused.
Unused Offerings
Offerings that were removed from the in-game bloodweb and became effectively unused.
Unused Status Effect
An unused proficiency indicator named "Skills" with an unknown effect. Its icon is simply a hand.
Early Filenames
Some files in the game still refer to certain things by the early names they went by during development.
Early Character Names
The files commonly refer to killers as Slashers and survivors as Campers. This is most likely because of killers being inspired by old slasher films and survivors sitting around a campfire between trials respectively.
Killers were often referred to by different names during their development. This is reflected in the files as well, with some killers having multiple names:
Final | Early |
---|---|
The Trapper | Chuckles |
The Wraith | Banshee Bob |
The Hillbilly | Crooked |

The Hag | Witch |
The Doctor | Mu Yi |

Early Realm & Map Names
Early names for realms and their maps. Following the addition of the Springwood realm with the "A Nightmare on Elm Street™" DLC, realms are referred to by seemingly random countries corresponding to the letters of the alphabet in A-Z order (England for E, Finland for F, Haiti for H, etc.):

The Pig's Hidden Face
Although a good number of killers in the game wear masks, a few of them do however have modeled faces under their masks, the Trapper and the Huntress being good examples. A rather odd example though would be the Pig killer, who also has a fully modeled face underneath her pig head mask. It can never be seen in-game as the pig head is never removed under any circumstances, but it can be viewed with a model viewer or reportedly by simply clipping the camera into the Pig's head.
