Developers: Behaviour Interactive This game has unused areas. |
This game is still under active development. Be aware that any unused content you find may become used or removed in the future. Please only add things to the article that are unlikely to ever be used, or went unused for some time. If they do get used, please remove them from the page and specify in the edit summary! |
Dead by Daylight is a 4v1 survival horror game where you either work with other survivors to power a number of randomly located generators, or play as a deadly killer to hunt down and pick off a group of terrified survivors. Just think of it like a more lethal version of hide and seek, where the prize for winning is keeping your life! Or taking a few...
You can play as some familiar horror movie characters, such as Chucky, Laurie Strode, Freddy Krueger, Detective David Tapp, Leatherface, Pinhead, The Xenomorph, Nicholas Cage and more. Even Bill from Left 4 Dead makes a surprise appearance.

Unused Characters
Characters that were either referenced in the code, or scrapped during development.
The Smasher
A killer cut extremely early into the game's development cycle that would have had the ability to, as their name suggests, destroy parts of the level. Was scrapped due to the difficulty that would have come from trying to balance a character who could effectively "delete" all stage elements. During one of Behaviour's developer streams, they also mentioned this killer being able to counter survivors climbing parts of the level (another cut feature) by simply knocking the platform out from under them.
The Teacher
Three teacher-themed graphics (listed below in their respective categories) were added to the game on July 2016, shortly before the game's first DLC, "The Last Breath Chapter". This caused many people to speculate that a teacher killer would be added to the game in the near future. Ultimately, The Nurse was added to the game instead, and the files have yet to be used for any character.
It is thought that the Teacher's existence could have been a hoax created by the developers to fool dataminers and fuel community speculation, and that the Teacher never existed in the first place.
Unused Killer Power
A killer power named "Detention" that would have most likely belonged to the Teacher killer. It's unknown what its abilities would have been, if it had any.
Unused Mode
A Quick Play mode was available early in the game's life. In Quick Play, players would either join or create a ranked lobby as either a survivor or a killer respectively, based on whichever option was faster. You could not queue with friends or communicate with other players, and your rank was based on the amount of bloodpoints you earned in the match. Due to unpopularity with players and general disuse, it was removed from the game in patch 1.5.0 (April 27, 2017).
Unused Maps
Some realms have maps that are listed in the game files, but are unused.
MacMillan Estate
- Mini
- Seb's Dream
Crotus Penn Asylum
- Infinite Gym
Backwater Swamp
- Dead Lake
- Grim Gully
Unused Unlockables
Unlockables that would have been earned through the in-game bloodweb. Many of these were once available in-game, but have since been patched out.
Unused Perks
Perks that are found in the game files, but remain unused.
Unused Unlicensed Perk Icons
Unlicensed icons for the Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street chapter perks exist in the files. Before going unused, they were previously used on console versions as General Perks since license chapters came out at a later date then on PC.
Perk Name | Licensed Icon | Unlicensed Icon |
---|---|---|
Sole Survivor | ||
Save the Best for Last | ||
Vigil | ||
Fire Up | ||
Remember Me |
Unused Items
Items that are found in the game files, but remain unused.
Unused Add-ons
Add-ons that are either unused or were replaced in an update and became unused.
Unused Offerings
To do: The common/uncommon realm offerings were retired in Patch 6.1.0, so they can be added here. |
Offerings that were removed from the in-game bloodweb and became effectively unused.
Unused Status Effect
An unused proficiency indicator named "Skills" with an unknown effect. Its icon is simply a hand.
Unused Loadout Categories
Perks
Listed within the files are graphics for what's known internally as "Loadout Categories". This first set would likely be used to categorize perks.
Adaptation | Chasing | Concealment | Cruelty |
Enhancement | Hinderance | Navigation | Obstruction |
Perception | Safeguard | Strategy | Support |
Tracking | Trickery |
Offerings
Like the above, these would likely be used to categorize offerings.
Bonus Bloodpoints | Luck | Map Modifications | Memento Moris |
Realms | Shrouds | Wards | XP |
Notably, an icon for XP offerings exists, despite the fact that XP offerings only exist on Dead by Daylight Mobile.
Unused Strings
Placeholder / Internal Strings
"@#this text is placeholder dont worry i will delete it", "@#{H} Auto-Repaired from Sabotage" - Debug Text for when Hooks are automatically repaired after Sabotage
Early Character Names
The files commonly refer to killers as Slashers and survivors as Campers. This is most likely because of killers being inspired by old slasher films and survivors sitting around a campfire between trials respectively.

The Pig's Hidden Face
To do: Change this to a general "Hidden Details" section for killers and survivors? Needs a update since she now has cosmetics that show her face partially with the Amanda's Rebirth outfit. |
While roughly a third of the killers wear masks, a few of them do have fully modeled faces under their masks, such as the Trapper and the Huntress. A rather odd example though would be the Pig killer, who has a fully modeled face underneath her pig head mask. It can never be seen in-game as the pig head covers her face entirely and is never removed, but it can be viewed with a model viewer or by simply clipping the camera into the Pig's head.
