To put it bluntly, 2016 was a pretty crappy year unless you were a Chicago Cubs fan, what with all the celebrity deaths, political drama, mass fandom abuse and gorilla homicide. A few good games do come out of it though, like genre-defining Hero-shooter Overwatch, IO Interactive's return to release the literal Murder Simulator HITMAN™, as well as the various Pokémon titles that are released over the course of the year, celebrating the franchise's 20th anniversary. One game that ambitiously spent years in development, The Last Guardian, is finally released. Sony released the PlayStation 4 Pro, beginning the trend of mid-gen refreshes of consoles, promising higher quality graphics, 4K resolution and faster framerates. After 10 months of tear-jerkingly tedious waiting, the Nintendo NX is finally unveiled in mid-October as the soon-to-release Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo fans everywhere collectively sigh in relief. Also, Outfit7's games reach 5 billion downloads as a whole, making them one of the most profitable companies for iOS/Android systems. Neat.
