Pac-Man and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial are released for the Atari 2600, which have become some of the most maligned games ever and are considered part of the cause for the 1983 video game crash. A slew of consoles were also released in North America, further saturating an already crowding video game market. Ms. Pac-Man is released in arcades by Midway, but without the approval of Namco. The NEC PC-98, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum all become very successful on the computer side.
