Cut-Off Graphics

Seen Unseen
F1PP2 Podium.png F1PP2 Podium No BG.png

Due to the way driver sprites are placed for the second and third position podium drivers in the post-race scene in the World Grand Prix mode, 17 pixels of these sprites are never seen (counted from the second position podium). The trophy-holding winner position does not have cut-off portions.

An example is shown above.

The Japanese version's publishing credit is in one, high-resolution part (512x448), while the English version is two parts (for the Licensed by Nintendo credit), and in standard resolution.

Graphical Differences

Most of the graphical edits in European version are done to remove tobacco (mostly already-censored) and alcohol sponsorship references from the game.

Podium Win Sprites

Hmmm...
To do:
Any other drivers got redraws for the podium screen?

In addition to tobacco/alcohol sponsor removal from their firesuits, some drivers had their faces redrawn. The trophy is also redrawn.

Edit Mode

In the Japanese version's "Files" menu, the current driver and engine roster on each save slot are displayed. The European version removes this, instead telling the player which save slot is empty if there is one.

In the Japanese version, custom drivers (built-in or user-created) replace the original driver in the driver list row of the "Entry Member Edit" screen and retain the original driver's car number. In the European version however, the replaced driver is marked with orange in the aforementioned screen, and the original driver's car number is also removed.

Additionally, when selecting an assignable driver before they are placed into one of the existing slots, their original car number is also displayed (3 for Satoru Nakajima, 5 for Nigel Mansell, and ?? for created drivers) in the Japanese version.

Driver/Opponent Selection

The European version adds a divider in the driver/player select screen and removes the nationality and birth date labels, as well as the car's chassis name, moving the car number there. Again, the car number is also removed if a free agent (Nakajima/Mansell) or custom driver is present.
