Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn (Windows)/Unused Text

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Final Fantasy XIV Online: A Realm Reborn (Windows).

Cacti speak Japanese.
...But what does it mean?
This game has text or audio that needs to be translated. If you are fluent with this language, please read our translation guidelines and then submit a translation!

Simplified Chinese

In addon.exh, there is a single entry for a Simplified Chinese language option; however, since there is no Chinese text translated at all in the files, it's entirely unused.

Blacksmith and Miner

Blacksmithing 不要:新生ではキャラメイクで選択できるのは戦闘職のみ。
Miner 不要:新生ではキャラメイクで選択できるのは戦闘職のみ。

In lobby.exh, there's references that hint that it might have been possible to create a character starting with a non-combat class at one time, like in the ill-fated 1.0 version of the game. Near the combat classes and their respective description are Blacksmithing and Miner, with untranslated descriptions.

Unused Triple Triad Type

×不滅隊(不使用)

In tripletriadcardtype.exh, there is an entry for The Immortal Flames, untranslated, with a note stating it's unused.

Deleted F.A.T.E. Leftovers

These are leftover descriptions from two now deleted FATEs.

Internet Cafés are a big thing in Japan, but not so much in English speaking countries. In Japan, the game is free to play at an internet café (with certain restrictions, of course). However, this isn't the case in other countries, meaning this did not have to be translated into English (or French and German, for that matter).

FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn has not yet been registered with this service account. To play the game, you must first complete the registration process using the registration code included with your purchase. Early Access players also must register after August 30, 2013. These errors were likely shown around the time of the game's release. While the same error still shows today, the reference to the Early Access has been removed.

Items in less than mint condition cannot be put up for sale.

This is an impossible error to see; damaged items become bound to that character and cannot be traded, let alone sold on the market board.

Unable to execute emote. You are no longer a member of the corresponding Grand Company.

Another impossible error, as /gcsalute covers the Grand Company you are currently part of. There is no emote command for separate Grand Companies.

Unable to execute command because reasons.
Unable to execute command due to some unforeseeable error.

Presumably used when something inexplicable happens.

Underclothes cannot be unequipped.

Leftover from 1.0, when underwear actually had to be equipped! The models still exist, and can be purchased in cities, but they are no longer required to be equipped at all times, merely acting as level 1 glamourable gear.

You've been too greedy and needy for one day.
Unable to craft. Big Brother thinks it is time for a break.
You've played more than you should. It's time you got some vitamin D.
You cannot enter the Binding Coil at the moment. Perhaps it is time for a break.

Potentially related to the fatigue system outlined below.

Dialogue

Talan

Unused Used
Don't know you, don't care to. Git, 'fore I blast ye in the arse with rock salt! Don't know ye, don't care to. Best be on yer way, 'fore me hammer finds yer backside.
Unused Used
Hm, Guiding Star thinks yer goody-nuff? You're ready for some gatherin', I hope, or we all three goin' to be sorry... Hm, Guiding Star thinks yer good enough? I hope he's right, or we're all goin' to be sorry...

Dialogue for Talan before and after completing the quest Just Tooling Around. Found in reglakmastercrafter_00160.exh, it's placeholder text in the Japanese, French, and German files.

Tataroga

Unused Used
I'm a personal assistant of Master Wiscard hisself. Who're you? You don't know the big man? Then, all the 'stounding wares I have─you don't know these either. Farewell! I'm a personal assistant of Master Wiscard hisself. Don't know the big man? Then, all the 'stounding wares I have--you don't know those either. Farewell!
Unused Used
You know Master Wiscard? Why didn't you say so! Come on in, you'll find something in here for you! You know Master Wiscard? Why didn't you say so! What can I get you?

Dialogue for Tataroga before and after completing the quest Submission Impossible. It's found in reglakmastercrafter_00161.exh and, like Talan's dialogue, is placeholder text in the other language files.

Areas

Limsa Lominsa

リムサ・ロミンサ会議部屋 リムサ・ロミンサ演説部屋

The Limsa Lominsa conference room and speech room are only ever encountered in cutscenes, but are actually registered as subzones in placename.exh. Since the player doesn't have control over their character during cutscenes, the subzone names are unseen. While untranslated in the English and French files, it's translated in the German files.

Binding Coil of Bahamut

The ragnarok Hexalift Ragnarok outer hull outer hold inner hold engine room compression chamber propellant chamber

These names show up in the area title texts, and refer to the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid. However, none of them appear in the raid at all.

Seventh Gate of Hell

Hmmm...
To do:
Find a way to view or enter (if possible), document and move to main page.

Referenced in completejournal.exh, contentdescription.exh, and instancecontent.exh is an apparent dungeon named the Seventh Gate of Hell. Judging by the Japanese, French, and German names for the dungeon (入室テスト用ダミーコンテンツ [Dummy Content for Room Entry Test], Test, and Test-Inhalt, respectively), it's likely a room used for testing.

Hints to Unused Features

Fatigue System

Hmmm...
To do:
This feature goes unused in the international client, but it may not in the Chinese and Korean clients.

In log.exh, we can find untranslated Japanese text likely related to the fatigue system used in the Chinese version of the game. Chinese law decrees that all online games released in that territory must have a playtime-limiting fatigue system. Naturally, this goes unused elsewhere.

Free Company Guestbook

log.exh has references for errors to do with a guestbook for Free Companies - and presumably, players who own their own private housing estate.

You are not authorized to edit the guestbook.
Unable to write message. The guestbook is full.

Similar references appear in fcactivity_0.exh;

Player deleted a message from the guestbook.

And in addon_0.exh.

Loading Screen Tips

Gameplay tips and in-game lore & facts were added in Patch 2.5, meant to be shown during loading screens, but are still unused even in patch 2.57; they can be found in loadingtipstext.exh. Some near the end of the file have yet to be translated into English, German, or French.

These were removed some time around Patch 3.3.

  • Some Eorzeans believe that after death, souls must endure the trials of six hells before passing into the eternal damnation of the seventh.

  • The Great Goobbue Wall of Ul'dah, referenced in “He Who Waited Behind,” was real! It was created by adventurers on the eve of the Calamity.
  • The aitches in certain Miqo'te names represent a slight hissing sound. Since other races cannot make this sound, the aitches become silent.
  • In addition to weather such as rain, snow, and sandstorms, certain areas in Eorzea will experience an umbrally charged fog known as “gloom.”
  • Coeurl kittens and wolf pups are like Garleans and Eorzeans─they just don't get along. Keep a watchful eye on them should their paths cross!
  • Peistes, gigantoads, antlings, and vultures are known to lunch on Lalafells, but any rumors involving ravenous Roegadyn are dubious at best.
  • Throughout history, the Lalafell passed their histories down through song, which is why even now many use heavy alliteration in their speech.
  • Plainsfolk males─notable Syndicate member Teledji Adeledji included─usually go by their entire full name, rather than first or last name alone.
  • Minion behavior is varied. Some will interact with others nearby, while some will respond to emotes. Some may even act on their own.
  • Eorzea is located on Aldenard, one of the Three Great Continents. The other two─Ilsabard and Othard─lie to the north and northeast, respectively.
  • Merlwyb Bloefhiswyn came to power after emerging victorious in the Trident─a multi-pronged race used to determine Limsa Lominsa's Admiral.
  • Coerthas, once a verdant highland region, is now pounded byrelentless snowstorms─an unforeseen side-effect of the Calamity.
  • In Eorzea, weight is measured in onzes, ponzes, and tonzes. There are 16 onzes in a ponze and 2000 ponzes in a tonze.
  • The shortest Lalafells are roughly two feet ten inches (34 ilms) tall. By contrast, Roegadyn can grow to almost three times that height (90 ilms).
  • It is believed the Miqo'te first came to Eorzea during the Fifth Umbral Era, fleeing their ravaged homeland on the southern continent of Meracydia.
  • In Eorzea, length and distance are measured in ilms, fulms, yalms, and malms. There are 12 ilms in a fulm, 3 fulms in a yalm, and 1760 yalms in a malm.
  • Each previous Astral Era has ended with a Calamity corresponding toone of the six elements─fire, ice, earth, lightning, water, and wind.
  • There are three residential areas set aside for player housing─the Goblet in Thanalan, Mist in La Noscea, and the Lavender Beds in the Black Shroud.
  • Your retainer returns with a glade cottage wall, and then a roof. Are exploration ventures simply a license to raid? We may never know...
  • Brave the cold and journey to Camp Dragonhead to join the campaign against Svara. Just when you think it’s over...
