This is a sub-page of Grand Theft Auto IV/Unused Mission-Related Content.

The Cousins Bellic

There is an unused objective that tells the player to drive to the food vendor. This was possibly scrapped in favor of introducing it once you walk out of your safehouse.

Drive to the food vendor.

The audio in this mission has a somewhat unusual design, it is unusual because the developers split the fully recorded sentences into parts, and all of this have been left in files, from where it became known that one of Niko's lines was shortened.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I can't say that I have. But I know what it's like to hang out with a tit.

After arriving or when approaching the destination, Roman supposed to say one more line.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
... and here we are, at my place. Pull up.

It's Your Call

This mission has very little interest in unused content. There are a few strings that are never shown or replaced by a different string instead.

The phone tutorial was a bit more "naggy" than usual.

At the end of a call the phone is automatically put away.

Press INPUT_PHONE_ACCEPT to enter the Menu.

Your phone is ringing.

Press INPUT_PHONE_CANCEL to hang up during a phone call.

Select Options and press INPUT_PHONE_ACCEPT .

Press INPUT_PHONE_ACCEPT to call Roman.

Same with the vehicle tutorial, but with less strings.

Hold INPUT_VEH_LOOK_BEHIND to look behind. Releasing INPUT_VEH_LOOK_BEHIND resets the camera to its default position.

When in a car press INPUT_VEH_LOOK_LEFT to look left or INPUT_VEH_LOOK_RIGHT to look right.

Press INPUT_VEH_LOOK_LEFT and INPUT_VEH_LOOK_RIGHT simultaneously to look behind.

After arriving at the destination, Roman has an alternative version of the dialogue about calling him when Albanians show up, in which he sounds more serious. In this dialogue he doesn't say anything about Albanians but rather about some people.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Shit, I almost forgot. I'm giving you my old phone, my new number's in there.
Call me if some people show up in some shitty beige Willard. Those are the guys I owe money to.
Do not hurt them, I know what you're like, Niko Bellic.

There are a few extra strings that tell you to evade the loan sharks. Also, there is a string if you blocked the entrance of the gambling den. If you do block the entrance, the generic "loan sharks have been spooked" line displayed and you fail the mission.

Do not attack the loan sharks.

Evade the loan sharks.

The entrance to the gambling den was blocked.

Here come the loan sharks.

Lose the loan sharks and take Roman back to the cab depot.

It seems that in this mission it was unacceptable to arrive at both the hardware store and the cab depot with a wanted level, as evidenced by these lines from Roman

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Lose these cops, Niko. I don't want to lead them right to an illegal game.
Shit, cousin. We can't lead these cops right to this backroom game. Lose them.
Get rid of these cops, Niko. We can't lead them back to the depot.
Niko, you have to lose these cops, we cannot lead them to my place of business.

In the final version, the game automatically removes the wanted level as soon as the player arrives at one of these locations.

For some reason, there are strings when the player either passes or fails the mission. These may have been used for debugging purposes.

Mission Passed.

Mission Failed.

Gambling Phonecalls

There are a couple of unused phone calls from Roman in the files, where he asks the player what he should bet on in underground games. Judging by the fact that Niko calmly answers and has no problem taking part in it, he does not know about Roman's gambling addiction yet.

  • Blackjack
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Alright NB, quick question. I'm playing blackjack.
There's a lot of money on the line. Do I double down on eleven?
Niko
Go for it.
Roman
Shit, I got a two. This isn't good, NB. I might be going to the pawn shop later. See you.
Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Don't lose any more money. Stick with your original bet.
Roman
Shit, I got a ten. That's twenty one in total.
I could have won so much more. Speak to you later, NB.
  • Roulette
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
I'm playing roulette, cousin and I'm not doing too good.
I need some of your magic. The ball is in play. Should I bet black?
Niko
Yes, put your money on black, Roman.
Roman
Shit, fucking zero. The house edge. You have worse luck than me, Niko. Later.
Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
No, put your money on red, Roman.
Roman
Dammit, the ball landed on double zero. We were screwed either way. See you.

Three's a Crowd

There aren't many changes in this mission, the biggest one being that the dialogue on the way to Michelle's place has been shortened, including its alternate version.

Character Clip Subtitle
Mallorie
Come on you guys. You're both single, you're adults. Take her number, Niko.
Michelle
Hey, I'd like it if you called me. You must get bored hanging out with your cousin and that asshole boss of his.
Mallorie
Vlad isn't so bad.
Michelle
You're not into that whole gangster thing, are you, Niko?
Niko
Where I am from, it is difficult to avoid. The same is true here it seems.
Mallorie
Boring, stop talking about that. Talk about what it's like to be here.
You look like you just jumped off the boat, Niko.
Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
No, I guess not.
Michelle
How come all the TV shows about Liberty City are either about rampant sex or mindless violence, or people being extremely rich?
There's so much more to life here than that.
Mallorie
Show Niko what Liberty City is all about then. Not so much the violence but maybe a bit of the...
Michelle
Mallorie! So, Niko, you haven't seen any crime since you've been here, have you?
I've been told that immigrants have a real problem being targeted by criminal gangs.
Niko
I do not think I will have trouble with that.
Michelle
Well, you look like the kind of guy I'd like to get to know, Niko.

There is also a couple of other things worth noting that may be related to this mission:

  • The in-game (not cutscene) models of Mallory and Michelle have unused glasses models that could probably be used in this mission.
  • According to where Michelle's apartment interior is located, the initial destination could have been in East Hook instead of Rotterdam Hill, in both cases the place is located on Mohawk Ave.

Bleed Out

The mission is full of various small unused things. The first thing is when driving to the court, Roman could call one more time to hurry up the player.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Niko, get here quickly. This is getting out of hand.
Niko
I'm on my way, Roman.
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Niko, come help me... quickly.

While beating down Roman, Kalem supposed to say these lines:

Character Clip Subtitle
Kalem
Stay down, fat man.
You're not going anywhere.
You better not try to get up, fatty

When Dardan starts running to the car, Roman supposed to say one taunt line:

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Hey Dardan, you missed your party.

Roman has an unused alternative line about Dardan leaving his car:

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Dardan's left his car, he trying to get away on foot.

Right after that, Roman has another unused line, this time he hurry's up the player to start chasing Dardan.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Go after him, finish him off. I would do it but I'm hurt, you know? Urgh.

During the chase, Niko supposed say some of these lines:

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
We're coming for you, Dardan.
You better run fast.

After dealing with Dardan, or while chasing him on foot, there was a moment where Niko could say a line about nice view, most likely view on the city.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Hey, that's a nice view.

At the end, there is this unused alternative line from Roman about driving back to the cab depot:

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Nice one, cousin. Drive back to the depot, these bruises are starting to really hurt.

There is also couple of other things about this mission that worth being mentioned:

  • Ingame model of Roman has a unused beat-up pants texture that resembles it's early look, it could've been used in this mission or in Hostile Negotiation, in the final game none of these missions have such detail.
  • The anim.img contains couple of early and unused Roman injured animations.

Hanging Out Phonecall

After completing the Bleed Out mission, the player has the ability to start hanging out with Roman, but the player finds out about this suddenly when Roman calls him and already offer the player to go somewhere. It turns out that a phonecall was provided in which the player would be warned that he can start hanging out with Roman, this also applies to all the other friends that the player makes as he progresses through the game.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Niko, I feel like when we are hanging out it always has to be about something.
You know, we don't have enough fun together.
Niko
That's probably because you are always either working or being hassled by loansharks.
Roman
Okay, alright. We should hang out more. Call me if you ever want to do anything fun.
Like getting drunk or shooting pool. Later on, NB.

Easy Fare

This mission recieved some simplifications in it's final look, for example, at the beginning of the chase, Jermaine had to say to drive through the fence, which was shortened in the final version of the game, because of which this line would not have made much sense if it was used.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jermaine
We're trapped! Smash through that fence, man.

The fence itself was complete at some point, as evidenced by the LCPD recruitment advertisement on CNT TV show.

Frame from the CNT TV show

The .gxt file contains unused text for a couple of hints that indicate that Pay 'n' Spray was meant to be used in the mission, rather than unlocked after completing it.

Drive into the Pay 'n' Spray.

Reverse out of the garage.

There was also a need to exit vehicle, for unknown reason.

INPUT_VEH_EXIT exit vehicle.

After escaping pursuit, Jermaine was supposed to say a line that was replaced with text in the final version of the game.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jermaine
I own a Pay 'n' Spray shop over there on Gibson Street. Take us there.

It seems that if the player drove poorly or even destroyed the car, a short dialogue would occur between Niko and Jermaine.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jermaine
You really got to get some practice driving on the right side of the road. Roman shouldn't have let you out of his cab.
Niko
Hey, Roman ain't much better when he's behind the wheel. Sorry about that screw up.

Jamaican Heat

There are not many changes in this mission, the first thing to note is that there is an unused alternative line from Jacob when picking him up (according to the .gxt file).

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
Forward a' the Homebrew Cafe. It be inna Beechwood City.

The second thing is the dialogue before the shootout start was a bit longer

Character Clip Subtitle
Gangster
Jacob, Jacob, Jacob... we have te teach Badman his lesson and ting.
Real sorry, but hurting you be the only way te do that.

Cheating on Mallorie

It seems that Roman was indeed successful with women, as evidenced by the unused phonecalls.

  • Bean Machine Barista
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Ask me what I'm doing later. Come on, ask me.
Niko
What are you doing later?
Roman
I am ruining a beautiful woman for every other man on earth.
She's a barista at the local Bean Machine.
After she spends tonight with me her sexual expectations will be so high that no other man will be able to fulfill them.
I already feel sorry for her, and them.
Niko
I'm not going to give you a lecture about Mallorie, Roman.
Just be careful, some of those Bean Machine bitches give out blowjobs with the cappuccinos.
The restrooms in those places are cleaner than the baristas.
Roman
Don't crush my high, man. Of course I'll be careful. Cover for me, alright.
  • Neurotic Goddess
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Niko, you should have seen the woman who just hit on me - a neurotic goddess!
I'll call her in a few days.
Niko
What about Mallorie, Roman. I thought you said you loved her?
Roman
I do, but a man has his urges.
Niko
Does Mallorie have her urges too?
Roman
Maybe, I don't know.
I think I'm enough of a man to satisfy her but she can do what she likes.
I've got to go, Niko. See you soon.

These phonecalls eventually lead to a phonecall from Mallory herself, where the player had the choice to either tell the truth about Roman or lie.

Character Clip Subtitle
Mallorie
Niko, tell me straight. Was Roman with another woman last night? I swear I'm going to cut his balls off.
  • Telling Truth
Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
You know Roman, he has these other women but you're the only one he loves.
Mallorie
He don't act like it. Piece of shit, when I get my hands on him I'm going to...
Puto, where are the scissors? Where are the fucking scissors?
  • Telling Lie
Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Come on, Mallorie. Roman wouldn't do something like that to the love of his life.
Mallorie
I must be getting paranoid. Of course Roman wouldn't. Thanks Niko.

Roman also had to call the Niko depending on which choice he made.

  • After telling the truth
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
What the fuck are you saying to Mallorie, NB? She fucking attacked me with some scissors.
Niko
Maybe that will stop you fucking her around. If you love her like you say you do you should show her respect.
Roman
I'll remember this when one of your girlfriends calls me, okay? Later on, cousin.
  • After telling the lie
Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
NB. NB, you're a great cousin. Thank you for convincing Mallorie that I wasn't cheating.
Niko
Yes, I did, but I'm not happy about it, Roman. You should treat her with more respect than that.
Roman
Alright, alright, thanks for the lecture, cousin.

Bull in a China Shop

According to the unused objectives, Niko was supposed to go inside the shop and destroy the vases. It is extremely likely that the baseball bat seen in the opening cutscene would have been given to the player originally to do so. Vlad's mouth still moves after Niko says he doesn't need the bat, suggesting cutscene was trimmed down. Beating up the owner's son was seemingly also planned.

The audio files describe this mission a bit differently than the objectives do. An interesting fact; the interior of the shop is mostly solid (a wall in the back lacks collision) and every item is breakable. This may mean that the original plot of this mission was cut late into development.

Once the mission starts, Niko complements the shop. The shop owner then mentions Vlad. This makes no sense since Niko never mentioned Vlad yet. He has two more unused responses to the owner until he starts to smash the vases in the shop.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Hello. You got some nice stuff in here.
Shop Owner
Big Vlad and his protection money, I so scared. What I need protection from?
Niko
From people like me.
Seems careless to not be paying Vlad his protection money.

Press INPUT_NEXT_WEAPON cycle through available weapons. Equip your baseball bat.

Smash the vases.

Press and hold INPUT_AIM to target the vases.

Use INPUT_AIM and PAD_RSTICK_ALL to target the vases.

These lines are unused responses for the owner while he watches Niko smash up his shop.

Character Clip Subtitle
Shop Owner
Stupid man, you wasting your time!
I don't give no shit about you Russians!
Smash! Smash! Smash! You boring me.
Your arm starting to hurt already? I get tired just watching you.
Big man with a big bat, I so impressed!
Okay, this not so funny no more!

This is when the shop owner gives Niko the money.

Get the money from the owner.

Get the cash from the owner.

Collect the money and take it back to Vlad.

These lines may have been used if Niko continued to smash his shop, or maybe when he beats up him or his son.

Character Clip Subtitle
Shop Owner
What are you doing? I pay you already!
I thought you were protecting me now!
I paid you all money I had. There's no more!

Once Niko meets up with Vlad, Vlad berates Niko. He then gives Niko a bottle of Vodka to give to the shop owner as an apology.

Character Clip Subtitle
Vlad
What are you doing, hurting my friends, Yokel? You trying to make me mad?
Niko
I did what you said! I got your money.
Vlad
You're deaf as well as stupid. That's good to know, Yokel. I said scare him, don't hurt him.
That means don't fucking hurt him, alright? Hear me now?!
Niko
I can smell you, too!
Vlad
Take this bottle of Cherenkov. Say you're sorry and you won't do it again.
Niko
Fine!

Get to the owner.

Niko returns to the shop and gives him the Vodka.

Character Clip Subtitle
Shop Owner
Hey! Don't hurt me! Vlad say you too stupid to understand his orders.
Niko
For the record, I don't take orders from Vlad. I'm just doing a favor for my cousin.
I will give you a bottle of Vodka now to apologise for what I did.
But know, that there is nothing stopping me from coming back here and smashing it in your face!

Apparently, Niko had a choice to either give him the Vodka or kill the shop owner.

Make peace with the owner.

If Niko gave the shop owner the Vodka, he finishes the mission.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I gave him the Vodka.
Vlad
You kissed and made up, that's sweet!
If you give a shit about your fatty cousin's debt, then I've got us some work for you.
Come to the bar.

If Niko decided to kill the shop owner, he fails the mission.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
You know what, Vlad? I wanted that Vodka all to myself, so I got rid of the shop owner.
I hope you don't mind.
Vlad
You pathetic halfwit! What if I decide to get rid of your cousin when I next pay him a visit? Dipshit!

The rest of these objectives don't fit with the rest of the dialogue:

Press INPUT_MELEE_ATTACK2 or INPUT_MELEE_ATTACK3 to perform a melee attack.

Vlad is dead.

Press R3 to look behind.

Use INPUT_AIM and PAD_RSTICK_ALL to target the son.

The shop is locked.

Convince the owner to pay.

Now smash the other window.

The shop owner's son is dead.

Beat up the son.

Hold INPUT_AIM to target the son.

Some code for beating up the son was left in the files, and was restored into the game. While the code is broken, it gives a good sense of how the scene would have played out, with the shop owner running out the shop and the shop becoming accessible to fight the son inside. GTA IV: Unused Beta "Bull in a China Shop" Objective

Hung Out to Dry

This mission's unused content doesn't make it much different, unlike Bull in a China Shop. Just a few extra lines were omitted.

This exchange was supposed to start after Niko enters the laundromat and opens his mouth. Instead, the shop keeper throws the laundry at him and tells him to stay away.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I have a message from Vlad.
Shop Keeper
Fuck you, I call police! They'll show you!
Niko
You better hope the police get here real quick!
Shop Keeper
America is land of free. Leave me alone!
In Russia, I pay protection. Not here!

If the shop keeper dies, a phone call is made to Vlad. The last two sound files were supposed to play after the second dialogue.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Vlad, the muscovite ain't around no more.
Vlad
I hope you didn't kill him, I hope he choked on some detergent or something?
Fuck it. This is a lesson to every other fuckhead who thinks he's too clever to pay me.
Niko
Who could be too clever for you, Vlad?

Clean Getaway

There is no actual unused content in this mission, except for one unused objective and a detail about Vlad's phonecall.

Walk out of the garage.

In a phone call when player takes the car, Vlad tells to drive the car to a car wash on Saratoga Ave which is located in Willis, but the game displays a marker on Tutelo Ave in Beechwood City, either this was a mistake or the player was originally supposed to go there, although nothing prevents player from visiting second car wash.

Provocative Call

At some point during Vlad's missions walkthrough, the player could receive a provocative call from Vlad, where he obviously called Mallory, but "accidentally" dialed the player.

Character Clip Subtitle
Vlad
Hey baby, how about I take your beautiful ass out tonight? Maybe we can take one of your fat boyfriend's cabs...
Niko
Who are you calling, Vlad?
Vlad
Ahh, the dumb yokel, I meant to call this girl I'm seeing.

Ivan the Not So Terrible

This mission has a little more content compared to Clean Getaway.

Apparently, while running from the player, Ivan should have encountered more obstacles on his way, most likely the workers of this construction site.

Character Clip Subtitle
Ivan
Get out my way.
Move it, asshole.
I'm running here.
You got eyes?

Uncle Vlad

An unused text hint makes it clear that in this mission the player must have a vehicle, in the final version the game doesn't care how the player gets to the bar or chase Vlad afterwards.

You need a car.

When arriving at the place, Niko has an unused alternate line where he tells Roman to stay outside.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Stay in the car, let the big boys have their conversation.

After the cutscene, Niko has an unused alternate line in which he tells Roman to get back to the car.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Get to the car, Roman.

It seems that if the player arrived at the bar without a car, Roman could bring one, it only can be assumed that it could have been either a Roman's Taxi or Sentinel, why Sentinel? that's because if mission gets failed without having any vehicle before, the game starts a small cutscene where Niko and Roman wiil be sitting in Sentinel next to the cab depot.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
I brought the car round, cousin.

Vlad is fleeing in his car. Get back in Roman's car and chase after him.

When Vlad crashes his car, Roman supposed to say one of these lines:

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Look, Vlad has crashed his car and gone. Surely that is enough...
He crashes his car, this is revenge enough, no?

After completing this mission, the player could receive a phonecall from both Mallory and Michelle, in which they would be interested in where Vlad could have disappeared to.

  • Mallorie
Character Clip Subtitle
Mallorie
Hey, Niko. It's Mallorie. I've got a personal question for you.
Niko
Sure.
Mallorie
Do you know where Vlad is?
Listen, I'll level with you - I stupidly got involved with him to get back at Roman, for all his playing around.
Give him some of his own medicine - find out if he was serious about me.
Now these Russian putas keep calling me asking where he is, like I fucking know.
Niko
I haven't seen him.
Mallorie
He could be dead in the river for all I care. I just want to put that shit behind me -
Roman and I are getting on well now, and I don't want this shit to jeopardize anything. Thanks Niko.
  • Michelle
Character Clip Subtitle
Michelle
Hey, Niko. Did you hear that Vlad has gone missing?
Niko
Yeah, is a real shame. Probably ran off with some woman.
I hear he was actually successful with ladies even though he was such pig.
Michelle
Yeah, maybe that is what happened. See you soon then.

Concrete Jungle

This mission was more varied originally. The first thing to note is that Jacob's ability to sell (or give for free in case with this mission) weapons could have been demonstrated in this mission, where he could offer Niko to get the guns from the trunk.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
Ya best be getting some more teeth from the trunk, seen?
Ya best be getting a piece from the trunk, seen?

Take a weapon from the trunk of Jacob's car.

Access the trunk by approaching the rear of a vehicle and pressing INPUT_PICKUP.

Jacob has two lines related to offering the player to take weapons from the car's trunk, and it seems that it had some sense behind it. In the .gxt file one of the lines is signed as LJ1_GUN_1, while the second line is signed as LJ1_NOGUN_1, probably the developers wanted to make a check for a situation where the player does not have any weapon, in such case Jacob could've offer to take the weapon from the trunk. In the final version for such cases the game inexplicably gives the player a pistol in case if he does not have any weapon for the upcoming shootout.

The next part is even more interesting. In the second half of the mission after clearing the room, Jacob could've say that there should be more enemies upstairs that needed to be dealt with.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
We got to get rid a dis whole nest a vipers. Dere be more upstairs.

Waste the drug dealers and save Jacob.

The only problem is that the rooms at the second floor were completely removed, but the model of the second floor of the apartment still has windows from this very room, which indicate that it existed for some time, in addition to this, there are other leftovers of this part of the interior.

GTAIV ConcreteJungle2ndfloorModelRender.png

As a result of the shootout on the second floor, one of the enemies had to escape to the roof, as evidenced by these lines from Jacob:

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
See de boy go up pon da roof? Get Him! Me cover you.
Yo, mek we break outta here. I tink some more soon turn up.

The second line is used in the final version of the game, but it was connected with this cut part.

There is a bit of an oddity at the end of this mission where after the shootout ends the game tells the player to take Jacob to Homebrew Cafe, and after this prompt if the player gets in the car Jacob may say one of the following lines:

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
Cha, dey too late to stop I and I. Bring us back to the cafe and ting.
Wicked, now take me back ah the cafe and ting.

These lines sound like the player let the last target escape and Jacob just says to take him to the Homebrew Cafe, however, aside from the audio oddity, there are no any leftover that would prove the presence of such detail on this mission.

Crime and Punishment

If the player does not show up for this mission for a long time, Roman supposed to call to remind the player that he's still waiting.

Character Clip Subtitle
Roman
Where are you, cousin? I'm waiting near Perestroika. Get here soon, okay?
Niko
Chill out, Roman. There's nothing to worry about. I'm coming.

There are early versions of the objectives and other text related to this mission.

Early

The vans are in transit. Find them and pull them over.

Check out what's in the back of the van.

Stop and search the other vans.

Lose the wanted before delivering the van.

Get back in the car.

Take the van to the lockup.

Final

Find and pull over the vans before they reach their destinations.

Park up and approach the driver's window.

Pull over the other vans.

Lose your wanted level.

Get back into the van.

Drive to the lockup.

According to an unused text hint, the game could check if the sirens of a cop car were broken, perhaps the system of these sirens worked a little differently, since in the final version of the game the state of the sirens does not matter, even if they are broken the car will still be able to play the sirens sound.

Find a cop car that doesn't have a busted siren.

There is an unused alternate dialogue when the player finds a police car.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I have the police car, what now?
Dimitri
The truck is driving around South Broker.
Pull it over, take it to our lockup on Duke's Drive.
Niko
Can't you be a bit more specific than South Broker?
There has to be more than one truck around here.
Dimitri
That's not our problem. Keep pulling them over until you find the one with the TVs.
I'd do it quick, Roman don't look too good.

While searching for the van with TV's, the player could call Dmitry and get a short dialogue.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
You have the shipment already? You are good.
Niko
No, I have nothing yet. Is Roman alright?
Dimitri
Your cousin will only be alright when Mr. Faustin has that van. Go and get it for him.

After checking one or two vans, the player could also call Dmitry and get another short dialogue.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I pulled over a van, it didn't have any TVs in it.
Dimitri
Pull over more vans then.
Mr. Faustin wants those TVs. You do not want him to take out his anger on your cousin. Go.

One of the random van drivers the van could say one of the following lines after player checks him.

Character Clip Subtitle
Van Driver
Talk about dumb criminals.
You shoulda believed me, pussy hole..

After finding the right van, Niko could say one of these lines, which would not make much of a sense to be used in the final, since a shootout begins.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Finally.
Here they are.
Got them.

It looks like the player could close the van doors by pressing a button, such feature not present in the final version.

Press PAD_LB to close van doors.

After arriving to the garage, the player had to get out of the van himself, probably at that time there was no cutscene where everything is done automatically.

Get out of the van.

Do You Have Protection?

For some time this mission had a placeholder cutscene, this is not the only time where the developers left a line of text notifying about this, but such cases are pretty rare.

Placeholder for MOCAP cutscene.

In this mission, Dimitri was somewhat impatient with the player getting transport, as evidenced by these lines that would be activated at various stages of the mission.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
Please, go get us some wheels. I haven't the energy.
Come on, find a car.
Get some transport and take us to Dillon Street in Schottler.

Joseph's dialogue with Dmitry was a bit longer.

Character Clip Subtitle
Joseph
We ain't making that much cash.
Your cousins back in Eastern Europe do this for practically nothing, undercutting us.
Dimitri
Is that a fact? Maybe we can't pop you, Joseph. But we can fuck up one of your boys.
Point the gun at that guy to his left, Niko.

Brett (the target guy) had more lines asking the player not to shoot him.

Character Clip Subtitle
Brett
Hey man, please? Go easy on me. Come on, big guy?
I'm just in this for the bitches, I don't wanna get hurt! Please. Please. Come on.
Oh God.
Help. Please, no.
This ain't right.
Have a heart.

It seems that if the player had shot not in the leg but another part of the body, it would not have caused the mission to fail, as evidenced by these lines from Dimitri

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
I told you to shoot him in the leg. It matters little. Let's get out of here.
You can't even hit him in the leg. He has learned at least. Let's go.

But it seems that the order of the mission was different, since Dimitri says to leave after this, without taking money from Joseph.

If player somehow fails, Dimitri could have said this line, which is not used in the final game.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
What the hell did you do that for? How are we supposed to make them pay up now?

After dealing with Brett, Joseph's dialogue was bit longer, perhaps Dimitri shouldn't have knocked him out?

Character Clip Subtitle
Joseph
Fine, here you go. We ain't gonna have the... recources to make any more movies, but here.
Cleaned us out.

But here is something unusual, the third person in the basement was supposed to resist the player and Dimitri, and Dimitri would have ordered the player to kill him

Character Clip Subtitle
Third Guy
Motherfuckers, you're not treating me like that. I'm a player.
Dimitri
Silence this punk, Niko.
Third Guy
I'm fucking big time, bitches. I'm gonna be a star.
Character Clip Subtitle
Third Guy
You ain't nothing.
This is my show.
You don't know what I can do.
I'm special. I'm different.
Fuck you all.

At some point player had to drive to Perestroika, probably at the end of the mission.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
Take me to Perestroika, Mikhail's club.

Asking for a Drugs

Seems that after completing the Do You Have Protection? mission Faustin could have called Niko to ask if he has any drugs. Since this mission is the first one which shows that Faustin using drugs, it makes sense that he could have called after completing it.

Character Clip Subtitle
Faustin
Niko... friend, listen you got any toot? I need some fucking powder.
Niko
Sorry, my friend. I ain't got nothing.
Surely a man like you knows how to source some white?
Faustin
What fucking good are you if you don't got some shit for me?
My man is down in Vice fucking City. Shit, you fucking incompetent.

Praising Call from Dimitri

While completing missions for Faustin, Dimitri could call the Niko and praise him for how he was doing his work.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
Niko, you are doing very well for us. You are good, almost too good.
Niko
How can you be too good?
Dimitri
I don't know, I'm just surprised you have not found more success with your... talents.
Niko
Not everyone gets lucky.
Dimitri
You're right. You are lucky now though. This is a good partnership.

Final Destination

There isn't much content in this mission, except for a couple of things worth noting.

In the phone call, Faustin says that Lenny is at the Guantanamo Ave station, when in fact the station is at Windmill St. In the files, there is an early texture of the station sign, which indicates that Windmill St. station used to be Guantanamo Ave station.

After dealing with Lenny, the player supposed to call Faustin instead of Dimitri, as evidenced by this unused dialogue.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
Lenny, the boy, he's dead.
Faustin
Shut up Dimitri, I don't care who he is. It is too late anyway. Niko has killed him. Stop your whining.
You would still be in a fucking Gulag if it wasn't for me. You'd be drilling for oil in the tundra.
I'm sorry Niko. Thank you. At least you are loyal. We will work together again, come to see me at my house.

After completing this mission, Faustin could call and tell Niko not to worry about Kenny Petrovic.

Character Clip Subtitle
Faustin
Niko, do not let Dimitri worry you about Kenny Petrovic.
He is just another shit from the Old Country, running around with his boys.
He only tries to prove he is the man with biggest dick.
We have no worries about him.
Niko
His son is dead.
Faustin
He will mourn for a time and then move on, he has chosen this life for his family.
The responsibility is on his shoulders. Do not listen to Dimitri's paranoia.
The only time he's calm is when he's taking his pills.
I am in charge, Niko. Not Dimitri.
Don't forget that. Me. Remember that.

Michelle Suspects Niko

Since the mission Final Destination starts at the Perestroika club, it is logical to assume that the next phonecall should have come after completing it, in which Michelle would want to know who is Niko been working for.

Character Clip Subtitle
Michelle
Niko, a friend of mine saw you coming out of Perestroika the other day.
You haven't been taking another girl there have you?
Niko
I never took you for the jealous type, Michelle. I was just there on business. Do not worry.
Michelle
Business? Isn't it owned by some Russian gangster?
Niko
I would not know. Just making a delivery.
See you soon Michelle, don't get so paranoid, yeah?

No Love Lost

The .gxt file contains early text of various messages related to the mission:

Early

Press INPUT_VEH_ACCELERATE to accelerate. Use PAD_LSTICK_LEFTRIGHT_VEH to steer a bike.

The biker is getting away, catch up with him on a bike then take him out.

Final

Press INPUT_VEH_ACCELERATE to accelerate. Use PAD_LSTICK_LEFTRIGHT to steer a bike.

Get on the bike and chase him down.

Similar to Do You Have Protection? mission, this one also had a placeholder cutscene at some point.

PLACEHOLDER CUTSCENE.

The mission required chasing Jason on a motorcycle that game gives at the start of the chase, as evidenced by this line:

Get back on the bike, the biker is getting away.

Now the most interesting part. According to the unused text, the original place where Jason were supposed to go was not the forest, but a gas station.

The biker is heading into the gas station.

Gas stations are full of explosive objects.

You can blow up gas pumps.

It is also seems strange that the text says only about one biker but not the others, maybe Jason was not supposed to meet up with other bikers during the chase?

Also, Jason has an unused helmet model that doesn't fit at all in the final cutscene look (before the chase begins).

After completing this mission, Faustin could call and warn Niko that he has no chances with his daughter.

Character Clip Subtitle
Faustin
So you get rid of my daughter's biker boyfriend and now you think you can, how you say, ball her?
She is too good for you. I will fucking castrate you.
Niko
I do not take kindly to threats or false accusations.
I have no involvement with your daughter.
Faustin
No, no, of course not. This was test.
But if you did, Niko.
If you even think about her in that way while you jerking off, remind yourself of what I am saying.
I think I make myself clear.

Shadow

The .gxt file contains early text of various messages related to the mission:

Early

Follow the dealer to his supplier, do not attack him.

You've spooked the dealer.

The dealer is getting away. Chase him to his supplier.

You killed the dealer. You will not be able to find the supplier now.

Shoot out the door lock to gain access to the room.

Final

Follow the dealer to his supplier on foot. Stay behind him and try not to be seen.

You spooked the dealer. Keep following him to the supplier.

The dealer spotted you, keep following him to the supplier.

The dealer is dead.

Damage the lock to break open the door.

The dialogue between the dealer and the buyer was a bit longer:

Character Clip Subtitle
Dealer
That's some good shit. You done cleaned me out.
Buyer
That's a good price. I'm coming back to see you.
Dealer
For sure you are.

It seems that initially the tailing had a different system, in which the game would inform the player if he gets too close to the dealer, in the final the game does not give any information and the dealer immediately gets spooked if player makes any mistake.

Don't get too close to the dealer or he'll get suspicious.

You're too close to the dealer, keep your distance.

Some strange lines that would probably meant to be triggered if the player decided to target the dealer with a weapon, in the final version the dealer doesn't care about the weapon and will only run if the player gets too close to him.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dealer
Hell no. Stay away, junkie. I'm all out of product.
Shit. Don't cap an innocent brother.

While running after the dealer, Niko had to shout out some lines to him

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
That corner belongs to Badman.
I have some Jamaican friends who are real angry with you.
Why're you running away from me? I just want to talk.
You shouldn't deal drugs to kids, man.
I can keep running all day.

It seems that the player could injure the dealer during the chase and keep following him, in the final game the dealer is very vulnerable to any damage and immediately gets knocked down, thus causing the mission to fail.

Early

You wounded the dealer, keep following him to the supplier.

Final

The dealer was injured.

There is one unused alternate line from Niko, where he says that he only found one dealer if the mission gets failed after killing the dealer.

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
I only found one dealer. He's dead.

When getting to the other dealers, there was supposed to be a conversation between them, which in the final version was replaced by just one line

Character Clip Subtitle
Dealer
Take care of this boy on my back.
Second Dealer
What you doin' leadin' people up to this shit? You fuckin' stupid?
Dealer
Thought you could handle it?
Second Dealer
You done got us killed.
Character Clip Subtitle
Second Dealer
What you doing coming back here when you got heat on your back?

During the shootout, Niko could shout some of these lines:

Character Clip Subtitle
Niko
That corner belongs to Little Jacob and Badman. You should know that.
You deal on someone else's turf, you going to pay for it.
Some friends of mine are pissed off with you, now you got me angry.

At some point the player was supposed to meet Little Jacob, nothing more is known about it.

Go meet Little Jacob.

Hanging Out Phonecall

Similar to Roman, Jacob also has a special phonecall that would notify the player that he can start hanging out with him.

Character Clip Subtitle
Jacob
Yo, Niko. How's tings?
Niko
Okay, what's up man? You and Badman got some work for me?
Jacob
Nah, man. Dere ain't nothing going on at the moment, ya know.
I was thinking you might get turned off with us and just wanna hang with your cousin.
Niko
Roman's my cousin, I get sick of him but I'm stuck with him.
Jacob
Seen, me bredren. Roman's a good man as any man to be stuck with ya know, star.
Gimme a call if you want hang with Jacob sometime, seen? One love.

About Ilyena and Dimitri

It seems that after the Rigged to Blow mission, Faustin could have called Niko and ask him if he knows anything about the Dimitri and Ilyena. There is no exact indication of when this call should have been made, but the most logical seems to be this mission, or it should have been made after No Love Lost, although there is also an unused phonecall.

Character Clip Subtitle
Faustin
Niko, you are my employee, you must answer my questions.
Is Dimitri giving it to my wife, Ilyena?
Niko
All I know is that Dimitri is your friend, I do not think he would betray you like this.
Faustin
You see anything, you will say.
Dimitri is not rat like Vlad, but no one can be trusted. No one.

Calling Dimitri for no reason

In one of Faustin's missions, the player would be able to call Dmitri and get different answers from him, but it is unknown which mission this would apply to, since Crime and Punishment has its own unused phonecall lines from Dimitri, and in the case of the other missions, Dimitri either does not participate or already has unique answer used by the game (Final Destination for example). This probably has something to do with early mission design or something else.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
Is it done yet?
Niko
No, I'm doing my best though.
Dimitri
Mr. Faustin does not care about how hard you are trying, he cares about this getting done.
Goodbye.
Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
You have good news?
Niko
Only if no news is good news.
Dimitri
Then why are you calling me? Goodbye, Niko.
Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
What have you got for Mr. Faustin?
Niko
Nothing yet.
Dimitri
Don't call when you have nothing.
Mr. Faustin, does not like to be bothered with trivialities. Goodbye.

Early Firefly Island Appointment

It seems that initially the developers wanted to make The Master and the Molotov mission time-limited, for which they made several phonecalls from Dimitri, where he would name the specific time for the meeting. In the final version of the game, all this was replaced by a simple SMS message.

Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
Niko, it is Dimitri. We have something to discuss
Niko
Alright, discuss it.
Character Clip Subtitle
Dimitri
We need to talk in person.
I'll be on the Firefly Island boardwalk from 8pm until 1am.
I hope to see you there.
