There's tiles for small Donkey Kong-like numbers. I'm not actually sure if it's unused, but it looks like it.

The NES Lode Runner is a port of the computer game of the same name, which was turned into a sequel to Bomberman.

Select Secrets

While playing, press Select to view current level, then press the following buttons for different effects:

Level Select: Press B to go up a level or press A to go down a level, then Start to play the stage.

Character Speed: Hold Select and press A (up to 50 times) to increase the game's speed or B to lower it.

The NES version adds "BY BRODERBUND SOFTWARE INC" below the Lode Runner logo. The surrounding bricks in the Famicom version were removed. The copyright information below was updated with the usual "LICENSED BY NINTENDO OF AMERICA INC" as found on all licensed NES releases.
