Mega Man Maker/Unused Music

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Mega Man Maker.

There's quite a lot of unused tracks within the various music files.

Unused Official Music

Due to the way the original NES music files are used, a great many tracks from Mega Man 1-6 go completely unused. Basically, any song that isn't a stage theme is never used within Mega Man Maker, since original music is used for various key events and the like, instead.

Unused Original Music

Way back in version 1.0.0 of the game, a slew of interesting tracks existed -- mostly remixed in a style similar to Rockman.EXE 4.5 Real Operation's character themes; slowed-down, often shortened, but no less catchy than the originals. Word of God says there were plans for these themes, but as of version 1.5.0, they were removed from their respective NSF files and left on, well, the cutting room floor. (How appropriate!)

Menu.nsf

Note: This file is the same as "Tutorial.nsf" and "Timeman.nsf" with one noted exception.

Track 01 - Time Man Stage (Mega Man: Powered Up)

Menu.nsf Tutorial/Timeman.nsf

Inside Menu.nsf is what appears to be an rough, early work-in-progress version Time Man's theme, from Mega Man: Powered Up. It sounds very similar, but it seems like the musician had something much different in mind, when compared to the final version found in both Tutorial.nsf and Timeman.nsf.

Track 04 - Unknown tune

The very beginnings of an original tune. Possibly an early attempt at a "credits" theme?

Track 05 - Cut Man Stage (Mega Man)

A nice remix of the first stage of the first game. The intro is gone, compared to the original, but the rest of the tune is there.

Track 06 - Wily Stage 2 (Mega Man)

Just a slower version of the second Wily stage from Mega Man, minus some notes.

Track 07 - Wily Stage 1 (Mega Man 2)

The most popular tune from any Mega Man game. Only the first couple of parts, though.

Track 08 - Gemini Man Stage (Mega Man 3)

Basically, the entire song, but in a more "bubbly" style. It also skips the "intro," when first played.

Track 09 - Hard Man Stage (Mega Man 3)

An interesting take on Hard Man's theme. Missing the intro part, compared to the original.

Track 10 - Magnet Man Stage (Mega Man 3)

A pretty catch rendition. Only the looping section of the original made it in.

Track 11 - Wily Stage 1 (Mega Man 3)

A very charming version of the first Wily stage theme, minus the intro.

Track 12 - Dust Man Stage (Mega Man 4)

A little snippet of Dust Man's theme. Just the intro part, basically. The tempo is about the same as the original.

Track 13 - Wily Stage 1 (Mega Man 4)

A very nice rendition of the most underrated [citation needed] Wily stage theme of them all.

Track 14 - Star Man Stage (Mega Man 5)

A remix of the entirety of Star Man's theme. The tempo is about the same and the part before the breakdown is missing some notes.

Track 15 - Wily Stage (Mega Man 5)

About half of Wily's fifth castle theme.

Track 16 - Wily Stage (Mega Man 6)

A very nice version of Wily's most foreboding castle theme.

Track 18 - Burst Man Stage (Mega Man 7)

A nice remix of Burst Man's entire theme, from the seventh game.

Track 19 - Hornet Man Stage (Mega Man 9)

A very nice "slow jam" version of Hornet Man's stage theme.

Track 20 - Plug Man Stage (Mega Man 9)

A very "chiptune-inspired" rendition of about half of Plug Man's theme.

Track 21 - Commando Man Stage (Mega Man 10)

An odd, but catchy, rendition of Commando Man's theme, up to just before where the original would loop.

Track 22 - Chill Man Stage (Mega Man 10)

An oddly "warmer" version of a chilling theme. About half of the original song was used, here.

Track 23 - Blade Man Stage (Mega Man 10)

The entirety of Blade Man's theme, complete with a unique loop point, done about half as slow as the original.

Editor.nsf

Track 02 - Bomb Man Stage (Mega Man)

Most of an almost "tropical" remix of Bomb Man's theme. Abruptly loops at the beginning of the second half.

Track 04 - Bubble Man Stage (Mega Man 2)

A very short segment of Bubble Man's theme from just after the beginning (compared to the original).

Track 05 - Flash Man Stage (Mega Man 2)

The entire looping segment of Flash Man's stage theme with very heavy drums.

Track 06 - Shadow Man Stage (Mega Man 3)

A somewhat off-key rendition of some of Shadow Man's theme. Starts just after the intro and stops just before the crescendo, compared to the original.

Track 07 - Bright Man Stage (Mega Man 4)

A very energetic rendition of the first few seconds of Bright Man's stage loop.

Track 09 - Dark Man Stage (Mega Man 5)

An extremely short snippet of a simplified version of Dark Man's stage theme. Possibly a work-in-progress?

Track 10 - Blizzard Man Stage (Mega Man 6)

A sombre version of Blizzard Man's stage theme with some off notes toward the end. It kind of sounds like a slow-down version of Knight Man's theme, the way its arranged.

Track 11 - Flame Man Stage (Mega Man 6)

A slightly faster version of Flame Man's stage theme with significantly simplified melodies.

Track 12 - Centaur Man Stage (Mega Man 6)

A slow, melodic rendition of the only four-legged Robot Master's theme.

Other Unused Music

Title Theme

Title.nsf (v1.0.0) Title.nsf (v1.1.0 onward)

When the project was upgraded to v1.1.0, it got a new name, a new title screen, and a new title track, leaving the old one by the wayside.

Megalovania

A full 2A03 rendition of "Megalovania" from Toby Fox's Undertale was added to the Mega Man 2 Wily Stage 6 NSF file as Track 2. Internally, the file is still credited to Dr. Lumen, who "composed" the completely blank original. However, the arranger of Track 2 is Saphy (aka, "Beruve") who has done numerous other arrangements.

There are rumors that it can be accessed through text editing level files or deleting other music files, though neither of those methods seem to work. There is no matching strings within the game's data, either, suggesting that it is genuinely unused.
