This page contains notes for the game Mario Kart: Double Dash!!.

This page contains instructions on accessing unused content without the involvement of Action Replay / Gecko codes, and assumes you've already installed the latest release of MKDD Track Editor.

Dekoboko Patch Instructions

This part explains how to restore Dekoboko, an early draft of Sherbet Land found in the European kiosk demo. Because the course uses an older format for its .bol and .bco files, it can't be loaded right away, and has to be modified to avoid crashes. Alternatively, you can download these Xdelta patches to restore the course.

File: Gamecube-MKDD-Dekoboko_Patches-1.7z (1.20kb) (info)
  1. Open Dekoboko(L).arc. Choosing to view the course itself, collision or nothing at all doesn't matter. The tool will automatically convert the bundled .bol file to a readable format.
  2. Under "Track Settings", tick "Sky Follow". This will make the sky box visible.
  3. Save the course and exit.
  4. Download the latest release of GameCube File Tools.
  5. Open your modified Dekoboko(L).arc and extract dekoboko_course.bco.
  6. Open dekoboko_course.bco in a hex editor (such as HxD), change value 0x3 from 2 to 3 and save your changes.
  7. In GameCube File Tools, right-click on dekoboko_course.bco, and click "Replace File". Select your modified .bco file.
  8. Finally, click "Export RARC", save and replace Dekoboko(L).arc in the game's course folder.

From here, Dekoboko is accessible from the debug menu, assuming you've enabled the debug menu or are using the debug build.

Enabling Disabled Objects

This part explains how to enable objects mentioned on this page.

  1. Open any of the .arc course files. Choosing to view the course itself or its collision might be useful for identifying object placements.
  2. Under "Objects", select an object and check the object presence. The object must either:
    1. For any course, no icons displayed under "Player Mode Presence".
    2. For a Battle Mode map, no icons displayed under "Game Mode Presence".
  3. Go to the presence option and enable in which modes the object should appear.
  4. Save the course and exit.

If done correctly, the selected objects should appear in game.

Tweaking Object Settings

This part explains how to tweak object settings to, for example, view Nossie's alternate colors or enable the special item box toggle.

  1. Open any of the .arc course files. Choosing to view the course itself or its collision might be useful for identifying object placements.
  2. Example No. 1: If you want to change Nossie's colors, under "Objects", check for TMapObjSwimNossie and change its "Color ID". 0 sets it to purple, and 1 to light blue.
  3. Example No. 2: If you want to set item boxes to always spawn special items, under "Objects", check for GeoItemBox and tick "Always Special Item".
  4. Save the course and exit.

If done correctly, Nossie's alternate colors will show up in game.

Extending Laps

This part explains how to increase the amount of laps to view Lakitu's 9th lap sign.

  1. Open any of the .arc course files. Choosing to view the course itself, collision or nothing at all doesn't matter.
  2. Under "Track Settings", change the amount of laps under "Lap Count". Do note the following:
    1. Attempting to enter an 11th lap under any circumstance will crash the game, as this exceeds the amount of laps the game is programmed to.
    2. Attempting to beat a Time Trial with 8 laps or higher will crash the game too.
  3. Save the course and exit.

If done correctly, you should be able to view unused layouts or graphics after you've reached a certain lap or have beaten a course.
