Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team/Development Text

From The Cutting Room Floor
Jump to navigation Jump to search

This is a sub-page of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.

Hmmm...
To do:
There is a lot more of development-related text, which slightly differs from Red Rescue Team to Blue Rescue Team.

"Unregistered dialog script" Dialogue

This is found in the Debug Room.
Japanese International
かいわスクリプトみとうろく
Unregistered dialog script

This red text line is displayed in the textbox when talking to an overworld Pokémon which has no dialog script set. It can be found in the unused overworld areas.

"invalidity" String

Effect of cheat code below. Note that this works even if there is no game saved.
Japanese International
むこう
invalidity

This red word is displayed in place of undefined string variables in textboxes. The following cheat code forces the game to show it in the main menu:

Red Rescue Team (GameShark) Blue Rescue Team
D4A8D728 9CCAB80C
5ECB57AF CA29737F
A3B8FC60 432D52C4
2713B05D 566003E0

Not applicable

This code will change the "Adventure Log" text menu in "$m0", which is a text macro for pointing a string variable. Note that there aren't equivalent cheat codes applicable for Blue Rescue Team, for which this change can only be done by editing the ROM file.

"undefine" String

Hmmm...
To do:
Find a way to trigger it.
Japanese International
みていぎ
undefine

This red word is present in the ROM after the "invalidity" one. It's probably a placeholder for undefined string variables.

"ななし" Friend Area Name

Used as a name placeholder. Means "Nameless".

Unused Results-Screen Lines

Hmmm...
To do:
Fill in the remaining Japanese strings, and confirm the ones already listed by checking in-game.

Several of the strings meant for the screen showing the results of a dungeon (specifically, how your team leader was defeated or left) can never be seen in normal gameplay.

Text (JP) Text (EN) Context
なかまとして うまれかわった
was transformed into a friend.
Internally used for when a recruited enemy Pokémon is removed from the map to be replaced with a friendly version of it, which obviously can't apply to the team leader.
なかまになれず さっていった
left without being befriended.
As above, but for rejecting the would-be recruit.
debugダメージ
debug damage.
Only seen in part of a function in the start of the dungeon-generation code that can never actually be called; if it were, it would delete all Pokémon on the floor with this message assigned to them.
イベントのつごうで けされた
was deleted for the sake of an event.
Internally used for when NPCs are unloaded as part of a cutscene.
went away.
Internally used for team members that are dismissed from the dungeon by choosing "Farewell" through the party menu, but this option isn't available for team leaders.
was possessed.
Internally used for when a team member faints from the effect of the Possess Orb. Since it both requires an unobtainable item and is impossible to apply to the team leader, this message can be considered doubly unused!
debugこうげきで ちからつきた
fainted from a debug attack.
Presumably was once debug-related, but it's completely unreferenced in the final game's code.
was defeated by a powerful move.
This string is repeated a whopping 8 times in the ROM, but none of the corresponding action IDs are used for anything.
ダメージのワナBをふんで たおれた
fainted due to a trap's damage.
Completely unreferenced in the code. The Japanese string translates to "fainted due to stepping on Damage Trap B", implying this belonged to a trap that was cut before receiving a proper name.

  • The Europe string seems to be damaged.
