Brawl Stars has gone through three development stages in its lifetime, each different from the other. -Project Laser -Guntown -Slugfest -Brawl Stars

Now there's a fairly basic summary of each development stage, due to the fact that a YouTuber by the name of Havoc has already made a very good video around the topic of these three development stages. [1]

In the beginning of development, the game was originally space themed. It was called Project Laser, and not a whole lot is known about this version due to how early it is and the things around it. I will show a few things from it however.

This video here is from a YouTuber named Sky Zone BS. It is footage of developer gameplay of an unknown build of the game in its Project Laser stage. Thanks to the nature of this person, horrible stock music has been put over this gameplay. [2]

The first part of this video (0:00 through 0:26)shows a few Heroes at the time, which are simply just what they used to call Brawlers. It also shows an early version of Gem Grab, known as Coin Rush. The vision of this version is also far different from the final release, as instead of being able to see everything that isn't strictly hidden from view by a Bush, the view is raycast and you cannot see what your character wouldn't be able to see. This method of vision is comparable to the modern smartphone game Among Us, which may give a better idea to some people. Walking speed is also much slower in this version.

The second part showcases an entirely different build, which seems to be a later version. In this version, the coins represented seem to be actual coins now, along with the game adopting the portrait mode play-style seen in the 2017 soft-launch. The game mode design here is also more similar to the modern version of Gem Grab, where it requires 10 coins to win. The raycast footage from the previous showcased build has also been removed in this build. The Super build up system also seems closer to today, where in this version a percentage meter is under the moving character, and a button in the bottom left also fills up with attacks, until a super is obtained. A playable version of today's Fast Melee Bot is also shown in this footage, especially apparent in (1:29) through (1:36). I cannot discern whether this is a prototype of Brock or Jessie, as the video shows it shooting a rocket, but sound effects and the wrench icon besides the robot's picture suggests that it is a sentry-building engineer.

The first sound effects is a robotic voice saying "Constructing". This implies that a robot was going to build something. The second one is the sound of a turret going up, which is in fact still used to this day for the brawler Jessie. The filename once again suggests that it is a robot's turret, which is again evidence that the fast melee bot of today was the first version of Jessie.

Note that in this demonstration of gameplay, the character being played has an attack that is fairly similar to today's Tick, and has a super similar to today's Brock.
