Early Development
Frederik "Fresch" Schreiber had previously been working on Daikatana Remake, a Unreal Tournament 3 remake mod of the infamous John Romero game and later SiN: Reloaded, a from the ground up remake of SiN in Unreal Engine 3. Both projects were later abandoned by Schreiber; the former due to a lack of interest and the latter due to a cease-and-desist from MumboJumbo Games, the then owner of the SiN IP.
Schreiber was later motivated to pursue a next-generation remake of Duke Nukem 3D after Gearbox had announced they were continuing development of Duke Nukem Forever.
September 2010
On September 24th, Schreiber would post his work onto the Gearbox forums, showing a reimagining of the firs level of Duke Nukem 3D, Hollywood Holocaust.
Two days later, Schreiber would update his post with more screenshots, nine of a recreation of Death Row and one showing the level in an editor.
If it gets the "Go" from Scott Miller, i would need a team. I my self am very productive, but a full game - even with help from a lot of people - would take years. If it gets the "Go!" my plan is to release a 1 map Multiplayer release with a couple of weapons to play with, to spark interest in the project :)
Test Trailer
A test trailer dating to 2010, under the "Duke Nukem Next-Gen" title. This trailer showcases the starting area of first level of the game remade. It also has some differences to the leaked build, such as:
- The HUD uses different fonts and has a different design.
- The weapon viewmodel is invisible, however, the weapon being held could be the starter pistol, as seen near the end.
- At this time, the project was a one-man show, before the forming of Interceptor Entertainment. This is evident in the intro.
October 2010
On October 13th,
We are very proud to OFFICIALLY announce: HAIL TO THE KING BABY! __________________________________________________ _______________ What is Duke Nukem: Next-Gen?
Duke Nukem: Next-Gen - Is a new independently developed game - By the fans, for the fans!Duke Nukem: Next-Gen (DNNG), is the codename (Not final title), for at new Re-vision of Duke Nukem 3D. Duke Nukem 3D, if the game was made today. DNNG uses Unreal Engine 3 technology to achieve the graphics expected for a next-gen title.
The final game will include both a 3 Episode Singleplayer campaign, and a full fledged Multiplayer Component, and will be released free to everyone - NO other games required.
__________________________________________________ _______________ How did this happen?
A few weeks ago, i played with the idea of a Duke Nukem 3D revision, made on Unreal Engine 3 Tech. Knowning that every other Duke project, not based on 3Drealms own technology (Build), has been knifed and cancelled, i didnt think it was possible to do.But i still went for the idea and made a "Test" map, of what it might look like. Afterwards i took some screenshots, posted them on this board, for everyone to see - And all hell broke loose! Suddently the "News" of a Next-Gen remake, was all over the internet, even though the development wasnt approved by either Gearbox or 3Drealms.
I contacted George Brussard and Scott Miller, to start a conversation about the project - The shots managed to convice Scott Miller to a certain degree - But the project was only doable if Take-Two would approve it.
Thinking that Gearbox might have a better relationship to Take-Two, than 3Drealms, i contacted AdamF, who passed me through to PJ Putnam, Vice President and General Counsel of Gearbox Software.
Luckily Gearbox was interested in supporting the project, which resulted in a personal non-commercial license to Duke Nukem.
ITS FINALLY HAPPENING! __________________________________________________ _______________ When will this be released?
DNNG - The final full game, will be released "When its done" (No kidding). But we wont hold back the experience, until the final game gets released. We want to ensure that the entire community will play a part in testing the product in different phases.Thats why everyone will be able to play the first official Milestone Test. The first test will include a few maps, and the weapons, items, etc. included in those maps. This will be a Multiplayer Duke-Match Test.
We have an internal releasedate [sic] for the Multiplayer Demo, and its sooner than you think - We hope you are just as excited as we are

August 2011
A small status update from the team is posted.
DNR - Status Update!
16-August-2011
A small status update from the team: We are currently working hard, at finishing the first playable version of Duke Nukem Reloaded. The game was well recieved at Gearbox Software, and we have had a big media package, in-game trailer, and a "Behind the Scenes" Documentary ready, for a few months. But unfortunately we can't share any of this with you just yet. Just as you are waiting for the next official news about Duke Nukem Reloaded, we are waiting for Gearbox Software to allow us to release what we have been working on.
The game is looking, and playing great. We have been striving for a High-End, Next Generation look with a much darker theme than Duke Nukem Forever. Even though we can't release our media package just yet, you can take a look at the Samaritan Demo from Epic. The mood, the setting and the Graphical features are the same.
We are currently around 80% finished with the Multiplayer Beta, and we are playing daily matches.
Without your support, this would never have happened. Once Gearbox Software decides, that it's time for Duke Nukem Reloaded to be unleashed, you will know.
We are ready! We are just waiting for the "Go!"
Sincerely, Frederik Schreiber Project Lead
Silent Cancellation
On September 24th, 2011, Interceptor would announce that the game had been put on an indefinite hold. Over time this was obviously a silent cancellation of the title.
Public Announcement
24-September-2011
After careful consideration of the progress and direction of the project, Interceptor Entertainment has decided to finish Duke Nukem: Reloaded at a future date that is yet to be determined.
Interceptor Entertainment still has the good will and non commercial [sic] license provided to us to use the Duke Nukem brand for our creative ambitions. We hope to resume that work again when the time is right.
In the interim, please know that the praise and support we received for our efforts has been both overwhelming and appreciated. Interceptor Entertainment looks forward to revisiting the DNR project in the future, along with several other new, creative pursuits. Our fans can rest assured: We are going to focus our efforts on exciting endeavors and we welcome the challenges that await us!
With sincere gratitude to our fans for their incredible support,
