This page details pre-release information and/or media for Mega Man X5.

Capcom E3 Sales Presentation VHS

A pre-release trailer which represents a build earlier than May 1, 2000 build:

  • The font of countdown timer in Crescent Grizzly/Grizzly Slash stage is different.
  • The electric wires between cars are static and uses a different graphic, unlike in May 1, 2000 build and onwards.
  • Zero has a (presumed) glitch in which he might have a chance to draw out the third slash directly, rather than the Mega Man X4 style where he has to perform the full combo slash to trigger the third slash.
  • Zero still uses his Mega Man X4 life bar HUD. In May 1, 2000 build Zero gets placeholder life bar similar to X's version.

Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2 - Rockman X5 Trailer

A pre-release trailer included in Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2, for some reason, showcases a build which has a few differences over final builds:

  • Zero's Quake Blazer reuses the sound of Hyouretsuzan in X4, like it was July 28, 2000 prototype.
  • The model for the Enigma Cannon is fully modeled and textured, while the final instead uses a wireframe model..
  • Dynamo's appearance in the opening scenario uses the July 28, 2000 prototype variation. The rest of scenario cutscenes demonstrated in the trailer used their finalized variation, suggesting it was a late change (interestingly, this version can also be seen in the credits).

July 11, 2000 Prototype

Hmmm...
To do:
Find better quality source of these screenshots.

Several screenshots were uploaded to IGN and are dated July 11, 2000, showcasing a build between the May 1 and July 28 builds; all of these screenshots have level designs consistent with the July 28 prototype, but still use the placeholder May 1 lifebars for X, Zero and bosses.

Another screenshot from this build can also be found in Capcom Friendly Club Issue 14 (Winter 2000).

Mega Man X5 Sound Collection Extra Tracks

For whatever reason, Mega Man X5 Sound Collection includes a few scrapped songs.

Title Song Description
Stage Select
A very incomplete stage select theme; a more complete version was used in the May 1, 2000 build before it was reworked all-together. It's also possible it was once meant to be the Zero Virus Stage Select theme, given how sinister it sounds.
Deep Sea
An early version of the Duff McWhalen/Tidal Whale stage theme; used in the May 1, 2000 build before it was replaced with a remix of Bubble Crab's theme from X2.
Dr. Right
An early Dr. Light theme; like with Duff McWhalen/Tidal Whale, it was an original track before being replaced with a remix of the X1 theme; found within the data of the May 1, 2000 build and is also used during the staff roll within the gallery of Mega Man X Collection.
Mission Report
Missing many instruments, although it otherwise still follows the final song; found within the data of the May 1, 2000 build and is included within the gallery of Mega Man X Collection.
Armageddon File:MegaManX5SoundCollection - Armageddon.ogg Possibly intended as an ending theme. The final game notably includes a unique theme for the bad ending, but not for the good one, where this would fit. Included within the gallery of Mega Man X Collection.
Zero Dead
Different instrumentation; found within the data of the May 1, 2000 build.
