Early Communication Icons and GUI
Used in nearly all promotional images and in all playthrough demonstrations by Nintendo Treehouse Live (prior to the game's release) is a set of communication icons with numerous differences from the set actually found within the game. This gif demonstrates the subtle differences between the two:
Background
- The early background had a decorative line ending in a curl underneath the level name and remaining fairies. The background was changed to be much simpler, with different (and more faint) decorative indents.
- The remaining fairies had a completely different icon in the early version of the game.
Hero Panels
- The shape of the Hero Panels was changed from having rounded corners to cut corners.
- The wood effect of the panels (alternating lighter and darker strips) are much thinner and more numerous in the early design. The result is that the early panels make a more realistic wood effect while the used panels achieve that cartoon look and feel.
- The Red, Green, and Blue Link icons are larger in the early panels. They also have a thick black border, while the used panels have a very thin border.
- The font for the player name and outfit is larger in the early version.
- Red Link's hair is orange instead of red.
Communication Icons
- The communication icons use an entirely different font in the early version.
- The text in the early version is slightly curved upward, while the used version has completely straight text.
- The 'Over here!' icon fills in the triangle made in my Link's right hand near his face, this was left unfilled in the early version.
- The 'Nooo!' icon is the most drastically different, with different eyes and a different mouth. A larger version of this graphic was also released as a piece of promotional artwork. Nintendo Badge Arcade uses said artwork as a badge.
