Just Curious
Just out of curiosity, why does this page even exist? Was this pre-release ever shown as a playable demo to the public? Did someone find a copy of this cartridge? Just wondering. Clone5184 (talk) 19:26, 6 September 2014 (EDT)
- Pre-release articles can detail anything that isn't directly playable really, from screenshots, developer comments, non-publically released prototypes, trailers and more.
Since Kakuto was outright stated to be the original template for Smash, it stands to reason as to why it's documented here. Crashandcortex (talk) 02:52, 7 September 2014 (EDT)
Putting this here until it can be cleaned up
Unused Bonus Stage Idea
In an 1999 interview with Shigesato Itoi, Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that there were many ideas that were scrapped for 1 player modes. One of those was an additional bonus stage called "time attack". Sakurai didn't go into great detail about the mode, only saying that it had some components of a racing game. He noted that when players completed the stage with all characters, a "total time" would appear on the bottom.

Cut Characters
On the Smash Dojo website, Masahiro Sakurai confirmed that Bowser and Dedede had some work completed on them, before being scrapped. Mewtwo was also planned, but it's currently unknown how far Mewtwo got into development.
