This is a sub-page of Proto:Duke Nukem Forever/2001/Levels/Campaign Maps.

Level select menu thumbnail.

In this chapter, the player reaches Morningwood-with it's sole inhabitant being Gus, who was supposed to appear in the first level of Heat Wave. This chapter has a non-functional last level (map was deleted), all the maps but the first in the chapter select menu are called "Morningwood" and little to no enemies. One thing to note is that the Quake 2 iteration of Duke Nukem Forever also had Morningwood as a location, where Gus was also found.

This chapter was gonna impose the Sandworms as a strong plot element, as evidenced by the third level having the player walk through a hole of a giant Sandworm and a scripted sequence featuring a regular sized Sandworm and the Mule from Heat Wave, the fourth level calling itself the "Giant Worm Research Facility" in the opening vignette and a giant Sandworm in a pit, and the fifth level taking place inside said giant Sandworm.

Ghost Town

The helicopter flying over the tracks, slightly clipping with them.

This is the first level of Ghost Town. When the player begins walking on the tracks, the console will print out: I love the smell of Napalm in the morning. It is likely that Duke Nukem is saying this, and the line hadn't been recorded yet.

A second or two after the console speaks that line, an EDF Helicopter will arrive from the mountains on the right, where it will fly through the tracks and to the left, somewhat clipping into the tracks, where it will fly back to the right. It will keep flying in a cicle. It doesn't get damaged by the player and it doesn't have collision with the player. If the player walks in a straight line they will eventually walk towards the level transition.
