This cactus is UNDER CONSTRUCTION
This article is a work in progress.
...Well, all the articles here are, in a way. But this one moreso, and the article may contain incomplete information and editor's notes.
And you were just a scroll away from being fired too...
Oh dear, I do believe I have the vapors.
This page contains content that is not safe for work or other locations with the potential for personal embarrassment.
Such as: Nude test characters, more revealing designs, and pantyshots.
Hmmm...
To do:
  • Document differences with the playable characters.
  • Replace the in-game screenshots with model renders for a more consistent comparison now that it's easier to pull assets from newer versions.
  • Add texture comparisons.

CBT1 has many unused characters that would appear in later versions of the game, some of which have drastic design differences. Some playable characters also feature earlier design choices. This page details the visuals of the characters, while the Avatars page covers their gameplay.

With the release of Yaoyao in v3.4, all characters on this page (excluding test characters) have been added to the game.

Test Characters

Incomplete characters, or those made specifically for testing purposes.

It's no secret that Genshin Impact's characters are cookie cutter, derived from one of five types. Internally, they are named boy, girl, lady, loli and male. Within CBT1's files, some of the base models for these character types can be found.

avatar_boy_bow_aquaria

Uses Razor's assets. Pretty much identical, but there is a negligible difference: The left sleeve is a bit flatter. It's unclear whether this is just an earlier incarnation of Razor, or if it's actually a placeholder for a different character altogether.

Aquaria Razor
GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar boy bow aquaria-Angle.png GenshinImpact-CBT1-Razor-Angle.png

avatar_boy_sword_naked

A naked base model for the "boy" character type. Its eyes don't appear to be properly textured, and the skin tone of its face is different from the rest of its body.

Good grief, he's naked! GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar boy sword naked-Back.png GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar boy sword naked-Angle.png

avatar_girl_claymore_claymoregirl

avatar_lady_sword_testlady

GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar lady sword testlady-Front.png GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar lady sword testlady-Back.png GenshinImpact-CBT1-avatar lady sword testlady-Angle.png

avatar_male_sword_testman

A naked base model for the "male" character type. A specific texture set doesn't exist in the files, and to make matters worse, neither nude textures map correctly to its body. It also has its eyes as a separate model, rather than being tied to the body.

To approximate its look, the "Avatar_BoyT_Sword_CommonBoy" textures were used for its body and face, with Kate's eyes being used for the separate eye model.

Beidou

Playable as of CBT2

  • The inside of her cloak is colored red and black instead of purple.
  • Less gold trim on her outfit.
  • Her gloves go up to her elbows and have a strap at the top.
  • The band of her eye patch is positioned a little lower.

testheroine_type_01

It's Kate! She comes with two sets of textures in black and in red.

This character also has a duplicate named "Kevin", perhaps referring to the character of the same name from Honkai Impact 3rd, another game by miHoYo. This is nothing more than a placeholder for the Traveler, and will likely never become a proper playable character.

The red variant has a party icon. There is also a character icon for her, though it appears to be based on "nudeheroine_type_01", despite mentioning Kate in the filename.

Yaoyao

Playable as of v3.4.

  • She was originally classified as catalyst character, but was changed to use a polearm upon release.
  • Her Dendro Vision hanging on her basket ribbon is instead a bell.
  • The Yuegui in her basket sports a much rounder and simpler design.
  • The pattern on her skirt is a simple oval instead of an overlapping twist with small lines underneath. Her skirt is also wider.
  • Her boots have a slightly different design, with the white part not hanging down over the orange and the ties being farther forward near the toes.

  • Her costume is covering less of her groin area, noticeable when viewed from an angle. This also means more of her behind is visible, since the covering is not there. (Dress removed for visibility)
  • This design is actually reflected in some of her older artwork, though newer artwork uses her current appearance.

Hu Tao

Playable as of v1.3. Although her general design is the same, there are several minor differences from her released iteration.

  • Her hair is more detailed.
    • Her locks in front extend down to her chest.
    • Her bangs are slightly more defined, rather than being merged together.
    • The sides of her hair are asymmetrical.
    • Her hair appears to be longer in the back, extending to the bottom of her coat. Less parts of her twin tails are stuck together, as well.
  • The texture of her knees are more defined.
  • The emblem on her chest has a dot in the center that was removed. An odd removal, given this can still be seen in all her artwork.
  • There are no wrinkles on her coat underneath the knots in front.
  • The tassels on her hat simply end in a flat piece.
  • Her socks are missing the wrinkles at the bottom.

Kaedehara Kazuha

Playable as of v1.6. His overall design is the same, but with a few minor differences.

  • The wrapping on his right arm is left loose. His released version changed this to have it wrap further up his arm.
  • Less red highlights on the right side of his hair.
  • His ponytail is on the opposite side.
  • The wave on his right sleeve is simpler.
  • The pattern on the back of his scarf is thinner.
  • Some of the leaves on his clothes are positioned differently.
  • The rope carrying his Vision is much longer.

Mimi

Mimi is an earlier design of Sangonomiya Kokomi, who first appeared in v2.0 as an NPC, and became playable in v2.1.

While they share some similarities, Mimi's design is almost completely different.

  • Completely different outfit, though still aquatic-themed. Like Kokomi, her outfit has fish fins and a scallop on her back.
  • Shorter hairstyle and different hair ornaments.
  • Vision is on her waist instead of her chest, and appears to be mirrored horizontally.
  • Chest is larger.
  • More highlights in her eyes.
  • Her shorts are more simplistic.

Playable as of v1.0.

  • Only one of her legs is covered, leaving one of her butt cheeks just hanging out.
  • Less of her chest is covered.
  • Her leotard has less gold trim.
  • The patterns on her cape are smaller.

Noelle

Playable as of CBT2.

Qiqi

Playable as of v1.0.

  • Qiqi's face model is not yet aligned to the rest of her body, and spawns at the center of her feet. The below images are an approximation of how she would look without this error, and is not 100% accurate.
  • The ribbon on the back of her hair is much longer.

Rosaria

Hmmm...
To do:
Get renders of her model from v1.2 for a more accurate comparison. Her model was altered upon release to reduce her breast size.

First appeared in v1.2 as an NPC, and became playable in v1.4.

  • She is not wearing fishnets, and is wearing a white leotard underneath instead. (Skirt removed for visibility)
  • Her skirt is less split in the back.
  • Vision is larger.
  • The emblem on her left hip is larger.
  • The diamond patterns on her boots are not red.
  • Her chest is the same size as when she was introduced as an NPC in v1.2. Due to Chinese censorship, it was shrunk down in v1.4. On January 27, 2022, she was given an alternate outfit (which is now her default, and only outfit in China) that shrank it even more.

Shenhe

Playable as of v2.4. This iteration of Shenhe features an earlier design, almost as different as Mimi is to Kokomi.

  • She is classified as a claymore character, with her folder name being "avatar_lady_claymore_shenhe". She uses a polearm in the released version.
  • Very different outfit.
    • Prominent blue accents, instead of being mostly black.
    • The red ropes are much larger.
    • Her hip windows are covered up.
    • More of her chest is covered.
    • Different hair ornament.
    • Different pattern on the end of her sleeves.
    • Her earrings are not tied in a knot at the top.
  • Her hair is a little shorter, and simply tied at the end instead of braided.

Spelt as "Tohma" in this version. First appeared in v2.0 as an NPC, and became playable in v2.2.

  • His face has a cockier expression, compared to the softer look given to him in v2.0.
  • Different necklace. This was altered to dog tags in v2.0.
  • Lower-cut shirt, going further below his collarbone.
  • There are more wrinkles on the back of his jacket, and it is a little shorter.
  • The buttons are absent from the left side of his pants. His pants also appear to puff out more from his boots.
  • If you look closely, his abs are visible through his shirt.

  • Stitching is visible on her shawl.
  • The edges of her sleeves have simpler stripes.
  • Her tights have seams on the middle of her legs.
  • Her panties are visible through her tights. They were changed to not be visible in her released iteration, probably due to how much her skirt moves when she attacks. (Skirt removed for visibility)
