Included in the July 2020 Nintendo leak was a prototype of Super Aleste dated February 25, 1992. It can be found in NEWSテープリストア\NEWS_05\NEWS_05.tar.\home\kimura\games.lzh.
General Differences
- The intro, ending, and demo loops are not implemented.
- The high score display is different, defaulting to no points and the main menu uses a different font.

Menus
- The "Pad Test" option doesn't work.
- The "Trigger Setting" option doesn't have its own menu and there are only two configurations to choose from instead of four.
- The debug menu is here, and accessible as it is in the final version.
To do: Look into the in-game debug functions as well as the extra debug flag. |
Sounds
To do: Rip and compare. |
- Weapon pick-ups have different voice samples.
- Additionally, the prototype sound test only has samples 1-8, while the final has 1-15 and 0A-0F.
- Several sound effects are different, in particular effects 2-4, 6, 0C, 10, 23, 25, 27, and 2B.
- Sounds 1E, 1F, 20, 2C-2F, and 30-3F don't play.
- Music track 02 has slightly different percussion at the start.
Level Differences
To do: Any other level layout and/or gameplay differences? |
Areas 11 and 12 are both unfinished.
- Area 11 is extremely short and only features some power-ups and a different layout in general.
- Area 12 is missing most of the normal enemies, and the final boss doesn't seem to be properly implemented yet.
