RAID: World War II
RAID: World War II |
---|
Developer: Lion Game Lion[1] This game has unused code. This game has a prerelease article |
RAID: World War II is a four-player co-op shooter with some mechanics lifted from PAYDAY: The Heist and PAYDAY 2, in which you shoot down the German enemy horde with the aid of Aldsto-, er, I mean, Control.
To do: There's so much unused stuff!

Unused Graphics
Unused "rc" images
There are unused images for a lot of random things in the game whose names start with "rc_". It's unknown where they were supposed to be used.
Unused Reticles
A bunch of reticles, all of which go unused.
Unused Cubemaps
There's a lot of cubemaps (textures used for reflections) from PAYDAY 2 and PAYDAY: The Heist missions. Some show heists in their early development stages.
There are also a few cubemaps that show Raids in their early development stages:
Raid Name | Cubemap |
---|---|
Camp | |
Odin's Fall | |
Gold Rush | |
Amber Train | |
Strongpoint |
Unused Tab Screens
Tab screen was supposed to show a slightly transparent image of mission you are currently playing, but in the end it was scrapped. A lot of these pictures remain in the game.
Unused Loading Screens
Unused Icons
Icons used in the E3 2016 demo are still in the game files.
Unused bag icon.
Unused skull shield icon.
Placeholder for future raiders
Inside graphics for intel desk, there are two copies of official art of Sterling. They were used as placeholders for future possible raiders.
Unused bulletins John Cleese photos
In an already unused bulletins, that are talked about here in Unused Menus section, there are 10 unused photos of John Cleese and RAID logo.
Unused Weapons
Distraction Rock
To do: Can someone take screenshots of the model? |
Probably is an old version of Decoy coins, as coins use DistractionRock logic. Model for unused distraction rock itself can be found in units/vanilla/weapons/wpn_distraction_rock
Pick axe
Among other Steam stats that track number of kills you have with each weapon, there's melee_kills_pick_axe. There's no mention of Pick Axe anywhere in the code.
Unused Text
Unused Mission Objectives
To do: There is definitely more unused objectives. |
Berlin
In the released game, Berlin can only be roamed around during missions, but originally you could without any missions.
Name | Objective |
---|---|
obj_zone_nojob_report_desc | Go out to the city, roam the streets, gather random loot. |
obj_zone_mid_report_desc | Report to Mrs. White and report her operation progress. |
obj_zone_mid_report_hl | Get back to headquarters and report. |
obj_zone_nojob_report_hl | Raid. |
Camp
Name | Objective | Note |
---|---|---|
obj_camp_collect_reward_desc | Go to the Mission Table to Collect Reward. | There are no rewards you can collect at the Mission Table in released game. |
obj_camp_collect_reward_hl | Collect Your Reward | |
obj_camp_goto_tutorial_hl | Proceed to Tutorial | While not possible in vanilla, you can mod in an option to choose Tutorial as a Raid. |
Forest Convoy
Name | Objective | Note |
---|---|---|
obj_ger_forest_truckloot_destroyother_desc | Prevent the enemy from following you by wrecking all the other trucks. | |
obj_ger_forest_ambush_fightback_desc | The fire is blocking our way, wait for it to light off. | |
obj_ger_forest_ambush_fightback_hl | Wait for the fire to light off |
Unused Code
There's a lot of code from PAYDAY: The Heist and PAYDAY 2 that goes completely unused.
Throwable Ammo Bags
Located in lib/units/props/throwableammobag.lua there's code for throwable ammo bags. They have 3 levels of upgrades which would probably increase the amount of ammo stored in them. These ammo bags check for collissions with other players, so they were probably meant as a throwable to help your teammates out if they run out of ammunition.
Attempting to execute this code in released game will result in a crash, as unit it tries to load is missing.
Mission Regions
lib/tweak_data/operationstweakdata.lua defines three regions: Germany, France, and Africa. Only Germany is used.
Early Mission Regions
While in the released game every mission is set in Germany, internal name IDs of some missions imply they were set in other regions.
Mission Name | Early Region |
---|---|
Wiretap | Africa |
Strongpoint | Africa |
"Best of" awards's XP bonuses and loot values
"Best of" awards you get at the end of missions, like most headshots, or most specials killed, were originally meant to give XP bonuses and "loot values" (probably greed items progress), but this functionality goes unused.
Award | XP Bonus | Loot value | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Most kills | 50 | 20 | |
Most specials killed | 100 | 20 | |
Most accurate | 75 | 20 | |
Most headshots | 100 | 20 | |
Most downs | -50 | -20 | Goes unused as a "Best of" award, but has a copy as "Worst of" award |
Most revives | 100 | 20 |
"Worst of" awards don't have any bonuses or loot values.
Raider colors
In lib/tweak_data/tweakdata.lua every raider is assigned a unique color to color player names in chat and possibly other places, but these colors go unused as chat HUD simply ignores them and nothing else even asks for it.
Character | Color |
---|---|
Wolfgang | ███ |
Kurgan | ███ |
Rivet | ███ |
Sterling | ███ |
Team AI | ███ |
Unused Menus
There's a button and some assets for a Debug menu, but menu itself is not shipped with released game.
Button backgrounds for this menu
Checkboxes for this menu. Look similar to PAYDAY 2 checkboxes.
Intel desk
Intel Desk has 3 unused menus. Bulletins and Operational Status, major updates and patch notes respectively, are fully complete and can be re-enabled by simply adding back buttons to switch to them. Control Archive, on the other hand, is missing table where videos are defined, so it crashes when you switch to it.
Control Archive
Control Archive in Intel Desk would allow player to rewatch mission unlock cutscenes starring Control. All the functionality is still in the game, but table where videos are defined is missing. We can guess what was there based on unused strings.
String ID | Name | Possible video |
---|---|---|
control_archives_1 | Shove it! | movies/vanilla/mission_briefings/02_mission_brief_a2_cause-carnage_v005 |

Regional Differences
To do: Every texture with a Nazi swastika has a censored version with another symbol. |
Videos
Depending on whether you failed or succeeded in a mission, one of these rather humorous videos would play to reward/mock you. In the German version before August 16, 2022[4], these videos had all Nazi imagery and swastikas removed along with changing Hitler to have a comically massive mustache.
