Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure combines the beat-tapping enjoyment of Rhythm Heaven and stylish European vibes inspired by the Professor Layton franchise. While the idea was pulled off very well, it was sadly ignored by Sega which caused the game to be removed as a digital download option from the eShop in all regions except Europe.

On the root of the filesystem is a file called "00_readme.txt". Interestingly, the version and date text suggests that the game started development around 3 - 5 months after the reveal of the Nintendo 3DS at E3 2010. It contains the following:
