Super Black Bass Pocket was originally released in Japan with Super Game Boy support, then brought to the US as Super Black Bass by HOT-B as a monochrome Game Boy game. SGB support and battery save were removed entirely—the latter replaced with a password system—presumably so that the game could be released on a smaller, cheaper cartridge (512KB vs. the 1024KB original).

Sound Test

While on the boat, pause the game, press B seven times, and then un-pause for the Sound Test, which also has a volume setting.

Super Black Bass GB Debug Message.png

At the title screen, press Select, Up, Down, A, Left, Start. The message above will pop up when starting the game to confirm correct entry, and a handful of debug screens/menus can now be accessed during gameplay by holding Select and pressing one of the buttons below:

Button Function
A Super Black Bass GB Debug Status.png
View the status of the current game.
B Fast forwards the game as long as the button is held.
Up Super Black Bass GB Fish Select.png
Select what fish are able to be caught in the current area.
Down Super Black Bass GB Debug Options.png
Debug options menu, with map select, sound test, message test, and weather toggle options.
Left Super Black Bass GB Debug Catch.png
Debug fish catching menu. Fish can be caught either by setting the parameters or at random.
Right Super Black Bass GB Debug Bait.png
Debug bait menu. Can toggle how many of each type of bait the player has.

Unfortunately, the debug menus (with the exception of the sound test) weren't translated for the English release (perhaps the localization team was unaware of their existence?).
