This is a sub-page of Super Mario Galaxy 2.

Unused Textures

Unused Dialogue Symbols

Four symbols from the first game are still present in the file that contains the dialog symbols. This includes coconuts, blue Star Chips, and two question marks: white and green.

Super Mario World 'P' Balloon Fruit

P.

This texture is bundled with the Blimp Fruit's model but never used. The Power Balloon in Super Mario World is marked with a P as well, and grants Mario the same temporary power. The other fruits lack any similar textures.

Chance Cube X & O

Wrong!Right!

These textures are bundled with ItemDice, but are never used. Compared to the final textures, they are very simplistic.

Storybook Frame Dummy Textures

The storybook frame used in the game's prologue has two placeholder dummy textures for the content within the frame - one for the contents of the current page, and one for the contents of the next page. As the game fills the frame with the current camera view or a static snapshot of said camera view between transitions, these are never seen.

Duplicate Starship Mario Texture

SMG2-MarioPlanet2Duplicate.png

In the credits of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Starship Mario makes three total appearances. The first instance of Starship Mario uses a texture named MarioPlanet.2, but strangely enough, this specific texture is duplicated in the model archive. While the first instance of MarioPlanet.2 is used, the second one is not.

Unseen Texture Attributes

Hmmm...
To do:
More shader oddities: 1, 2,

Super Mario World Block Snake Colors

Grr! I am a snake.

The texture for the block snake reveals that it was originally intended to be brown, like its appearance Super Mario World. The game uses shaders to make it appear purple.

Rightside Down Galaxy's Starting Planet Colors

Hmmm...
To do:
This seems to be just a common colouring method, not an unused attribute.

SMG2RightsideDownStartingPlanet.png

Although it appears quite colorful in-game, the starting planet seen in Rightside Down Galaxy hardly sports any color at all. The game uses shaders to give it its colors.

Sweet Mystery Galaxy Planet Colors

SMG2-MysteryCandyPlanetColors.png

The MysteryCandyPlanet planet found in Sweet Mystery Galaxy appears pink and red in-game, but this is thanks to material shaders. Viewing the model without material shaders reveals a wildly different color scheme, and a somewhat different texture design.

UV Wrap Grid in Elite Octoomba Texture

The texture for the Elite Octoomba has a leftover UV wrap grid in the empty spaces between the textures. The same is true for normal Octoombas too, as Elite Octoombas use a recolored version of their texture.

Unseen Kanji In Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet Texture

SMG-BGGKanji.png

The texture used for the spiked fences in Bowser's Gravity Gauntlet features two unseen Japanese kanji; the formal numeral kanji for 1 (壱) and 3 (参).
