Unused Music in Genesis version?

The password sound test in the Genesis version has a few tracks that I'm pretty sure aren't used anywhere. SUPER PAC-MAN (track 1) is a glitchy duplicate of the title splash theme. FRAGILE-1 (track 40) is an alternate opening for the track that plays when Pac-Man breaks the giant glass tube in the factory. There's also a few duplicate tracks (BANG! 19 and RUBBER BALLOON 20). --AndyNPC 23:48, 12 October 2012 (EDT)

Track 1 is the track used when introducing Super Pac-Man in the intro in the SNES version(though as you stated this seems to be removed in the Genesis port). FRAGILE-2 is used on the glass tube, while FRAGILE-1 is used on the line of science equipment on the other side of that area(once again, in the SNES version). West (talk) 21:47, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

Unused stuff I'm not confident to add

Music

  • The only difference between Track 19(Bang!) and Track 20(Rubber Balloon) is a subtlety in the popping sound effect. Trying to find the exact location of either track would be insane.

Update: Could be wrong but Track 19 is used when popping Pac-Man's balloon in Fountain Way. Track 20 is used when popping the balloon that goes past the mountain summit.

  • Track 21 (What?!): This is just a compilation of the suspense sting, the balloon pop, and a sped-up version of "I Won't Be Long"(metropolis theme). I don't think there's any situation where this actually happens involving a balloon in the final game.
  • Track 49 (You Lost): A far more sinister version of "Bye! Bye!", the usual "death" inward eyecatch. I have never heard this while fighting the final boss, but I've never really fought him often because he has a really simple pattern and is a pain in the ass to actually beat. Usually when you die here it just does the inward eyecatch with no accompanied music, preferring to play "Teach Pac A Lesson" to the end.
  • Although not unused, the track used in the intro for Episode 3, a variant of Track 43(Ghost), doesn't appear in the sound test.

Will add more questionable stuff to this space once I'm through clearing the debug pattern test. Might add some of this and the exposition of the Debug and Normal Pattern Tests onto a Notes page. West (talk) 19:59, 15 March 2014 (EDT)

Due to the nature of the Pattern Tests and somewhat cloudy interpretation of what could be considered "unused" in them I'll probably just arrange a massive table and throw it onto a notes page. Might take awhile, though. West (talk) 08:21, 16 March 2014 (EDT)

"Secret" area

I've been playing around a bit with the "secret" room from PAR code 7E050203. It isn't always a glitched mess when you enter it, the state it's in depends on how you entered the room. If you enter it by leaving Pac-Man's house or from the left side exit of Stock Farm then it will behave exactly like outside Pac-Man's house normally does except it will be called "ひみつ" in the Japanese ROM. Entering the room from any right side exit will put you in the unplayable glitched version shown in the article. Entering from any left side exit other than Stock Farm will get you another glitchy copy of outside Pac-Man's house, but this one you can walk in pic. It extends too far to the right which allows you to see some strange broken tile layouts pic, but it's mostly normal to the left of Pac-Man's house. There are no objects in the level and walking off either the left or right sides will cause Pac-Man to fall to his death. There is one exit, however. If you tell Pac-Man to turn around while standing inside of the left gate pic then he'll be warped to the left side of Stock Farm.

Using the 7E0502XX code to enter other rooms in ways you can't normally may also cause them to behave strangely like this one does. I believe the "secret" room really is just a clone of outside Pac-Man's house and the other two versions are just products of the forced warp setting wrong parameters. Although it's still interesting how it works properly when entered from the left side of the farm but not from the right side of the neighborhood. Perhaps this is an older version of Pac-Man's house using some older warp code. --AndyNPC (talk) 16:49, 29 May 2015 (EDT)
