Anti-Piracy

Is it possible that the Pokeballs spinning at the start of the battle was just one of the instances that the game will crash/freeze/hang as one anti-piracy scheme altogether? Because there are many instances in which people had trouble getting a HG/SS ROM to work because the game would freeze randomly, or wouldn't even work. Nowadays, the posted ROMs are all pre-patched and fixed and you can't find one that will freeze/crash/hang. Spiritix 00:19, 14 November 2012 (EST)

I definitely think there's more AP techniques than this. If its true that the "Spinning Balls of Death" were triggered by AP, then WHY does it trigger then? You don't see Picnicker Liz until about 1-2 hours in, if not more. There's more in there, we just need to find it. I will say though, this certainly wasn't a random freeze, the music is still playing. Normally, either the music would stop or play the same note repeatedly, not continue playing the song as if nothing happened. Its also possible that the Pokemon data somehow became corrupted, and the game didn't know what to do. Tehkapi 06:05, 14 December 2012 (EST)
Briefly discussed (in regards to a different game) here. In short, by putting the anti-piracy 1-2 hours into the game, it forces the crackers to play those 1-2 hours each time they try to disable the protection. EdwardTohr 06:55, 14 December 2012 (EST)

Music

So... I kind of discovered HG/SS have copies of music tracks, unused 8-bit versions of music tracks, and the /entire/ Diamond and Pearl soundtrack, and I was wondering if the 8-bit versions of the Wifi Tower and Title Screen play anywhere. supershadow64ds 7 April 2014

The Global Terminal's GB Sounds version is used, as a small Easter egg from the developers (their likenesses in Celadon Condominiums hint at this). The GS Title Screen music could be used by the Pokégear Radio. --AquaBat (talk) 15:38, 7 April 2014 (EDT)

Lock Capsule

This guy managed to get the Lock Capsule into his game via wondercard and actually successfully relocate it to BW (I'm gonna guess the reason it didn't work before was due to it being hacked into the bag rather than gotten properly via wondercard). I've no idea if it ever even went to the bag, despite having a bag sprite for HGSS that looks nothing like the BW bag sprite (which is what we have on this page; Bulbapedia has the HGSS bag sprite). Meanwhile the HGSS wondercard sprite just looks like a larger version of the BW sprite... makes me wonder if the HGSS bag sprite is a double-unused old design. Old pokegear/Kris in HGSS?

There appears to be some old pokegear data and what seems to be Kris left over in the game.http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Talk:Kris_(game)#Kris_originally_in_HGSS--Pokecat (talk) 19:40, 25 January 2015 (EST)

Map Weirdness

Is it worth noting that the National Park map has a space at the west edge where the bug catching contest NPCs are stored when a contest isn't running? Not sure if other maps do that, or if it happens in both versions, but I thought it was interesting. Mesouse (talk) 02:18, 30 August 2018 (EDT)

Lock Capsule event recording

I think this might be worth including under the Lock Capsule section. I recently spent made a YouTube video showing the Lock Capsule event in its entirety, as well as instructions on how it can be opened. This appears to be the only recording of the event ever filmed, as far as I can tell. It took me approximately 150 hours to produce the video, so the quality is good, and I also thank TCRF specifically in the video, as it was y'all wiki that helped aid me in the video's production. Btw, the guy who commented above on this Discussion page linked to a forum post by Pikachu25 that included photos of him completing the event. This forum post was shown towards the end of the YT video.

Here's a link to the YouTube video showing the Lock Capsule event being completed, I'll leave it up to the mods' judgement whether this belongs on the main page: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ignZ44-k3L8

Note: I posted a message similar to this one in the Pokemon Black & White discussion page as well since it's a cross-generational event involving both sets of games. Not sure if it was proper for me to post this under both games' discussion pages -- hope I'm not being spammy here. If I am, please delete one of them at your discretion. Cheers.

The ToDo notice.

I've edited the confusing ToDo notice to make it less so. Previously, it read thus:

  • Erm...The heroes from Platinum exist in the game since cheat codes allow them to appear. This whole section should be revised to accurately specify what Platinum content is really missing.

That phrasing made it sound like it was saying that some of the leftover dummy content from D/P/Pt was there because it was meant to be activated by cheat codes, which is untrue. However, and this is just my lack of familiarity with the game files talkin' here... DO the sprites of the Platinum protags still exist in the code? As distinguished from the sprites from Diamond and Pearl? Because those sprites look different, and I don't recall if that was just a palette swap or if there was an actual change to the pixel artwork involved. The article as-written seems to be implying that only the Diamond and Pearl versions are present. What's actually going on here? Does anyone know what SatoMew was talking about?--Lily Von Pseudonym (talk) 20:48, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

Music identifiers

It's known that the Mystery Zone plays the music for Route 29. It turns out this track, SEQ_GS_R_1_29 at offset 0x6D41C0, doesn't seem to be duplicated but is pointed to by several different other names, including but potentially not limited to: SEQ_DUMMY, SEQ_TEST_TITLE, SEQ_GS_TITLE01, SEQ_GS_OPENING_TITLE_G, SEQ_GS_OPENING_TITLE_S. That offset is placed before all other music in the ROM, implying this could be the default for invalid or deleted songs. This SEQ_DUMMY and SEQ_TEST_TITLE are not to be confused with the identically named versions left over intact from D/P. Kelario27 (talk) 19:10, 28 December 2022 (UTC)

Learning Head Smash to Nosepass using the Rage Glitch

In the Gen IV games, the move Rage has an issue where if a transformed Pokémon uses it, then uses another move, their moveset will be replaced by the one of the Pokémon they used Transform on. By exploiting this and the fact that Ditto can pass down egg moves if learned this way, Nosepass can learn Head Smash if you learn Rage and Head Smash to a Smeargle, let a Ditto copy Smeargle and enable the Rage Glitch to copy Smeargle's moveset, and then use the Ditto with a Nosepass at the Day Care to pass on Head Smash. Is it worth to mention this possibility on the article, or is it considered as an exploit of a bug that was never intended by the developers? Carbonara (talk) 19:52, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
