This is a sub-page of The Sims 2 (Windows).

Hmmm...
To do:
Cover

It's notorious that The Sims 2 is full of unusual oddities lurking in and outside the files. Hidden Pre-made Sim content, (like Aspirations, Interests etc.) won't be covered here.

Internal Filename Oddities

Base Game

  • The texture files for The Kinder Kontainer baby crib in the Base Game is referred to as cribcheap, despite it being the only available crib in the game. FreeTime would introduce a more expensive crib.
  • The texture file for the Trottco 27" Multi7iVid IV Television is called tvmoderate-tv0, despite it being the cheapest television available in the game and its expansions.
  • The texture file for the Eclectic and Enigmatic Energizer is called memoryexchanger-texture0_lifo, but the reward fulfils motives rather than exchange memories with other Sims.

Expansion/Stuff Packs

  • In Open For Business, the blue and red colorations for the Quick Display by Sims Club Merchandise and Abiding Elegance by Durabliss are referred to displaypedestalshorteuro-ep2darkgreen and displaypedestalshorteuro-ep2darkred, implying they were meant to appear in Nightlife according to the internal name.
  • Introduced in Happy Holiday Stuff, the texture file for the Li'l Chimera's Plush Bunny-Bear is called bunnybear-clean, suggesting that an aged version of the object was planned like it's base game counterpart.
  • In Seasons, both the Small Roll-O-Rama Rink and Large Roll-O-Rama Rink, and Small Ice Cap Skating Rink and Large Ice Cap Skating rink use the rinkrollersmall-wood-plain0 and rinkicesmall-ice-plain0 textures, in both sizes.
  • The texture for the Mountain Man's Mountain Lighter introduced in Bon Voyage is called lightingfloormountain-shade-mountain-lit/unlit, despite the pattern of the lampshade having a tree and a moose.
  • The Old Bone introduced in Bon Voyage is actually a reskinned The Chewinator By ChompCo from Pets, which is called pettoychewwhite-surface_txtr even though its treated as a separate object. It still behaves like a chew toy if Pets is installed with a Dog on the lot.
  • The Branched Trunk by Log Creations in Bon Voyage is internally named windowmountain2story, suggesting that it was originally intended to be a double-storey-sized window.
  • The "TalkTime Phonality with Mounting Bracket" and "TalkTime Phonality" introduced with FreeTime shares the same naming style as the furniture in Teen Style Stuff, where the texture filename for the object is called phoneteenwall-phone and phoneteencounter-phone, suggesting that the item was likely planned for that Stuff Pack.
  • The soccer outfits introduced in FreeTime are referred to as bodyworldcupep7, referencing the soccer kits that were originally available for download on the official website, and to coincide with the 2006 World Cup.
  • The purple-and-white exercise outfit introduced in Apartment Life is referred to as afbodyexerciseep7-pink, with ep7 meaning FreeTime, suggesting it was going to appear there instead.
  • The black leather jacket and jeans with a red shirt introduced in Apartment Life is called ambodyrockstarep5-red, with ep5 meaning Seasons, referencing the Music Career.

Sim Oddities

  • In the file for the Strangetown Sims (N002), Vidcund Curious is placed next to the first (Matthew Gibson) and third Sims, whom are premade headmasters. This is because that Sims were originally Pascal and Lazlo before they got deleted during development.
  • The Birth Queen Sims have 38 days remaining in the Life Stage, compared to the regular length.

Lot oddities

Odd Object Values

Hmmm...
To do:
There's way more, even on University lots.

Several objects at 290 Main Street in Pleasantview have wildly inflated costs compared to what they normally cost ingame. Strangely, one single object has a wildly deflated cost instead. Below is a table showing the differences in cost:

Name of object Lot Price Buy Mode Price Screenshot Notes
"Food Shrine" Commercial Display Freezer §5,000 §1,500 The-Sims-2-Food-Shrine-High-Cost.png
Imperial Plumbing Pole-Air Freezer Bin §3,000 §1,000 The-Sims-2-Imperial-Plumbing-High-Cost.png

Enterprise Office Freestanding Game Rack §45 §2,000 The-Sims-2-Game-Rack-Low-Cost.png The cost of rack in the store is much lower than in Buy mode.

Duplicate object

The lot 431 Globe Street in Veronaville has two pinball machines placed in the exact same spot, which can cause routing issues.

Miscellaneous Oddities

Hmmm...
To do:
If this gets crammed, find a way to arrange this.
  • The bus_INTRO.movie and bus_P1LOSE.movie video files for The Sims Bustin' Out game oddly has unfiltered audio in comparison to other video game and TV/Computer files.
bus_INTRO.movie bus_P1LOSE.movie
  • In the video games introduced with the FreeTime expansion, all the P1Lose.movie and P2win.movie video files, along with the P1Win.movie and P2Lose.movie are duplicated, with the exception of The Sims 3, which all use the same video file except for the attract and intro movies. The Intro movies are also muted for some reason, along with the Attract movie for FIFA 07.
  • The wardrobe in the Specter Household contains the Social Worker outfit, which cannot be obtained under normal circumstances. It's also normally unseen due to the outfit being made for Adult Female Sims only, unless if a Sim in that Life Stage lives in the household and can be used as a regular everyday outfit. The reasoning for its existence is because that it was originally a regular outfit during development.

  • In the base game, there are no Miscellaneous objects available in the Plumbing section. Even with all Expansions, Stuff Packs and official downloads from Maxis installed, no objects fill that section.
TS2MissingMiscPlumbing.png
  • There are unusual collection graphics that represent the expansion-themed destinations in The Sims, even though a magic or fame-themed expansion was never released for the game. Whether it is there for the reason explained, for the sake of a callback is unknown.

Fireplace Name Change

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Move this to Revisional Differences?
  • Are there more oddities?
  • Get the English name of the fireplace!

With the official Russian version of the game after the release of Kitchen & Bath Interior Design Stuff, the name of a fireplace was changed. However the original name can still be seen in-game, as it is placed in the dining room of 215 Sim Lane in Pleasantview, a lot occupied by the Pleasant Family by default.

The Russian version of The Sims: Life Stories also has a same difference in the names of the fireplace.
