The Walking Dead: Season Two/Episode 1: All That Remains

From The Cutting Room Floor

This is a sub-page of The Walking Dead: Season Two.

This page houses all of the unused dialogue, models, etc. from Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 2's first episode, All That Remains.

Hmmm...
To do:
  • Add more images.
  • Image for the Dead Rabbit.
  • Correct naming of files
  • Add Voice Lines
  • Add UI Elements from cut fishing scene
  • Better formatting

Unused Models

Dead rabbit

Originally, Sam the dog was going to be feasting on a maggot infested rabbit, making Clementine's dog bite more concerning than in the final game. This is actually the same model seen at the beginning of "Starved For Help" from the first season of The Walking Dead. Unused audio also exists related to what Sam was eating.

Unused Content

Cut fishing Scene

There is physical evidence about her statements of a cut fishing sequence in the code of the game. In the BackwoodsStream.lua file, you can still find all of the leftover programming for the fishing scene:

Clementine's unused hat animations

QTE sequence of Clementine trying to get her hat back from Sam. She would lose her hat by going up the high trail route in the woods

Unused Music

This track could be mistaken for the music that plays in the beginning of the game when you are at the truck stop with Omid and Christa, but it's actually a different version of the song that most likely would have played during the cut fishing scene near the end of All That Remains. The song itself is called All That Remains, and we know this and its most likely placement in the story thanks to the official Season 2 album release by series composer Jared Emerson-Johnson, who was gracious enough to put all of the songs in chronological order.

Unused Dialogue

Truck Stop Bathroom

Omid has some unused voice lines where he announces himself before entering the restroom where he inevitably meets his demise. In the final game, Omid is completely silent, until the closing door spooks Michelle. The last line cuts off suddenly, due to him getting shot mid-sentence. Subtitles for this segment are located in the file env_truckstopbathroom_english.landb.

Speaker Subtitles File Notes
Omid Clementine?
Omid Everything ok?

Clearing with Christa

Subtitles for this segment are located in the file env_clearingcampfire_english.landb.

Ralph, one of the scavengers attacking Christa at the start of the episode has an unused line from when they first encountered her. A note attached to this line also implies that Ralph was meant to raise his hand while saying it.

Speaker Subtitles File
Ralph No one needs to get hurt... Yet

There's also a file labeled NV_Ralph_Hit_Ground_03. This would've been used when Ralph accidentally got shot in the face by Victor, a fellow scavenger, resulting in a wound on his cheek/ear. He would later reappear in the story with half of his ear missing and a wound on his cheek, and Clementine would be hesitant to trust him because of what happened with Christa in the woods. This idea was later dropped, but Ralph would've originally taken Mike's role.

Audio Description
"Sound of Ralph hitting the floor"

Quite an interesting subtitle meant for Christa. While the attached voice file, numbered 358683992, can't actually be found in the files, its existence implies that Christa might've gotten a more clear death scene at one point.

Speaker Subtitles
Christa [screaming before getting shot]

A line for Ralph when Winston starts chasing Clementine.

Speaker Subtitles File
Ralph God dammit! Winston, don't let her get away!

River Shore

Subtitles for this segment are stored in the file env_rivershore_english.land.

Clementine has unused dialogue regarding Sam taking her hat. The inclusion of the lines in this segment, as well as some of the lines themselves, imply that Clementine was supposed to spend some more time with Sam.

Speaker Subtitles File Notes
Clementine Mind if I take my hat back?
Clementine I wonder where he got my hat?
Clementine Please don't hurt me, ok? I just want my hat back and then I'll go.

Clementine has a unused line related to the maggot-infested rabbit, it would have played when you first met Sam.

Speaker Subtitles File Notes
Clementine Must have been something to eat out here, huh? Where'd you get food?

Backwoods Stream

Subtitles for this segment are stored in the file env_backwoodsstream_english.land.

Clementine has an alternate line for when she discovers Victor, the scavenger, to be still alive among the corpses at the stream.

Speaker Subtitles File Notes
Clementine You were in the woods.
Slightly different. The final line is "You were in the woods with Christa."

Victor himself has subtitles for two unused lines, though those themselves no longer can be found in the files.

Speaker Subtitles
Victor Oh Jesus... Jesus, please...
Victor Oh god...

Before Victor passes away at the stream, Clementine demands him to tell her about Christa. Victor never answers, but originally, Clem was to have two more lines, coming to her own conclusions after she says "The woman I was with. What happened to her?"

Speaker Subtitles File Notes
Clementine Please. Tell me. TELL ME!
Delivery note reads [pleading, intimate].
Clementine She's dead. She's dead, isn't she.
Delivery note reads [horrified as it sinks in].

Reused Models and Textures

The flashback featuring a pregnant Christa and Omid traveling with Clementine was originally meant to appear in the next episode. Suspiciously, all characters that appear in this flashback have their textures taken from elsewhere, whereas everyone appearing outside of this particular flashback has their own unique textures.

Michelle

Michelle is the random bandit responsible for Omid's death. Being the only new character that wasn't originally envisioned to appear in this episode, Michelle was stitched together from altered pre-existing assets, the only character with this quirk in the episode. Her head texture is derived from Sarah's and features the exact same eyes, ears, hands and lips. Her eyebrows and hair were redone, and the tone of her skin, lips, and eyes was altered. She was also made to look dirty.

Sarah Michelle

Her hair texture and model get reused from Victor, the scavenger. The texture is almost identical, only slightly thicker, and generally darker. The head skin was also made darker to accomodate for Michelle's complexion.

Victor Michelle

Michelle didn't get a unique outfit and instead just uses a recolor of Christa's body texture.

Christa Michelle

Omid

Omid was also not meant to be present in this episode. As such, it seems that he didn't get his own unique design and instead had to reuse Carlos' body texture.

Christa

The final person that wasn't meant to be present yet is Christa, at least her pregnant version. The flashback with her alone in the woods with Clem was meant to appear, but the flashback with her and Omid was meant for episode two, as can be seen in the filename for her texture, christa202Pregnant_body. "202" referring to "Season 2, Episode 2". This results in Christa's pregnant body texture being copied over from Rebecca, as can be seen by the fact that Christa's shoe textures have just been pasted over Rebecca's which were already present.

Clementine

Clementine wears a recolor of her hoody outfit from Season One during this flashback. Comparing the textures shows just how different the artstyles between seasons are, as Season Two features way less sharp line shading on clothing and characters. Generally, the texture hasn't changed much, but the wording has been removed and the coloration tweaked.
