Debug Menu

Toystorynesdebugscreen.png

Game Genie code EVUEIAEG will enable a debug menu after reset. Up and Down move the cursor, while Left and Right change the value. B and A increase and decrease the value by 10, respectively.

  • RUN GAME - Starts the game; changing the value changes the level the player starts on.
  • MUSIC TEST - Plays a music track upon pressing Start.
  • SOUND EFFECT - Plays a sound effect upon pressing Start.
  • LEVEL MAP TEST - Allows you to look at the level layouts, but the coordinates at the top of the screen are glitched out.
  • DEMO LEVEL - Plays the first game demo, regardless of which number you choose.
  • NNN - There are two of these, neither of which function.

Right before the menu opens, a copyright message saying "FC SYSTEM (C) COPYRIGHT" and a blinking string saying "LIBARY READY" (a typo of "LIBRARY READY") will appear for a couple of seconds. There's also "EI-HOW YANG", but it's colored the same as the background.

Functionally, the menu is almost identical to Super Donkey Kong and Pocohontos, which were also done by Ei-How Yang. Interestingly, unlike either of those games, the Level Map Test in Toy Story actually works.

Invisible Text

In level 5, there is some text on the gas pumps that is normally colored the same as the background. Editing the palette, you can see what the text actually says:

HBUSHIDOBLADE
HBUSHIDOI
HIHIHIHBUSHIDOI

It can only be presumed that this is meant to be a reference to the PlayStation game Bushido Blade which was published in March, 1997.

A speech bubble with the word "Safe" in it, No clue where it might have been used.

While this sign is used in the game, it's obscured by the camera. You can see it while in the map viewer (see above).
