This page details bugs of Sonic Colors: Ultimate.

Sonic Colors: Ultimate was released in a messy state. Although Sonic fans blew the state of the game hilariously out of proportion (most critics didn't even notice bugs), it was still far glitchier than the original Wii version was at launch. Most bugs have since been patched out.

Starlight Carnival Act 3 Bug

Sonic's animation at the beginning of Starlight Carnival Act 3 is bugged. Sonic falls far slower than he does in the Wii version, and his startup animation begins before he even touches the ground.

60 FPS Bugs

The Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions have a few bugs that arise from the bump to 60 FPS:

  • In Starlight Carnival Act 6, the timer always runs out on the timed Light Speed Dash ring trails before the player can actually finish collecting the rings.
  • In Planet Wisp Act 1, the spring that shoots Sonic onto the Quick Step section at the beginning of the level always directs him to the rightmost path when he should be in the center.
  • In Aquarium Park Act 1, Sonic has some difficulty getting through the opening loop.

These bugs will also happen in the Wii version if the framerate cap is removed (such as through Action Replay).

Note that these glitches do not happen in the Switch version, as it's still 30 FPS.

Unlimited Colors

In the Switch version, due to the game not clearing texture memory in stages correctly, the game will attempt to load both the previous and current stage textures. This ends up causing rapid flashing that could result in a seizure.

This was fixed in a Switch-exclusive patch released on September 14, 2021.
