SOMETIMES I SEE A TEXT BOX AND I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSSDFGFFDHFGDJGGFSHGDFH
This page sucks.
If you could make it suck less, that would be awesome.
Specifically: Here's a list of why:
  • All of the models shown in this page are in really low-quality JPEGs.
  • There are videos on this page for content that does not need to be videos, but instead screenshots.
  • This page is very incomplete.
  • Finish uploading individual voice lines for boss characters.

Dead Rising is an open-world survival horror game, where photojournalist Frank West needs to survive a zombie-infested shopping mall. However, due to his surroundings, his arsenal is nearly unlimited.

Hmmm...
To do:
Loads.
  • Document the early version (source), the many different prototypes (source), and the demo version (source).
  • The US box has many pre-release images (source).
  • YouTuber STiP0 has many videos documenting early versions of the game, as well as unused weapons (source).

Unused Dialogue

Between Case 5-2 and Case 6-1

There's unused dialogue strings for Otis, Brad, Jessie, and Isabella that, originally, may have been used a few in-game minutes before Case 6-1 starts for alternative dialogue leading up to Isabella's DHS interrogation, although the game never sets campaign progress to an appropriate value for these to be used. This scene may have been left unfinished due to Isabella and Barnaby having dialogue related to this scene, but their models are not placed in the Security Room to have it accessible. While dialogue for Barnaby is the same from prior to Case 6-1 starting, Isabella's is unique to this unused scenario.

Between Case 6-1 and Case 7-1

There is an unused string of text after Barnaby's zombification cutscene plays, which was meant to be accessed by inspecting / "talking" to his corpse on the floor after Case 6-1. However, the final game does not allow inspecting / talking to it. This line would be used in the Wii remake, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop, in its intended scenario.

Unused Audio

There are voice lines for Frank, and some bosses that either go unused, may happen too far away from the camera for a player to hear them, or are cut short by a cutscene loading. Some voice lines that went unused in the 360 version (and the 10th anniversary ports) were used in Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop.

Unused Music

Audio Notes
A small loop, similar to that of a used track named Army that plays during the boss fight with the tank, but is missing some instrumentation from the full song. This track is, however, used in Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop during the sniper family boss, which has no unique music in the 360 version.

Unused Voicelines

Audio Character Notes
Frank West "Stop!"
Frank West "What the hell are you doing?!"
Steven Chapman "I don't allow vandalism here!"
Steven Chapman "Get your hands off my stuff!"
Steven Chapman "This is my store, dammit!"
Steven Chapman "You won't get away with this!"
Steven Chapman "My store... my beautiful store..."
Steven Chapman "Welcome to our fine shop!"
Steven Chapman "We've got everything you need!"
Steven Chapman "We've slllllashed our prices!"
Steven Chapman "Guaranteed fresh or your money back!"

Unused Models

Other Unused Models

Unused Code

There are multiple cut features, some being for testing, includingː

  • Widescreen bars.
  • Test string.
  • Demo pause screen.
  • Force game to end.
  • Cut stage transition screens.
  • Force all cases to fail.

Unused Animations

Sprinting Animation

There is an unused animation that was meant for sprinting. It also might have been used for wearing all pieces of the Mega Man outfit similar to Off The Record.

Beta Zombie Animations

There are a ton of zombie animations that are from TGS.

Special Forces Health Bar

There was supposed to be a health bar for the Special Forces that was cut probably due to the other enemies not having health bars and it being pointless.

Unused Cutscene

There is an unused cutscene that was most likely meant to play if Frank dies after Isabella finds Carlito's hideout. Similar to the beginning of the game where if you died from the zombies Otis would save Frank.

Regional Differences

Hmmm...
To do:
Get images.

European Version

  • Inside the shop "In the Closet" (Entrance Plaza) you can wear a t-shirt that in the US version shows a topless woman. In the European version she's wearing a bikini.
  • A painting which you can find inside the shop "Casual Gals" near the changing room (Wonderland Plaza) is also censored. The woman is nude in the US version while she's wearing a white dress in the European version.

Japanese Version

The Japanese version includes all the censorship from the European version and adds onto it. Examples include:

  • All traces of dismemberment are removed.
  • Many traces of blood are removed.
