Unused Badges
This game contains several unused badges in various stages of completion. Use the following Gecko code to overwrite Badge #1 with the given badge. The code also checks to see if the badge ID is valid.
$Set First Badge C0000000 00000007 9421FFF0 BFA10008 83EDxxxx 2C1F0000 41820018 3BC00zzz 3BBEFF10 281D0062 41810008 B3DF01FA BBA10008 38210010 4E800020 00000000 xxxx = 1BE0 (US), 1680 (JP), 1CC0 (EU) zzz = Badge Id (Decimal values 240 - 338)(Hex values 0F0 - 152)
Debug Badge
Badge ID: 014B
Item Name: Invalid Item
Description: このメッセージが 見れるのは おかしいよ (It's strange that you can see this message)
Badge Points: 1
Selling Price: 50 Coins
Wearing this badge enables the following features in Battle:
- Mario and his partner always perform the action command perfectly. They will also perform all Stylish Moves.
- Mario and his partner will Superguard against all attacks.
- The Run meter will fill by itself.
Warning: When this badge is equipped, Power Bounce will continue until reaching the targeted enemy's soft cap of bounces. For bosses this is around 5-9 bounces, but for normal enemies this is 9999 bounces.
In the Japanese version of the game, it's possible for this item to appear in the player's inventory if they have more than 10 items when the Strange Sack is removed from the player's inventory when they open the blue cage door in the Great Tree.
Paper Mario Badges
Badges based on ones from the first Paper Mario game. Most of these were made redundant with the badge stacking system.
Mega Jump
Badge ID: 014C
Item Name: Invalid Item
Description: Invalid Item
Badge Points: 3
Selling Price: 5 Coins
Allows Mario to perform a jump attack (also named Invalid Item) for 6 FP. This attack does ((Jump Power x 2) + 4) damage to one enemy. This badge can also be stacked. Each additional copy doubles the FP cost and increases the attack power by 4. The attack animation is identical to Power Jump and has the same Stylish Move.
Mega Quake
Badge ID: 014E
Item Name: Invalid Item
Description: Invalid Item
Badge Points: 4
Selling Price: 5 Coins
Allows Mario to perform a hammer attack (also named Invalid Item) for 7 FP. This attack does 10 piercing damage to all grounded enemies. This badge can also be stacked. Each additional copy doubles the FP cost and increases the attack power by 4. The attack animation is nearly identical to Quake Hammer, but the Action Command is faster and there are no Stylish Moves. There is also a slight visual bug. Mario will be holding the correct Hammer as he jumps up, but on the way back down his Hammer temporarily changes:
- If Mario has the normal Hammer, he will be holding the Ultra Hammer.
- If Mario has the Super Hammer, he will be holding the normal Hammer.
- If Mario has the Ultra Hammer, he will be holding the Super Hammer.
Mega Smash

Item Name: Invalid Item
Description: Invalid Item
Badge Points: 1
Selling Price: 5 Coins
Allows Mario to perform a hammer attack (also named Invalid Item) for 6 FP. This attack does (Hammer Power + 4) damage to one enemy. This badge can also be stacked. No function, though unlike the other invalid badges, this does not sell for 5 Coins. Possibly related to the Damage Dodge badge, due to design similarities.
Unknown Badge 1 P
Badge ID: 0150
Item Name: Invalid Item

Unknown Badge 2
Badge ID: 0151
Item Name: Invalid Item
Description: Invalid Item
Badge Points: 2
Selling Price: 5 Coins
Allows Mario to perform Super Charge for 2 FP. This move is identical to Charge, giving a +2 to Attack. Super Charge has no description on the battle menu.
Unknown Badge 2 P

Unknown Badge 3
Whatever this badge was supposed to be, it was never coded.
Unused Important Items
Key items that weren't used. Use the following Gecko code to place the given item in the first key item slot. The code also checks to see if the key item ID is valid.
#Set First Important Item C0000000 00000008 9421FFF0 BFA10008 83EDxxxx 2C1F0000 4182001C 3BC000zz 2C1E0057 41820010 281E0078 41810008 B3DF00A0 BBA10008 38210010 4E800020 60000000 00000000 xxxx = 1BE0 (US), 1680 (JP), 1CC0 (EU) zz = Item Id (Decimal values 0 - 120)(Hex values 00 - 78)
Blue Paper
Invalid Item |
Invalid Item |
Item ID: 0054
Unused blue documents. A yellow version of this image is used for the Goldbob's Guide item.
Magical Map
Magical Map |
A map from Princess Peach. It locates the Crystal Stars. |
Item ID: 0032
While the Magical Map is always in Mario's possession, it's not stored as an item in the final game.
Mario Poster
Invalid Item |
Invalid Item |
Item ID: 005A
Unused key item. Appears to be a poster of Mario. The graphic is used as a reference image of Mario by the Shadow Sirens in Chapter 2.
Poisoned Cake
Poisoned Cake |
譎らおいしそうだけど どうして こんなところに ケーキがあるの? |
This is a dubious but delicious-looking cake. But why is it at a place like this?
Item ID: 0042
This cake can be found at the Glitz Pit, but it can't be placed in the player's inventory as it's automatically eaten. Judging by its placement in the item table, it was intended to be a key item.
Red Paper
Invalid Item |
Invalid Item |
Item ID: 0053
Like the blue paper, but it's not blue, obviously.
Star Stone
星の石 |
Star Stone
『星の石』で ございます メッセージは かりで ございます |
This is the "Star Stone". Temporary message.
(Note: This message uses "de gozaimasu", a more polite form of "desu" (it is / this is).
Item ID: 0069
Placeholder item for the Crystal Stars (called Star Stones in the Japanese version). This uses the same image as the Star Key. This is the only item with an untranslated inventory name.
Ultra Stone
Ultra Stone |
A stone that helps raise your partners to the highest rank. |
Item ID: 0058
This item is automatically taken by Merlon and never appears in Mario's inventory.
Unused Items
A variety of unused item descriptions are in the game. Use the following Gecko code to place the given item in the first inventory. The code also checks to see if the item ID is valid.
#Set First Standard Item C0000000 00000007 9421FFF0 BFA10008 83EDxxxx 2C1F0000 41820018 3BC000zz 3BBEFF82 281D006D 41810008 B3DF0192 BBA10008 38210010 4E800020 00000000 xxxx = 1BE0 (US), 1680 (JP), 1CC0 (EU) zz = Item Id (Decimal values 126 - 235)(Hex values 7E - EB)
Cake
Cake |
いわゆる 『ケーキ』 いわゆる うまい |
It's what's called "cake". It's what's called delicious.
Item ID: 00A0
Selling Price: 5 Coins
This cake can be found at the Glitz Pit, but it's not placed in the player's inventory as it's automatically eaten. However, if hacked into the inventory, it does have a use! It will restore 10 HP and can be used in and out of battle.
Koopa Curse
Koopa Curse |
『カメののろい』だよん |
It's the "Turtle Curse!"
Item ID: 00B2
Selling Price: 5 Coins
This is functionally complete, though its image in the menu and in battle is the default Zap Tap image.
Which is odd, since there is an appropriate image in the game.
Using this item in battle will give one enemy the "Slow" status effect, forcing it to rest every other turn. This lasts for 3 turns and does not stack.
Trade Off
Trade Off |
Earns more Star Points than usual after battles. |
Item ID: 0091
Selling Price: 5 Coins
An interesting item that was very close to being completed, but was ultimately discarded. It even had its description translated! Unlike the Koopa Curse, it uses the appropriate image in all menus and in battle.
Using it in battle will cause all enemies to "Rank Up!", which raises their hidden Level values (which determines Star Points earned when the enemy is defeated) by 5. While the "Rank Up!" message (and the item's name) implies that the enemies would get tougher, the enemies' attack and defense stats do not change.
Other Unused Item Images
Items that weren't coded at all.
An unused coconut recipe involving a spoon or something.
Some sort of rod with a fire flower at the head. Probable combat item.
A pillow. It could have been an early version of the blanket that you need to get for the Excess Express' conductor.
