Persona 5/Unused Cutscenes
| To do: there are more cutscenes, but are in Japanese sadly. |
| ...But what does it mean? This game has text or audio that needs to be translated. If you are fluent with this language, please read our translation guidelines and then submit a translation! Notes: The text in e100_004, e118_002, e126_001, e152_201, and e189_099. |
Even with the large amount of cutscenes in the game, some of them never play in-game.
Contents
Story
Prologue
e100_003
A cutscene intended for the beginning of the game where Joker runs from the Police in Niijima's Palace, which implies there would have been an additional section of gameplay after the cutscene where Joker smashes through the window. The text for the cutscene was never translated, although the dialogue was dubbed.
e100_004
Another cutscene intended for the beginning of the game, featuring Joker firing his gun into the air to attract the police. Joker is floating in the air for some reason. Untranslated subtitles for dialogue appear on screen, but other than the sound of police sirens, there are no other sound effects or voice clips.
e104_002
A brief scene of the protagonist walking out of the subway in an unused Yongen-Jaya location. The cutscene seems unfinished due to seeing the boundary and the protagonist floating above supposed stairs.
Kamoshida Arc
e118_002
A cutscene taking place during the protagonist and Ryuji's first escape from Kamoshida's palace. The students overheard something fell and it was a vent cover (They escaped via ventilation shaft in the metaverse). Kamoshida dismisses everyone and takes a look and then notices an out-of-place school bag next to the vent.
e119_002
An unused scene of the protagonist and Ryuji first escaping Kamoshida's palace. The scene is unfinished due to no sound and them spawning in the middle of the field's geometry after their escape.
e125_001
A cutscene with no dialogue of the protagonist entering LeBlanc as Sae is leaving. The protagonist does work and Sojiro gets a call and leaves, then he closes up shop.
e126_001
A brief, untranslated cutscene of Principal Kobayakawa and Kamoshida talking to each other in the faculty room. Kamoshida's lack of a walking animation at the end of the cutscene is odd, as he does have a walking animation, and seems to imply the cutscene wasn't finished before it was scrapped.
e129_201
Morgana Isn't this place your school? Doesn't any of this look familiar to you? Ryuji You mean in this castle? Hell no. Morgana Then, let's go somewhere that'll be easier to tell. It'd be troublesome if you two get exhausted along the way too.
This cutscene has no visuals. Ryuji doesn't recognized the school from inside the palace, so Morgana will take him and the protagonist to somewhere easier to tell. In game, the last line goes out of the text box.
e129_401
Morgana What happened earlier...? Ryuji You mean that business about the new Persona? Let's just say he's "special" and leave it at that. C'mon, let's go.
This cutscene has no visuals. This would happen after Joker first gets an additional persona. This scene is voiced, although the lines are different.
e141_101
Sojiro asking the protagonist about group dating.
e152_201
The protagonist, Ryuji, and Morgana getting stuff needed to infiltrate Kamoshida's palace, as the cat comments on Ryuji knowing about Iwai's airsoft shop. They now need health items and Morgana asked who's gonna take him in so they can say in contact. Unbeknownst to them, Ann is spying on them. Text not translated but dialogue is dubbed.
Madarame Arc
e154_001
A cutscene with no dialogue of the protagonist getting ready for work in LeBlanc. Sae enters the cafe and he finishes.
e160_101
A cutscene of Sojiro telling the protagonist of part-time jobs and where to look for them. In-game, Ryuji and Ann tell you about them instead.
e179_001
An early scene of Makoto meeting up with the principal. The scene plays out just like in the final, except it's in the school faculty room.
e188_901
An unfinished cutscene at the school. Camera is out of bounds.
e189_099
An alternate version of the start of Mishima's confidant. The scene uses a different flash-forward transition and Igor is there explaining that the protagonist had made a new contract and use that bond he made to gather the voices of those who yearn for help. This scene has no music or voice clips.
e193_106
The protagonist, Ann, Ryuji, and Morgana start heading to Madarame's house and need to take the train first.
e217_011
The SIU director contacting someone about the Phantom Thieves and their methods, which he connected that they must've used the Metaverse.
Kaneshiro Arc
e251_001
Unused scene of Makoto getting captured and first meeting Kaneshiro. His dialogue says "Ooh, I like the young ones.", but his voiced line is "Hehe, typical of the young ones."
Futaba Arc
e280_101
The protagonist chats with the group what happened so far: Futaba exists and Sojiro is getting threatened to have his custody rescinded. A scene with the same subject happens the next day and in person is used instead in the final product.
e288_001
A cutscene with no dialogue of the protagonist working in LeBlanc. He and Sojiro converse over coffee.
e290_101
Ryuji Seriously...? We're gonna climb this...? Yusuke To think we'd go through this much trouble just to get into her Palace... Morgana What're you doing? Hurry up, or I'll go on by myself.
This cutscene has no visuals. Seems like the group were going to climb on something, likely Futaba's pyramid, to reach her Palace. In game, Yusuke's line goes out of the text box.
e290_201
Ann We've come up quite far, but is there still more to go? Ryuji How should I know? Yusuke So, about what we were talking about earlier... Ryuji We're goin' back to that complicated stuff again...? Makoto Do you mean about why her Palace is a pyramid? Yusuke Right, the reviving the dead part is still on my mind... Makoto I don't really know too much about it... But supposedly in ancient Egypt, it was believed that one's soul is eternal and the dead would come back to life. Yusuke Ah, right. Mummies are related to the belief of resurrection. This place is supposed to be based on "Futaba's desires," correct? Morgana That's right. It's a world where her distorted desires have materialized. Ryuji She wants us to steal her heart, right? Morgana That's a request. It's different from desires. Ryuji Then, think of it that she wants to be buried in a grave. Just leave it at that. Yusuke But then, that doesn't explain why it's a pyramid. Ryuji Man, you're so particular... Who cares as long as we find her Treasure inside? How much longer are you gonna make us wait? We're gonna turn into mummies! Makoto True, it'd be a waste of time to discuss things we can't reach a conclusion on. We may figure something out up ahead, so let's keep moving on for now.
This cutscene has no visuals. The group wonders why Futaba's Palace is a tomb. In game, most of the lines go out of the text box.
e292_101
Ann Look up! Ryuji What the shit!? Yusuke Run! Ann Why's this boulder coming for us all of a sudden!? Ryuji How should I know!? Mona, do something! Morgana There's nothing I CAN do! Yusuke Just be quiet and run if you wish to survive! Ann Ugh, no more! Makoto That was close... Yusuke Hm? Ryuji You've gotta be kidding meeeeeee!
This cutscene has no visuals. The group is chased by a boulder.
Okumura Arc
e311_003
A scene of Morgana in his nightmare version of Mementos...just standing there.
e319_013
A scene of Mishima thinking about trying out the local foods in Hawaii.
e320_002
Unused cutscene taking place in Hawaii of the group visiting the Kamehameha statue, realizing in the end, it was pointless.
Three English-dubbed lines don't match up the text: When Ryuji supposed to say "I ain't interested in that!", he says "Forget that!", Ann's "Did you get all those pamphlets for nothing!? You should've looked more before you recommended a place!", instead of saying, "What were all those pamphlets for!? Do some research before you recommend a place!", and Futaba saying "Signing off!" instead of "Welp, that was a waste of time. I'm gonna make like a tree and get the heck outta here."
e329_002
A scene taking place after the first visit of Okumura's place. The group exit out, exhausted, unknowingly being filmed by Akechi. This scene actually explains the pictures he shown to the thieves later on in the school festival. Although text is translated, his dialogue is in Japanese.
e333_101
An unknown scene of the protagonist checking his phone because of a message from the group chat, although nothing is displayed.
e333_201
An early version of the chat when Ann noticed that someone's been doing the Phan-site requests. This one just has the protagonist, Ann, and Yusuke conversing instead of the whole group in the final, and the chat is its own cutscene instead of being a in game happening.
e341_501
A scene of Futaba at her workspace planning something about Okumura.
e342_301
Unused scene of the protagonist waiting on the tram, then gets a chat message from the group with Haru saying her father reported the calling card to the police. In the final, Haru told the group directly.
Nijima Arc
e358_001
Unused cutscene of Makoto worried for her sister and Ann reporting to her that the mental shutdown cases have spiked. Besides Makoto not sitting correctly, the chatlog speeds through too fast to read. It reads:
Ann Are we going to get blamed for this too? Makoto Let's make sure that doesn't happen. Makoto Having said that... we should be careful. Makoto The police won't stay silent about all this criminal activity. Ann Yeah, you're right. Ann Well, sorry to bring this up so late. Good night.
e390_101
This cutscene is located alongside the ones for the protagonist's arrest after Niijima's Palace, and features two policemen expressing confusion at the Metaverse.
e393_014
A scene of the protagonist and Morgana first listening to Akechi's wiretapped call. The group chat then messages them that the plan to catch the mastermind is set, though some express worry for the protagonist if the plan fails; Makoto assures that he can do it. Takes place during the explanation of their plan after being brought back to LeBlanc at November 20th. Although the text says "is the execution," the voiced line says "is to see it through."
Shido Arc
e403_001
Unused scene of the Prime Minister and his aides terrified of Shido's rise in popularity/favorability.
Yaldabaoth Arc
e445_002
A cut scene of the group opting out of changing the public's heart in favor of staying as the Phantom Thieves. It seems like there was a choice between this and the final's opt in, judging by Ryuji's line, "...You know what? [NAME]'s right. This is where I belong... I wanna continue bein' part of the Phantom Thieves!"
e453_001
An unused game over cutscene. Two policemen walk into LeBlanc and announce that the protagonist has been chosen by God before subsequently arresting him. This was likely intended to be used if the final Palace wasn't completed on time. However, the player is forced to complete the final Palace within a day, leaving no way to fail the deadline.
e467_001
A scene of the Phantom Thieves telling off the Holy Grail, but then the Grail sinisterly laughs.
Ending
e474_104
Sojiro and Futaba say their goodbyes. Plays out like the used 474_103, but it's in japanese, they don't mention Morgana, has the unused third choice "That's worrisome..." (answer not dubbed), and Futaba says that it's the protagonist's last day in "that storage room."
