Police Quest: Open Season is the fourth game in the series, this time headed by by retired Police Chief and father of SWAT Daryl F. Gates. Detective John Carey has replaced Detective Sonny Bonds, and it takes place in Los Angeles rather than Lytton. It's also a much grittier game, featuring murder and graphic death scenes.

SVGA Version
When Open Season came to CD, with it came the option for SVGA 640×480 graphics, making it one of the first Sierra games with such a feature. The result is that some illustrated item graphics are replaced with digitized photos, while most of the environment is awkwardly upscaled by the engine.
