This page details one or more prototype versions of A Bug's Life (PlayStation).

A pre-release demo of A Bug's Life with only the Anthill as a playable level. This demo is included on the following discs:

  • PlayStation Interactive CD Sampler Volume 9
  • Official US PlayStation Magazine Demo Disc 15
  • Disc 2 of PlayStation Underground Volume 2.4

General Differences

  • A watermark for Traveller's Tales is at the bottom-left of the screen.
  • The level music is stored as CD-DA Redbook format as opposed to the XA format in the final version.
  • Flik does not have any dialogue.
  • The sound effects are either at a higher pitch than in the final version or are completely different.
  • The harvester doesn't permanently kill enemies or add to the gold berry count.
  • The three-leaf plant has a flower bud at the top.

  • The HUD graphic for the gold berry is different. It also only gives the number of remaining enemies, instead of the number killed out of the level total:

Level Differences

  • The ledge with the gold berry pickup can be walked onto, instead of requiring platforming with the seeds.

  • Fencing, vines and other assets are missing.

  • There are fewer enemies.
  • Several tokens, seeds, and other pickups are in different places.

Oddities

While pausing the game during a telescope viewpoint, the pause menu's graphics become corrupted.
