The Trial Version demo of Gran Turismo is a much later demo compared to the Test Drive demo, which is a lot closer to the final build. According to the game's files, this demo showcases a build of the game from October 27, 1997, two months before the final release. So there are still some differences worth noting.

Playable Content

This demo allows the player to drive the Honda NSX (1997 3.2 model) on High Speed Ring with a time limit of 90 seconds. This 90-second time limit also applies if a race in GT Mode is forcibly played.

The Gran Turismo Mode allows limited access to My Home, the Toyota dealership, Go Race, and Machine Test.

General Differences

  • Arcade Mode had a different background picture.
  • In the Used Car dealerships in Gran Turismo mode, there are buttons at the top of a car's page which say "Back" and "Next". They are meant to be buttons taking you to other cars. Unfortunately, they don't work, as clicking on them simply boots you back to the showroom.
  • The iconic "3, 2, 1, Start!" countdown sounds were different.
  • All GT Mode menus were brighter; it was toned down in the final build.
  • Demo replays play if you sit too long in the Arcade Mode menus, in addition to the title screen.
  • The Subaru Impreza name mix-up bug is worse in this demo, as all the affected Imprezas suffer from this on their road-going models, as well as within in-game menus such as used car listings.
  • The in-game money is set at 0, to prevent the player from buying anything.
  • It is possible to perform a racing modification without buying Weight Reductions, assuming the player is able to access the GT Mode menus in the first place. While the player is required to buy all Weight Reductions in the Japanese version, this behavior was reverted in the international versions.
  • Car Washes can be done even if the car is not yet dirty enough to be washed; if the player does this under this condition, no money will be deducted.

Cars

  • Several cars had removed colors.
  • The standard Honda NSX took place of the NSX Type S Zero in Arcade Mode.
  • Similarly, the standard Nissan Skyline GT-R R33 was present instead of the V-Spec.
  • On the contrary, the Eunos Roadster V-Special was present instead of the normal one.
  • The Eunos Cosmo Type E's second RM color scheme was green instead of turquoise, and had different rims.
  • The Mazda Savanna RX-7 RM had a third color option, which was black.
  • Possibly as placeholders, the racing mods for the Camaro 30th Anniversary Edition and Corvette Grand Sport '96 were silver versions.
  • The Dodge Concept Car was originally referred to as the Copperhead. However, this was changed by Dodge themselves in real life due to copyright issues. It also had a racing mod originally, which somewhat resembles the Concept Car LM Edition from GT2.
  • The GT1 version of the Concept Car LM Edition also looked similar to its GT2 version, but with two different colors, yellow and black.
  • All EK Honda Civics had 5 RM color schemes, and cut Primo sponsors. The cut color schemes were pink, light blue, and green.
  • Another cut special Honda was the NSX-R GT. It resembles the NSX Type S and Type S Zero RMs from the final game.
  • The Mitsubishi GTO '92 RM had RalliArt logos on the side, and an extra third color scheme that was silver.
  • The GTO Twin Turbo '92 RM shared its purple color scheme from the standard GTO '92, before being changed to a lighter purple. It also had an extra silver color scheme.
  • The Mitsubishi GTO MR '95's RM looked similar to the version seen on the Test Drive disc, but was changed to look like the other GTO RMs in the final game. It also had a cut silver color.
  • The Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo '95 RM also looked similar to its counterpart on the Test Drive disc, but also had a cut silver color, and different rims compared to the GTO MR.
  • The rest of the Mitsubishi GTO RMs had different rear spoilers, and five color schemes were planned for each: red, blue, green, yellow, and silver. The color schemes that were cut depends on which model of GTO it was.
  • The RM of the Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg R originally had the second color scheme as beige and red, but was changed to white and blue.
  • The Subaru Impreza WRX STi Type R's RM appeared to be in an unfinished state, as it was missing logos from the side, and still has placeholder rims.
  • The racing mods of the Toyota MR2 had TRD logos rather than MR2 logos. The G-Limited also had a maroon color, which was changed.

Opening Movie

This version features an unused opening movie.
