Similarities to Assets prerelease
Kirby
The hat models and textures for Fire, Fighter, Plasma, and Sword Kirby's trophies in Super Smash Bros. Brawl closely match those seen in footage from the scrapped Kirby for Nintendo GameCube, which later led to the development of Kirby's Return to Dream Land, although the flame effects for Fire Kirby are noticeably different.
Tornado and Fire's textures aren't compatible with the models from Kirby's Return to Dream Land at all, although, some of Tornado's hat textures from SSBB are both reused from Kirby Air Ride although the crown texture is modified. Fire’s textures on the other hand are not only different from the ones used in KRtDL, but they’re also different from the ones used in Kirby Air Ride.
All of the abilities that appear in Super Smash Bros. Brawl except for Cook, since that's Kirby's Final Smash in that game, have at least 1 hat texture with the prefix "HrKirby" in their filenames, implying that those may be leftovers from Kirby for Nintendo GameCube.
Base
Beam
Super Smash Bros. Brawl | Kirby's Return to Dream Land (unused) |
---|---|
Curiously, a downscaled version of the hat texture on the Beam Kirby trophy can actually be found unused in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, specifically within the files for the Flare Beam Super Ability! It is unknown whether it too was originally used while the game was in development on the GameCube, or if it was simply a placeholder.
Early/Super Smash Bros. Brawl | Final |
---|---|
This unused texture found in Flare Beam and Beam's files is also the exact one used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Beam Kirby's stick textures and filenames in Super Smash Bros. Brawl are also the same ones used in Kirby's Return to Dream Land, although in the CMPR format instead of the RGB565 one.
Wing
Same goes with this texture for Wing Kirby's hat, which is also named HrKirbyWing3 in both of those games. This texture is also reused from Kirby Air Ride.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl | Kirby's Return to Dream Land |
---|---|
This texture of the hat for Wing Kirby's hat in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and in Return to Dream Land are also similar, although with some differences. Both textures are named HrKirbyWingHat.
Sleep
Super Smash Bros. Brawl | Kirby's Return to Dream Land |
---|---|
Both Sleep Kirby's hat textures for Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Kirby's Return to Dream Land can also be applied to their hat models, although the one used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is higher poly than in Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The texture used in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is named HrKirbySleepHat while the texture used in Return to Dreamland is named KbSleepHat.
Fighter
Super Smash Bros. Brawl | Kirby's Return to Dream Land |
---|---|
This also applies to Fighter Kirby's hat, although if the textures from Return to Dreamland are applied to the model from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the star on the texture from Return to Dreamland will be stretched. However, if it's the other way around, it can be applied just okay. Both of the textures are named HrKirbyFighterHat.
Ice
The textures of the hat for Ice Kirby's hat in Super Smash Bros. Brawl (top) and in Return to Dream Land (bottom) are also similar, although with some differences.
Bomb and Sword
Sword (SSBB) | Bomb (KRTDL, Unused) |
---|---|
The unused texture for Bomb Kirby's hat in Kirby's Return to Dream Land can also be applied to the hat model for Sword Kirby's trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl almost perfectly. The filename for Sword Kirby's hat in SSBB is named HrKirbySwordHat while the filename Bomb Kirby's unused hat texture in KRtDL is named KbBombHat.
Spark Kirby's gem texture used in Kirby's Return to Dream Land is also reused from Kirby Air Ride and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. It is named HrKirbyPlasma3 in SSBB, while in KRtDL, it is named KbSparkHat2
Needle
The textures of the hat for Needle Kirby's hat in Kirby Air Ride/Super Smash Bros. Brawl (top) and in Kirby's Return to Dream Land (bottom) are also similar, although with some major differences.
Enemies
Gordo
GordoBody (SSBB) | ChGordoBody00 (KRTDL, Unused) |
---|---|
The enemy Gordo's unused textures from KRtDL are similar to his textures from SSBB and can also be applied to his model from SSBB just okay.
Walky
ChWalkyBody (SSBB) | EmWalkyBody (KRTDL) |
---|---|
Same goes with Walky's model, although it will look a bit unusual.
Scarfy
Kirby's Return to Dream Land | Kirby Air Ride |
---|---|
"Bs" Prefix
Both Dyna Blade and Kracko's trophies in Super Smash Bros. Brawl also have the same prefix (Bs) for some of their textures (Dyna Blade's is BsDynablade and Kracko's is BsKracko) as some of HR-D3/Dedede Robo and Giant Flotzo's, for Kirby's Return to Dream Land, (BsDederobo for HR-D3, although HR-D3 does have one texture labeled with HRD3 for it instead and BsGhostShip for Giant Flotzo respectively).
Notes
Ability HUD icon IDs
This is all of the IDs for the ability HUD icons, note that the Landia ability doesn't have an ID assigned for it.
- Notice how IDs 8-10 are skipped. The skipped IDs are reasonably assumed to have been the scrapped super variant of the Spark ability as the HUD icon for it got overwritten by Ultra Sword's, as well as the possible scrapped super variants of Stone and Water, both of which on the other hand, if they existed, appear to have straight up been removed rather than overwritten, leaving only its possible evidence in texture filenames.
