Adding Content From Other Sites

If you're going to lift information and images from another site, at least reword things, credit the site as a source, and upload the highest resolution version of each image. -Ehm (talk) 11:44, 9 March 2017 (EST)

How can I get a higher resolution of the pictures if no high resolution for the pictures are available? Mr. Kite (talk) 13:36, 9 March 2017 (EST)
You uploaded 300x166 versions of 796x440 images. Please refer to the links in my previous message. -Ehm (talk) 13:38, 9 March 2017 (EST)

Images

For screenshots, please don't take JPEGs, especially JPEGs from other sites. Take clean PNG screenshots instead. Also, no need to continuously change World and International to international. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 16:37, 9 March 2017 (EST)

What`s the difference between JPEG and PNG? Does PNG give a higher resolution? Mr. Kite (talk) 09:35, 11 March 2017 (EST)
PNGs have lossless compression, JPEGs usually don't and have compression artifacts around the images. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 16:16, 11 March 2017 (EST)
Is it possible to change a JPEG picture to PNG just by changing .JPEG to .PNG at the end of a picture name? Mr. Kite (talk) 11:54, 13 March 2017 (EDT)
All that does is retain the artifacts from the JPEG. Not only that but JPEGs tend to not have the best quality. Also, please make sure the images are of the correct resolution. --From: divingkataetheweirdo (talk) 18:23, 13 March 2017 (EDT)

Contra

Hey. Just wanted to say thanks for linking to my Contra Encyclopedia fan site and showing some interest in the pre-releases of the games. It's good to know it has some readers every now and then; I've especially been hoping there would be more interest in documenting the prototypes as I certainly have not found everything.Emjeeman (talk) 22:53, 24 June 2017 (EDT)

Yeah, no problem. Are you a regular contributor to this site? Mr. Kite (talk) 05:57, 25 June 2017 (EDT)

Not really. I have contributed a few things here and there, but mostly am a visitor. I just check back on certain pages, like the Contra ones, every now and then in hopes of there being more interest towards analyzing those games.Emjeeman (talk) 08:54, 25 June 2017 (EDT)

Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition

Hey, do you think you could make an article for Puzzle & Dragons: Super Mario Bros. Edition that lists all of the text differences between the US and European versions?

The translation differences can already be found on the Super Mario Wiki, so it shouldn't be too hard to make (though you will need to credit the Super Mario Wiki). ShootingStar7X (talk) 16:32, 12 January 2018 (EST)

Well, there's no page yet for the game, and I'm kinda busy with doing the other ones like Advanced Wars and Ape Escape games, but I will get to it eventually. Thank you for the link. Mr. Kite (talk) 21:38, 13 January 2018 (EST)

Hi

Is there somewhere like IRC or Discord that I can get in contact with you? Mainly just for coordination with work. I was checking out Minish Cap a bit and it would be easier to team up for comparisons than one person to handle everything I feel. PPLToast (talk) 08:15, 7 August 2018 (EDT)

I don't really have an IRC or Discord that I use but I can contact with you either facebook or twitter Mr. Kite (talk) 19:58, 9 August 2018 (EDT)

Contra III

Hello I was curious why you changed the To Do link on the Contra III page from my site's, for the prototypes? Not trying to knock on other sources, but I cover all known prototypes for the game (3 of them for the SNES version); also, my article on the prototype you alternatively linked covers more of the differences.

Oh, sorry. I'll undo what I edited for that page. Mr. Kite (talk) 16:56, 17 December 2018 (EST)

Too many edits in quick succession

From the rules and guidelines: "When working on a page, instead of committing multiple small edits in a row, please use the Show preview button at the bottom of the wikitext box to preview your changes. When you're satisfied with how everything looks, press the Save page button. To make site administration easier, we have a bot in our IRC channel that reports every page edit in real-time, and "spamming" page edits on the wiki only serves to disrupt conversation and annoy other users in the channel (and clogs the recent changes log to boot)." ReyVGM (talk) 04:42, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

What if I make a bunch of edits on my user page in quick succession? Is that okay? Mr. Kite (talk) 04:53, 2 December 2020 (UTC)
Use the Preview button, that's what it's there for ;) ReyVGM (talk) 05:00, 2 December 2020 (UTC)

This isn't really an issue so much anymore, as the wiki changes bot isn't in the irc channel any longer. --Hiccup (talk) 20:10, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
It's on discord now. ReyVGM (talk) 21:04, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
Yeah that was my point - it has its own channel and can be muted :P --Hiccup (talk) 21:48, 10 December 2020 (UTC)
True, but as long as the guidelines say not to make too many edits in quick succession, then... :P ReyVGM (talk) 22:34, 10 December 2020 (UTC)

Paper Mario TTYD regional differences

Somebody has told me that some of your recent Paper Mario TTYD region differences page changes have been incorrect. They are going to give me details later, but for now I'm just going to suggest you make sure to check in-game in each version, if you aren't already doing that. --Hiccup (talk) 22:23, 5 January 2021 (UTC)

Okay, here is what he (Zephiles) said:
[...]
while reviewing all of their changes at once:
https://tcrf.net/index.php?title=Paper_Mario%3A_The_Thousand-Year_Door%2FRegional_Differences&type=revision&diff=872344&oldid=862997
these are the only ones that are correct:
*In the Japanese version, when unlocking the blue cage door in the Great Tree, the game checks for and removes the Strange Sack from your inventory if you have it (which will permanently prevent it from being obtained again as there is only one in the game). This doesn't happen in the international versions. Also in the Japanese version, after unlocking the blue cage door, there are several frames where you are able to move around freely.

*In the outside room at Riverside Station with the Poison Pokeys and Ruff Puffs, there is a block that can be jumped on to hit a hidden block that contains a Thunder Rage. In the Japanese version, this block is a breakable block, and breaking it will cause it to stay broken until you leave Riverside Station.

*The Japanese version is missing the number of obtained badges/recipes and total badges/recipes on the Badges and Recipes screen.

Another one of Zess T.'s Recipes, the Koopa Bun, recovers only 15 FP in the international versions rather than 20 FP in the Japanese version.
the first 3 were added, while the last one was deleted
the last one might have been refering to a different item, but i dont remember which item it was
im gonna try to gather some videos to prove that their other changes are wrong

alright, so im using the 100% WR video for part of this
For JP shopkeepers not thanking you after buying stuff, you can review this part of the video where he's buying stuff in Prologue:
https://youtu.be/XgqU1m9INRM?t=371

For being able to charge Spring Jumps in the air in JP, you can review this part of the video that's immediately after the Ultra Boots tutorial:
https://youtu.be/XgqU1m9INRM?t=13014
You can also review this part of the video, which is in the Sanctum when going to get the Crystal Star:
https://youtu.be/XgqU1m9INRM?t=15018

For the Spin Jumps, I needed multiple examples. The first one is showing that Spin Jumps do in fact do more damage than regular jumps, as one of the changes says this:
In the Japanese version, the Spin Jump attack does not do more damage than a regular jump. It just does the same amount of damage as a regular jump.
Proof against this can be seen at this part of the video, where Spin Jumps are used against Magnus:
https://youtu.be/XgqU1m9INRM?t=5033
The last incorrect change was this being removed, specifically the part about the action command damage:
In the Japanese version, failing an Action Command causes significantly less damage to be dealt compared to the international versions. In addition, there is no second stylish after a normal jump in the Japanese version
I have prepared some videos that prove that the damage works this way. The first 2 videos are of failing the 2nd part of a Spin Jump in JP and US respectively. The last 2 videos are succeeding in both respectively. All 4 videos use the exact same setup/inventory/equipped badges/etc. You can clearly see that failing the action command does less damage in JP:

i believe all of this is more than enough to prove their changes incorrect
[...]
I forgot to point out that the stick spins thing with the value being set to 0 is true as well, so their change for that also needs to be undone
I'm not sure if I can make a video for that though
--Hiccup (talk) 17:22, 6 January 2021 (UTC)
Okay so to clarify:
  • The Spin Jump attack doesn't do extra damage in the Japanese version unless you use Power Punch. I tried using Spin Jump attack in JP without Power Punch (while timing the attack successfully) and it just did the same damage as a regular jump done successfully.
  • About the Koopa Bun: In the Recipe Menu list, the JP version incorrectly states that it restores 20 FP when in fact it restores 15 FP in all versions. All of Zess T.'s recipes have the same effect in all versions, but some of them have incorrect descriptions depending on the language.

But anyways, I will revert the changes I got wrong. Thank you for showing video proof of these. Mr. Kite (talk) 01:46, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Zephile's response:
>The Spin Jump attack doesn't do extra damage in the Japanese version unless you use Power Punch. I tried
>using Spin Jump attack in JP without Power Punch (while timing the attack successfully) and it just did the
>same damage as a regular jump done successfully.
Power Punch doesn't change how it works; the 4 videos that I made very clearly show that doing the action commands
properly does the proper damage in JP, and none of the videos use any boosting items/badges

>About the Koopa Bun: In the Recipe Menu list, the JP version incorrectly states that it restores 20 FP when in
>fact it restores 15 FP in all versions. All of Zess T.'s recipes have the same effect in all versions, but some of

This one I overlooked the specification of the recipe page: It says 20 on the recipe page, but 15 for the actual item

i suppose all of the recipe descriptions need to be rechecked
a while ago I put up a 100% save for JP onto GameFAQs, so that could be used to check the JP recipe descriptions. I dont
have time to review all of them right now
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/gamecube/920182-paper-mario-the-thousand-year-door/saves/24632
Oh also, this description needs to be reworded, as it obviously doesnt apply to every single action command
>In the Japanese version, failing an Action Command causes significantly less damage to be dealt compared to
>the international versions.
i havent tested every action command, but i know it doesnt apply to all of them

i would also image the recipe descriptions need to be checked on US and EU as well, but i dont have 100% saves for those handy

In-line CSS

I'm concerned you've just made bulk changes adding inline CSS to pages when it would be better to add it to the main CSS file? --Matt (talk) 23:10, 9 July 2021 (UTC)

Pre boxes

Please be careful what you replace when making <pre> boxes scrollable -- particularly with copied text files. Don't remove the font styling or remove spacing from the beginning or end of the files. --Rabidabid (talk) 22:10, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

Ok. Sorry about that. --Mr. Kite (talk) 22:44, 13 July 2021 (UTC)

"Uncensored prototype" of RE Remake?

What is this? I can't find any info. --PPLToast (talk) 12:31, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Minor edits

Hello! Appreciate you taking time and mass editing pages, even if it's most likely automated, but for the edits like fixing typos can you please mark them as "this is a minor edit" so that users don't get emails for a single character change on pages in their watchlists? Thanks! --Bekoha (talk) 06:53, 12 November 2023 (UTC)

Spelling Corrections

I appreciate that you're correcting spelling mistakes, but can you please watch what you're correcting? So far, I've seen three edits show up on my watch list alone that had to be instantly reverted because they corrected text that was in the original data. --Trussive (talk) 23:19, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

About typos in page titles

If you find an error in a page title, the preferred thing to do is to move it to the correct name, rather than blanking it and making a new page with the new name (as you did for the Starship Titanic subpage recently), because the latter approach effectively removes the history of previous edits. (Also, if you're going to blank a page anyway, at least add a {{delete}} template so it doesn't wind up on the "Uncategorized pages" report, please?) --Zyxyz (talk) 13:25, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
